Indians | Michael Brantley to resume swinging

Mon, 23 May 2016 12:56:31 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) will resume swinging Tuesday, May 24, and continue doing so through the team's road trip. He'll be re-evaluated when the Indians return home.

Fantasy Tip: There remains no timetable for Brantley's return, so his owners will need to remain patient and keep him stashed. Marlon Byrd and Jose Ramirez will continue to benefit the most with starts in the outfield while Brantley is sidelined, with Ramirez being slightly more attractive for his positional versatility in deeper leagues.

Indians | No timetable for Michael Brantley's return

Wed, 18 May 2016 17:01:53 -0700

The Cleveland Indians have not established a timetable for the return of OF Michael Brantley (shoulder). He received an anti-inflammatory injection during a checkup Tuesday, May 17, and is expected to be shut down for five to seven days before he resumes hitting, according to manager Terry Francona.

Fantasy Tip: The team is erring on the side of caution when it comes to Brantley's rehab after he played just 11 games before landing on the disabled list for the second time this season. He should remain stashed in all fantasy formats. OFs Marlon Byrd and Jose Ramirez will continue to see the lion's share of the playing time in left field for Cleveland during his absence and they are worth owning in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Indians | Michael Brantley receives injection

Tue, 17 May 2016 15:38:11 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) was examined by Dr. Craig Morgan Tuesday, May 17, and it was confirmed that Brantley is dealing with a subacromial impingement in his shoulder. He received an anti-inflammatory injection and will continue with his rehab. There is no return timeline for Brantley.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley had just two extra-base hits (both doubles) and a .231 average in his 39 at-bats after coming off the DL the first time. It's perplexing to his fantasy owners, especially since we don't know how long he'll be out this time. Sit tight and keep him stashed everywhere. Marlon Byrd and Jose Ramirez could split time in left field in the meantime, with Ramirez having more appeal and upside in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Indians | Michael Brantley meeting with surgeon

Mon, 16 May 2016 15:34:13 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) is scheduled to meet with Dr. Craig Morgan Tuesday, May 17, in Wilmington, Del. Morgan performed the November surgery to repair a labral tear in Brantley's non-throwing shoulder. Brantley is dealing with inflammation in his right shoulder and is currently on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to stash Brantley in all fantasy formats, and check back for updates on his recovery and return timeline. In his absence, Jose Ramirez and Marlon Byrd have been seeing more playing time. Ramirez and Byrd are nothing more than low-end options in deep mixed leagues and likely best left to AL-only formats.

Indians | Michael Brantley placed on DL

Sat, 14 May 2016 08:43:44 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a shoulder injury. The team recalled 2B Michael Martinez from Class AAA Columbus. C Roberto Perez (thumb) was also moved to the 60-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley missed several games before being placed on the disabled list because of the injury, so it is not known how long he will be sidelined. Marlon Byrd and Jose Ramirez should both receive more playing time because of the injury. Byrd has received limited playing time in May but has four hits and four RBI in his last three games. Ramirez has gone 3-for-13 over the last seven days but is hitting .309 on the season. Both players should be sleeper options in daily fantasy leagues when they play and could also be short-term options in deeper mixed leagues.

Indians | Michael Brantley could resume hitting Saturday

Fri, 13 May 2016 17:21:11 -0700

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said the team should find out Saturday, May 14, if OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) can resume hitting or if more rest is recommended. Brantley has missed three consecutive games due to right shoulder fatigue but Francona believes it is premature to consider placing him on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley has hit just .231 in 39 at-bats this season with two doubles, no home runs, seven RBI and six strikeouts after beginning the season on the DL while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He should remain stashed in all seasonal formats. 3B/OF Jose Ramirez and OF Marlon Byrd will see the biggest increase in fantasy value if Brantley is forced to miss additional games and they are worthy of daily lineup consideration.

Indians | Michael Brantley remains out

Fri, 13 May 2016 12:11:03 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) remains out of the starting lineup Friday, May 13. 3B/OF Jose Ramirez is starting in left field and is batting fifth against Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley hasn't rebounded the way the Tribe had hoped after he returned from offseason shoulder surgery. This is concerning to those that took Brantley at a reduced cost as a third outfielder in drafts this spring. Keep Brantley on your bench for now, but he could return to the lineup later this weekend. Ramirez receives a short-term boost and is a sleeper worthy of choosing in daily games tonight. Ramirez has performed well in a utility role and is batting .304 with a home run and 12 RBI in 79 at-bats.

Indians | Michael Brantley to be re-evaluated Friday

Wed, 11 May 2016 17:11:35 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) will be re-evaluated Friday, May 13, to determine if he's ready to return to the starting lineup, according to manager Terry Francona. He has missed the team's past two games due to shoulder soreness.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley is batting .231 with two doubles, no home runs and seven RBI in 39 at-bats and the club is hoping that his performance will improve with extra rest. If Brantley is unable to return to action Friday, INF/OF Jose Ramirez is worthy of consideration as a value play in daily fantasy contests.

Indians | Michael Brantley sitting Wednesday

Wed, 11 May 2016 08:26:19 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley is out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11, with OF Rajai Davis leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is hitting .150 the last seven days, but he has hit .400 against Doug Fister in 30 career at-bats. He's a low-end consideration today.

Indians | Michael Brantley needs a breather

Tue, 10 May 2016 17:11:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) is being rested Tuesday, May 10, and he's likely to sit again Wednesday, May 11, according to manager Terry Francona. Brantley's shoulder isn't responding as well as the team would've liked. The Indians have an off day Thursday, May 12. "This is where I'm kind of kicking myself a little bit," Francona said. "We might have gone a little too far, too much, too fast. I didn't want to do that, but we probably did. We'll give him tonight and probably tomorrow to allow him to bounce back like we want him to."

Fantasy Tip: Brantley has no home runs and only two extra-base hits in 43 plate appearances since returning from the DL. Hopefully for his owners, Brantley will benefit from the rest and be more productive at the plate. For now keep him benched until we see better returns. Jose Ramirez will benefit in the short term and is a nice cheap option in daily games.
