Indians | Jason Kipnis could start in three-hole

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 13:31:07 -0800

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis could bat third to start the season with OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) projected to miss approximately the first month of the season.

Fantasy Tip: For the first month of the season, should Kipnis hit third, he projects to see more RBI opportunities and likely score fewer runs. However, it isn't a huge difference maker for his fantasy value. Kipnis bounced back with an All-Star season in 2015, and he checks out as a high-end option at the keystone and is worth a look in the early middle rounds of drafts entering 2016. Brantley is a speculative grab and stash outside the top-100 picks.

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 08:51:14 -0800

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) said he's unsure when he'll begin taking swings, but full health is important for him to repeat his swing mechanics throughout the season. Brantley said he's targeting the season opener, but he's unsure of his timetable.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley is likely pegged to return in May or June, which will limit his fantasy output to a low-end OF2 or a high-end OF3.

Indians | Michael Brantley does agility work

Thu, 28 Jan 2016 10:32:17 -0800

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) did agility work and played catch Thursday, Jan. 28. His shoulder looked good in footwork drills, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Zack Meisel.

Fantasy Tip: The early word is that Brantley could be out until May or June, but he's a solid complementary outfielder in fantasy if you can snag him as a later OF2.

Indians | Michael Brantley won't be rushed back

Mon, 25 Jan 2016 15:27:29 -0800

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) may be able to return some time in April or May, but the team will be cautious with him and could hold him out until June if his progress is coming along slowly.

Fantasy Tip: Despite playing in 137 games in 2015, Brantley still managed to hit .310 and club 15 home runs. But it was a disappointing season for his owners, and because of that, many will likely be off his scent in 2016. Because he's likely to miss the start of the season, Brantley could be an excellent value pick in drafts if you're willing to take on a little added risk.

Indians | Michael Brantley on track in recovery

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 15:30:49 -0800

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) underwent a checkup on his shoulder Tuesday, Dec. 8, and nothing has changed with his recovery.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Brantley to miss the beginning of the season, but his recovery from shoulder issues shouldn't last until the summer months unless he has a setback. He still deserves a spot on your fantasy roster, but you can wait until the later rounds and use him for depth. Having disabled list spots to use on him will be helpful to begin the year.

Indians | Michael Brantley might be out until May

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 18:55:31 -0800

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) will be sidelined at least part of the first month of the 2016 regular season, and his recovery from right shoulder surgery could even linger into May. "There's been a lot of information that's been misreported over the last couple of days," general manager Chris Antonetti said Monday, Dec. 7. "Michael is on track for his recovery. He's actually set for a recheck (Tuesday). There's been nothing out of the ordinary with his rehab so far."

Fantasy Tip: Two baseball reporters, including a Cleveland beat writer, indicated over the weekend that Brantley could be sidelined into the summer months. However, it appears Dr. Smooth remains on track to miss just a few weeks to the first month of the season. Fantasy owners will want to be careful drafting him, and have plenty of outfield depth on hand just in case the recovery just last longer than anticipated.

Indians | Michael Brantley had torn labrum

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 10:39:16 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) could miss the start of the regular season next year after he needed surgery to fix a torn labrum in his right shoulder Monday, Nov. 9. Brantley could be ready for "game action" in five to six months. Brantley dealt with back and shoulder problems for much of the year.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that it's to Brantley's non-throwing shoulder, but the bad news is there's a good chance he won't be ready for the regular season next year. However, that'll make him a tremendous discount at the back end of fantasy drafts if you're willing to take on a little risk and stash him to open the year.

Indians | Michael Brantley out 5-6 months

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 09:53:03 -0800

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) underwent surgery on his right shoulder and will be out five to six months.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley put up another season with a batting average over .300 and also hit 15 home runs, drove in 84 and stole 15 bases in 137 games. However, this injury will put a damper on his 2016 season and fantasy value, as he's almost certainly to miss the start of the season unless he makes a very quick recovery. He's still worth a late-round flier in all formats, however.

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 20:39:19 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) plans to begin a two-week treatment program on his right shoulder to try to avoid surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is out for the rest of the regular season, but as long as his recovery goes well, he should be an early-round pick in drafts next season.
