Angels | Yunel Escobar settling into leadoff role

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 16:14:14 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar has a .281/.347/.449 slash line with 10 runs, six doubles, three home runs, seven RBI and eight walks through 98 plate appearances to start the season.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar is a low-end option in deep mixed leagues, but he has upside to score plenty of runs leading off for the Angels, and he is capable of flirting with a .300 batting average. He hit .314 in 2015, after all.

Angels | Yunel Escobar hasn't struck out

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 10:34:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar has just five walks and no strikeouts in 47 spring at-bats. He's hitting .468 (22-for-47) with no home runs and four RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar peaked in 2015 thanks to an inflated hit rate with the Washington Nationals. He's now in a weaker lineup and a more pitcher-friendly environment. Don't let his high spring average fool you again. Escobar is, at best, corner infield insurance in cavernous mixed and AL leagues.

Angels | Yunel Escobar scratched

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 13:41:18 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar (eye) did not play Tuesday, March 22, due to left eye irritation.

Fantasy Tip: The odds are this injury isn't serious, so Escobar should be back for the next game. He's having an excellent spring and is making a strong case for being your backup 3B on fantasy rosters.

Angels | Yunel Escobar having fine spring

Fri, 18 Mar 2016 14:36:42 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar went 3-for-3 Friday, March 18, to improve to 12-for-30 (.433 batting average) this spring.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar's ownership should be limited to deep mixed and AL-only leagues, but he did have a solid season in 2015 and has no competition for at-bats this year. Escobar scored 75 runs, drove in 56 and hit .314 for decent three-category coverage. There is no power-speed upside here, though. His strong spring is encour

Angels | Yunel Escobar to lead off

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 09:34:23 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar is pretty much squared away as the leadoff hitter, according to manager Mike Scioscia. OF Kole Calhoun will hit second or fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Calhoun will benefit from hitting in either spot and is a high-end OF3. Escobar is a fringe MI grab in mixed leagues.

Angels | Yunel Escobar dealt to the Angels

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 12:46:57 -0800

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired INF Yunel Escobar from the Washington Nationals in exchange for RP Trevor Gott Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar had a bounce-back season in 2015 and posted an impressive .314 batting average. However, his counting stats don't have the same fantasy impact. Escobar scored 75 runs, hit nine home runs and drove in 56 RBI. It is modest production for a low-end middle infielder, and Escobar will have multiple eligibility across a few infield positions for the 2016 season.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar could be trade bait

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 10:08:08 -0800

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar could be a trade option this offseason after hitting .314 with a .790 OPS last year. The Nationals already have 2B Danny Espinosa, SS Trea Turner and 2B Wilmer Difo. Escobar is under contract for $7 million in 2016 with a $7 million team option for 2017. 3B Anthony Rendon will be entrenched at third base.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar had a career year in 2015, thanks largely in part to Rendon's early season injury giving him a shot to hold down the starting third base job. Even if Escobar remains in Washington, he's unlikely to see the kind of playing time that made him valuable in the majority of fantasy leagues. Expect some regression in 2016, so don't pay for his 2015 peak.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 11:05:09 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jacob de Grom Sunday, Oct. 4. INF Anthony Rendon will bat leadoff and play third base, while INF Trea Turner will bat second and play second base.

Fantasy Tip: Rendon ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is just 3-for-22 over the past week and should not be used in FantasyScore this afternoon. Turner ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief at this point.

Nationals | Bryce Harper rests

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 15:32:45 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 3, with 3B Yunel Escobar hitting third.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is 0-for-9 the last week and faces Matt Harvey, but he's having a comeback season. He's a low-end option worth consideration on FantasyScore.

Nationals | Still no Yunel Escobar vs. Atlanta

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 13:38:16 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar (back) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. SS Trea Turner draws into the lineup and is batting second against Atlanta Braves SP Ryan Weber Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been dealing with upper back spasms since Sunday, Sept. 27, and his status for the remaining games is in question, especially with nothing on the line for Washington. Turner ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is 8-for-19 in September, and he stands as an upside source of cap relief for FantasyScore players Thursday.
