Pirates | Andrew McCutchen not in lineup Saturday

Sat, 21 May 2016 10:23:18 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood Saturday, May 21. OF Starling Marte will bat second and play center field, with OF Gregory Polanco playing left field and batting third, while OF Matt Joyce starts in right field and bats sixth. In addition, INF Jung Ho Kang is batting cleanup and playing third base in his return to the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Remove McCutchen from all fantasy lineups this afternoon. Joyce is batting .353 with five home runs and 15 RBI in just 51 at-bats and should be viewed as an inexpensive source of offensive firepower for daily fantasy contests.

Pirates | Matt Joyce goes deep Monday

Mon, 16 May 2016 21:09:22 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Matt Joyce went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI against the Atlanta Braves Monday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce likely will receive a few more starts with Starling Marte away from the team. He has five home runs in his limited playing time this season and is hitting .372. Joyce does not play enough to be an option in mixed leagues but should be an option in daily fantasy leagues when he is in the lineup.

Pirates | Matt Joyce continues to rake

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:29:04 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Matt Joyce hit his fourth home run of the season in a losing effort against the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, May 4. Three of his four home runs have been of the pinch-hit variety this year. Joyce is hitting .371 on the year.

Fantasy Tip: What a difference a year makes. Joyce had an awful campaign in 2015 with the Angels (.174 in 247 at-bats) but has turned things around with his new club. Unfortunately for Joyce, he's a bench player in Pittsburgh unless an injury opens up more time in the outfield. For that reason his fantasy value lies mainly in daily formats when he enters the starting lineup.

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte and 2B Josh Harrison are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 3. OF Matt Joyce is starting in right field and hitting cleanup, while 1B Sean Rodriguez is at the keystone and is batting seventh against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce and Rodriguez have been very productive as role players for the Bucs to start the year, but their daily fantasy stock is down tonight while facing the almighty Arrieta.

Pirates | Matt Joyce makes roster

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 15:25:35 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Matt Joyce was informed Tuesday, March 29, that he will make the opening day roster as the fourth outfielder.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce was terrible last year with a .174 average and five home runs for the Angels. He should rebound in the average department, but his power is very mediocre these days. Not much to see here, and Joyce is mainly an option for those in deep NL-only leagues.
