Blue Jays | Marco Estrada gets another no-decision

Fri, 20 May 2016 04:48:26 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada picked up his fourth straight no-decision Thursday, May 19, as Toronto won, 3-2, over the Minnesota Twins in 11 innings. Estrada has ab average of 2 1/2 runs support in his past eight starts.

Fantasy Tip: To be honest, it is very hard for Estrada to pick up a win or two along the way as long as he is getting run support like this. Estrada's fantasy value is mixed. He won't cause you a ton of damage in daily and keeper formats, but that offense deserves a few boos because it is preventing Estrada from realizing his true potential.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada can't buy a break

Sun, 08 May 2016 13:33:09 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada failed to collect a victory for the fifth straight outing Sunday, May 08, despite yielding one run on three hits and striking out eight across seven innings. It marked the third time in four starts Estrada has allowed no more than one earned run.

Fantasy Tip: In this one, Estrada left with a one-run lead before Drew Storen coughed it up. The Blue Jays' supremely talented offense obviously deserves its fair share of the blame for the 32-year-old's winless streak, as it has scored three runs or fewer in all six of his trips to the mound. Keep Estrada active as he'll try for his second win of the season yet again Saturday at the Texas Rangers.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada silences Red Sox

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 12:44:57 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada fanned eight over seven scoreless innings in a 3-0 home win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, April 10, after he was activated off the disabled list earlier in the day.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada dealt with a sore back during his DL stint but was brilliant in his season debut. The 32-year-old was already worth stashing given the fact he has posted sub-4.00 ERAs in three of the last four seasons and is coming off a 13-win season with the Blue Jays. He is slated to face the Red Sox again - this time in Fenway Park - in his next start on Friday.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada on target for Sunday

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 20:05:50 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (back) worked in a minor-league game Monday, April 4, and he remains on target to make his first regular season start Sunday, April 10, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners might want to see how Estrada performs in that first game, and make sure he makes it through the game without setback, before relying upon him in the active fantasy lineup.

Blue Jays | Two Blue Jays to DL

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 23:45:13 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 2B Devon Travis (shoulder) and SP Marco Estrada (back) were placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, April 2.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan Goins will have some AL-only value for a bit in Travis' place. Estrada is expected to pitch April 10, and he remains an AL-only option.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada to pitch Friday

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 15:20:36 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (back) will throw in a Grapefruit League game against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, March 25, as he continues to progress after battling a sore back for most of spring training. The Blue Jays are still unsure if Estrada will be ready for the regular season, and it will depend on his final two spring starts. Toronto can delay using a fifth starter until the second week of April.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada was already a shaky fantasy starter in mixed leagues before his back injury this spring. He was fortunate with lucky hit and strand rates in 2015 and is prime for some regression in 2016. Don't overpay. Estrada is best left to AL leagues to start the year.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada impressive Tuesday

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 17:24:54 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (back) tossed two scoreless innings in a minor league game Tuesday, March 16, with four strikeouts and no hits allowed. It is uncertain if he will start another minor league game or make his next appearance in a Grapefruit League game but he appears to be on track to be ready for the beginning of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada went 13-8 with a 3.19 ERA in 34 games (28 starts) for Toronto in 2015 but is unlikely to repeat those numbers this season because he pitches in a hitter-friendly ballpark and got lucky with hit and strand rates. On the flip side, he's likely to benefit from a great deal of run support, so he's worth considering as a SP5 or SP6 in mixed leagues.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada progressing

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 10:41:34 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (back) felt good after a bullpen session Wednesday, March 9, and he'll throw a simulated game Saturday, March 12, and is expected to return next week, according to manager John Gibbons. Gibbons still expects Estrada to be ready by opening day.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada had a career year in 2015, but don't expect a repeat. An injury this spring is already a bad start. He was buoyed by fortunate hit and strand rates, and he pitches in a heavy hitter's park. Select Estrada more safely as your fifth or sixth fantasy starter in deep mixed leagues.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada back on a mound

Fri, 04 Mar 2016 14:32:01 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (back) threw off a mound Friday, March 4, for the first time this spring after he experienced tightness in his lower back. Because he threw 200 innings in total last year, Toronto had already been planning on taking it slow with him. Estrada said he's right on schedule now.

"It's not a big deal. I've pitched for years and it hasn't bothered me," said Estrada, who will throw two or three more bullpen sessions before getting into a Grapefruit League game. "Swinging a bat kind of affects it a little bit, but I don't swing hard anyways. There isn't much torque when I hit."

Fantasy Tip: Estrada should have plenty of time to be ready for the start of the season unless he suffers a setback. Be careful with him in fantasy leagues. He went 13-8 with a 3.13 ERA in 28 starts for Toronto but was fortunate with lucky hit and strand rates. There's a good chance we see his ERA rise at Rogers Centre, so he's nothing more than an end-gamer in deep mixed universes.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada on the mend

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 06:57:03 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada's (back) stiffness in his back is subsiding, and he is expected to throw off a mound in the next few days.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada is a decent SP4 that should receive a lot of run support.
