Giants | Sergio Romo getting closer

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 17:40:16 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (elbow) came out of his latest rehab appearance OK Sunday, June 26, and he will appear in at least one more game for Class A San Jose. The team is being "super cautious" to ensure he's healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Romo has been out since April 10 and the Giants are understandably being cautious with one of the key pieces of their bullpen, considering he's already had one setback when he was supposed to return to the club weeks ago. Romo is a must-add reliever in leagues that score holds when he's back healthy.

Giants | Sergio Romo could return this weekend

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 15:16:49 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (elbow) is scheduled to complete back-to-back outings Thursday, June 23, for Class AAA Sacramento. The team will then decide if he should make one more appearance or activate him this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Romo has been sidelined since the first week of the season, but it looks like the 33-year-old is nearing his return to the Giants. Considering he's the club's go-to setup man, owners should be rushing to the waiver wire for his services if he's out there, for those who are in leagues that score holds. Romo is as effective a late-inning reliever as there is in the National League.

Giants | Sergio Romo to start rehab assignment

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 15:34:08 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (forearm) will begin his rehab assignment and pitch an inning for Class A San Jose Friday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately for Romo, he won't have a shot at any save chances in the next few days with Santiago Casilla on paternity leave. He's been one of the more successful eighth-inning setup men in baseball the last few years but lacks much fantasy value in mixed leagues without regular save opportunities. Romo is a handcuff option for Casilla owners and those speculating on saves avenues down the road.

Giants | Sergio Romo moved to 60-day DL

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 23:36:28 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on Friday, June 10.

Fantasy Tip: This isn't a surprise after Romo suffered a setback a little over a week ago. His return date is foggier than ever, and he's not worth holding onto unless you're an NL-only owner with room to spare on the bench.

Giants | Sergio Romo suffers setback

Tue, 31 May 2016 14:42:35 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (elbow) is suffering from a tender elbow but an MRI exam showed no structural damage. The Giants plan to hold him out for four to five days, and he won't be activated from the disabled list soon.

Fantasy Tip: Romo can be one of the more valuable eighth-inning setup men when he's healthy. As you can see, that's far from the case right now. Scoop him up if you're desperate for saves or own Santiago Casilla, but you can now hold off on that for a bit.

Giants | Sergio Romo's rehab schedule

Mon, 23 May 2016 17:24:37 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (forearm) is set to begin his rehab with Class AAA Sacramento Monday, May 23, and make additional appearances with them every other day until Monday, May 30, when he is expected to rejoin the team if there are no setbacks. He'll "largely" be the eighth inning guy again.

Fantasy Tip: Romo was out to a nice start this year, picking up a hold each of his four appearances before going down with injury. He hasn't pitched since April 10, so there might be some rust involved, but when he's settled in again, the 33-year-old right-hander is one of the best set-up men in the business and should be owned in all leagues that score holds.

Giants | Sergio Romo beginning rehab assignment

Mon, 23 May 2016 10:38:49 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (forearm) will start his rehab assignment with Class AAA Sacramento Monday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is at least a week away from returning to the Giants bullpen, where he'll likely resume his role as the primary eighth-inning setup man to Santiago Casilla. Hunter Strickland is another option in the ninth if Casilla falters, though, so Romo's fantasy value is very limited as a handcuff for Casilla owners.

Giants | Sergio Romo roughly two weeks away

Fri, 20 May 2016 16:42:57 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (forearm) threw an extended spring training outing Friday, May 20, and he will join Class AAA Sacramento for a rehab assignment next. Romo is 10 to 14 days from returning to the Giants, manager Bruce Bochy said Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Romo has very limited fantasy value. Hunter Strickland is likely next in line for the closer role if Santiago Casilla implodes or is injured, and Romo has probably seen his time pass in the ninth-inning role for San Francisco.

Giants | Sergio Romo progressing

Thu, 05 May 2016 23:22:38 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (forearm) has been playing long toss from 90 feet and will throw from a mound Monday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: Romo isn't worth owning in many leagues and has likely fallen behind Hunter Strickland in the pecking order should Santiago Casilla falter.

Giants | Sergio Romo throws on flat ground

Tue, 03 May 2016 15:44:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo (elbow) threw off flat ground from 90 feet Tuesday, May 3.

Fantasy Tip: The Gigantes are being cautious with the 33-year-old, but when he's ready to return he should slot back in as the eighth-inning setup man to Santiago Casilla. Casilla has had his problems in the ninth inning and could be on a short leash, so stash Romo now if he's available in deeper leagues if you're speculating on saves.
