Blue Jays | Marco Estrada expected to start Monday

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 19:55:16 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (back) appears likely to make his next scheduled start versus the Colorado Rockies Monday, June 27. He left his last outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday, June 21, due to tightness in his back.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada is 5-3 with a 2.70 ERA through 14 starts this season, with 37 walks and 84 strikeouts over 93 1/3 innings. The 32-year-old right-hander has tossed seven consecutive quality starts but should be viewed as a somewhat risky play in DFS Monday because he will be pitching at Coors Field.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada leaves Tuesday start

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 04:45:53 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (back) left his team's start Tuesday, June 21, after six innings due to back tightness. No further details were available on his condition.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a huge problem for the Blue Jays since it involves the back. Then again, Estrada could bounce back and this wouldn't be an issue. All you can do is stay tuned to see if Estrada has to miss a turn or whether he will be all right.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada defeats Phils Wednesday

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 20:17:33 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (5-2) allowed two runs on four hits over 6 2/3 innings in a victory over the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday, June 15, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada has tossed six consecutive quality starts and makes a viable pitching option in all fantasy formats. His next outing will come against the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday, June 21.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada's changeup successful

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 16:03:10 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada has recorded 32 of his 63 strikeouts (50%) with his changeup in 2016. That ranks him second in the majors in that category.

Fantasy Tip: This could help explain why Estrada is having a career year so far with a 4-2 record, 2.41 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. However, he's in line for serious regression due to his 3.5 BB/9 and extremely low .191 BABIP (batting average on balls in play). The correction could begin tonight at home against a strong Orioles lineup. Beware if you own him. It'd be the right time to sell high.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada misses no-hitter

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 13:41:56 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada took a no-hitter into the eighth inning Sunday, June 5, against the Boston Red Sox. Estrada ended up allowing two hits and two earned runs, with three walks and five strikeouts, in a 5-4 victory. Opponents are hitting .177 against Estrada, who carries a 0.98 WHIP.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada's numbers are decent, and when you consider he just came off a month of May with a 2-0 record and 2.14 ERA, it looks like Estrada is heating up on the mound. Continue to keep Estrada active in all formats.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada beats NYY again

Tue, 31 May 2016 03:55:31 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada became the first Toronto starter since 1982 to beat the New York Yankees twice in a five-day span, allowing three hits and striking out six over eight scoreless innings Monday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: A lack of run support has resulted in just three wins, but Estrada owns a 2.43 ERA and excellent ratios and should be starting in all formats.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada earns second win

Wed, 25 May 2016 22:01:18 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada earned his second victory of the season on Wednesday, May 25, against the New York Yankees. Estrada, who hadn't won since April 10, allowed four hits and three runs in seven innings.

Fantasy Tip: Well, that was overdue. In the seven starts he made between his first and second victories, Estrada worked fewer than six frames just once and yielded one earned run four times. With any kind of support Estrada could have five wins by now and is doing enough with strikeouts and ratios to remain viable even without the Ws.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada gets another no-decision

Fri, 20 May 2016 04:48:26 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada picked up his fourth straight no-decision Thursday, May 19, as Toronto won, 3-2, over the Minnesota Twins in 11 innings. Estrada has ab average of 2 1/2 runs support in his past eight starts.

Fantasy Tip: To be honest, it is very hard for Estrada to pick up a win or two along the way as long as he is getting run support like this. Estrada's fantasy value is mixed. He won't cause you a ton of damage in daily and keeper formats, but that offense deserves a few boos because it is preventing Estrada from realizing his true potential.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada can't buy a break

Sun, 08 May 2016 13:33:09 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada failed to collect a victory for the fifth straight outing Sunday, May 08, despite yielding one run on three hits and striking out eight across seven innings. It marked the third time in four starts Estrada has allowed no more than one earned run.

Fantasy Tip: In this one, Estrada left with a one-run lead before Drew Storen coughed it up. The Blue Jays' supremely talented offense obviously deserves its fair share of the blame for the 32-year-old's winless streak, as it has scored three runs or fewer in all six of his trips to the mound. Keep Estrada active as he'll try for his second win of the season yet again Saturday at the Texas Rangers.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada silences Red Sox

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 12:44:57 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada fanned eight over seven scoreless innings in a 3-0 home win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, April 10, after he was activated off the disabled list earlier in the day.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada dealt with a sore back during his DL stint but was brilliant in his season debut. The 32-year-old was already worth stashing given the fact he has posted sub-4.00 ERAs in three of the last four seasons and is coming off a 13-win season with the Blue Jays. He is slated to face the Red Sox again - this time in Fenway Park - in his next start on Friday.
