Nationals | Yunel Escobar to miss a game or two

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 21:38:39 -0700

Washington Nationals SS Yunel Escobar (hand) suffered lacerations on his hand during the game Monday, April 27, against the Atlanta Braves. X-rays did not reveal any fractures, although he expects to miss at least a game or two.

Fantasy Tip: If Escobar misses time it is likely Danny Espinosa ($1,800; 3.6% of cap) slides over to third base, while Dan Uggla ($1,900; 3.8% of cap) picks up starts at second base. That was the setup for manager Matt Williams once Escobar departed Monday.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar injures groin

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 19:12:10 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B/SS Yunel Escobar (groin) suffered a groin injury Friday, April 17, and he will be re-evaluated Saturday, April 18, before deciding if a trip to the disabled list is necessary.

Fantasy Tip: If Escobar misses some time, Dan Uggla ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is likely to join the lineup. However, Uggla has been a mess at the plate the last couple of seasons and can't be trusted at FantasyScore until he proves otherwise.

Nationals | Dan Uggla in at second

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 08:48:34 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B Dan Uggla is in the opening day lineup Monday, April 6, at second base. 2B Yunel Escobar has shifted to third base.

Fantasy Tip: Uggla ($2,000, 4.0% of your cap) is 1-for-6 lifetime against Bartolo Colon, but he's a basement flyer worth taking on FantasyScore. His power potential could yield a big reward for the price.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar could play 3B

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 07:24:43 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B/SS Yunel Escobar volunteered to play third base with 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) injured.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar ($2,800, 5.6% of your cap) has some upside at his low FantasyScore price in good matchups.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman staying at 1B

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 07:23:53 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman will remain at first base with 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) injured. Zimmerman said he's more comfortable at first base than he was at third base the last two years. 2B/SS Yunel Escobar volunteered to play third.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman's ($5,100, 10.2% of your cap) move across the diamond should serve his body well and allow him to return to his .280-25-90 ways. At 10.2% of your cap, we need to see more signs he can do so before comfortably using him on FantasyScore.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar could play Monday

Sat, 21 Mar 2015 10:44:20 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B Yunel Escobar (oblique) is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut against the New York Yankees Monday, March 23, playing three innings. He was able to participate in all pregame activities Saturday, March 21, including taking batting practice and fielding grounders at second for the first time since March 5.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar experienced no pain during fielding practice and only had slight pain while hitting, although that is to be expected. He will serve as the Nats' starting second baseman this season and will have eligibility at both middle infield positions, giving him value as a reserve in NL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar has strained oblique

Sat, 07 Mar 2015 10:18:52 -0800

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 2B/SS Yunel Escobar (oblique) has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain of his left oblique. He will be shut down for seven to 10 days, although manager Matt Williams believes the injury is not serious enough to impact his status for Opening Day.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar is slated to be the Nats' starting second baseman this season. He should have some appeal in the later rounds of NL-only and deep mixed fantasy leagues because he will soon qualify at both middle infield positions, after primarily playing shortstop prior to this year.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar dealing with stiff back

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 12:19:46 -0800

Washington Nationals 2B Yunel Escobar (back) will be examined by a team doctor Friday, March 6, because he is experiencing back stiffness. "He's been working hard, extra stuff and taking all his BP and everything. We'll see what the doc says today. He's been a little delayed the last couple of days, but we'll get back today and see where he's at," manager Matt Williams said Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Williams doesn't sound overly concerned about the injury and attributes it to the extra work Escobar has been putting in to improve his craft at second base. Escobar has deep mixed league appeal, because he should quickly gain second-base status, but he doesn't boast significant upside. At best, he is a late-round flier. Still, hitting in an improved lineup should help his counting stats. Continue to check back for updates on his progress through the spring.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar scratched Thursday

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 13:21:30 -0800

Washington Nationals 2B Yunel Escobar was scratched due to "general soreness" Thursday, March 5. The soreness is related to the extra work he's been seeing at second base in camp.

Fantasy Tip: Having both shortstop and second base eligibility will be nice for Escobar's fantasy owners in 2015, but he's nothing more than a late-round flier in really deep mixed drafts. Escobar doesn't do anything particularly interesting in any fantasy baseball categories. He's more helpful in NL-only leagues because he should earn everyday playing time.

Nationals | Yunel Escobar to be starting 2B

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 13:06:51 -0800

Washington Nationals 2B Yunel Escobar will be the team's everyday second baseman after playing shortstop for most of his career.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar doesn't do anything particular well that stands out for fantasy baseball purposes, making him an unlikely candidate to be drafted in a normal 12-team mixed league. However, the move to a stronger offensive lineup with the Nats could make him an attractive streaming option in daily games.
