Pirates | Starling Marte sitting Thursday

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 09:49:50 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte is out of the lineup Thursday, April 28, with OF Matt Joyce hitting cleanup. C Francisco Cervelli also has the day off, which bumps 2B Josh Harrison up to fifth, and C Chris Stewart is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce has a .333-2-7 line and is a solid plug-and-play in Coors Field against Tyler Chatwood. J-Hay is on fire and is a daily consideration. Stewart is a basement flyer because of the park.

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen sitting out

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 15:01:43 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis Monday, April 25. OF Starling Marte will start in center field, while OF Matt Joyce will start in left field and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce has been used mostly as a pinch hitter this season but does have a .300 average over the first few weeks of the season. Joyce could be a desperation option in some daily fantasy leagues, but owners should be able to find better options in most leagues.

Pirates | Matt Joyce leading off

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 07:33:19 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Matt Joyce is leading off Tuesday, April 12, with 1B John Jaso out of the lineup. 1B Michael Morse is hitting eighth in place of Jaso at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce is 5-for-18 (.278) with a homer and four RBIs against Anibal Sanchez and is worth the flyer again today in DFS. Morse is worth a cheap, low-end flyer as well.

Pirates | Matt Joyce makes roster

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 15:25:35 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Matt Joyce was informed Tuesday, March 29, that he will make the opening day roster as the fourth outfielder.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce was terrible last year with a .174 average and five home runs for the Angels. He should rebound in the average department, but his power is very mediocre these days. Not much to see here, and Joyce is mainly an option for those in deep NL-only leagues.

Pirates | Orioles interested in Matt Joyce

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 14:26:50 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Matt Joyce is drawing interest from the Baltimore Orioles. The Pirates have until Tuesday, March 29, to decide whether or not to put him on their active roster.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce was a pretty productive player from 2011-13, but he hasn't done anything of note since. Even so, he'd be moving into a much better situation if he were to land in Baltimore, as they could be seeking a replacement outfielder for Hyun-Soo Kim if he doesn't open the season with the major league roster. If that were to happen, Joyce could receive a considerable bulk of playing time, though he'd probably also have to beat out Nolan Reimold.

MLB | Matt Joyce playing winter ball

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 14:08:09 -0800

Free-agent OF Matt Joyce (Angels) is playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic in an effort to regain his stroke at the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce was a .254-9-52 hitter in Tampa Bay in 2014, but his batting average dropped 80 points last season. His fantasy value went right with it, but if he has a decent winter ball experience then he could be a low pick in mixed league formats. He does have the tools, Joyce just lost them somewhere.

Angels | Matt Joyce works out

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 17:42:21 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce (concussion) went through his first workout Monday, Aug. 3, since suffering a concussion July 26. He will be evaluated by a doctor Monday night.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will be back, but when he does return he will find the outfield landscape has changed dramatically after the team acquired several outfielders at the non-waiver trade deadline. FantasyScore players likely need not pay him any mind even when he does return.

Angels | Matt Joyce's time with Angels done?

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 09:27:49 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce (concussion), who is currently on the seven-day concussion disabled list, might not have a spot on the team anymore after the Angels traded for OFs Shane Victorino, David Murphy and David DeJesus in the last two days. Joyce was hitting .178 with five home runs and 21 RBI as the team's left fielder. General manager Bill Stoneman made no announcements on Joyce's future. Joyce was in an 0-for-23 slump and is hitless since July 9. Stoneman is hesitant to part with any of the team's top prospects, such as SP Sean Newcomb, in order to further improve the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: If you were holding onto Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) in a deep AL-only league, it's probably time to cut him. Victorino, Murphy and DeJesus could all see consistent playing time in platoon roles in left field and at designated hitter, but it could be a frustrating situation for fantasy owners to tread through.
