Indians | Michael Brantley eyeing oppo power

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 15:01:01 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley is focused on going the opposite way with authority more this year after a suggestion by his father this spring. Last year, Brantley's father encouraged him to be more aggressive at the plate and it worked out, as Brantley finished with a .327 average and 20 home runs, 45 doubles, 94 runs and 97 RBI. "Same swing, letting the ball travel," Brantley said. "Sometimes I like to guide it over there (to left field) and take a single and call it a day almost. This time, it's just staying on that ball and trying to actually drive it through the shortstop, through the left fielder with good backspin and carry."

Fantasy Tip: Brantley's breakout 2014 season put him on the fantasy map, and he has become one of the safer outfield commodities. Relying on more opposite field power should only strengthen his game. Brantley ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is dealing with a back issue in camp, but he should be good to go for opening day and your FantasyScore lineups.

Indians | Michael Brantley has sore back

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 13:12:08 -0800

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (back) sat out sprint competitions at spring workouts due to a sore lower back.

Fantasy Tip: This is not the news fantasy owners want to hear, as Brantley came into his own as a power-speed threat last season. This could be "better safe than sorry" mode, but keep an eye on Brantley as camp progresses. David Murphy could see more outfield time if Brantley is unable to play. If healthy, Brantley is a decent fantasy option for all AL and mixed leagues.
