San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (biceps) remains out of the lineup Thursday, April 17, with a sore right biceps. 2B Alexi Amarista is starting at third base again.
Fantasy Tip: Amarista will be the main beneficiary at third base if Headley needs to go on the disabled list. Yonder Alonso has been taking grounders at the hot corner, too.

San Diego Padres manager Bud Black said Wednesday, April 16, that the weakest backup position is third base, where INF Alexi Amarista started in place of the injured 3B Chase Headley (biceps). INF Ryan Jackson (wrist) is unavailable at Triple-A El Paso, so the team might look to 1B-OF Yonder Alonso or C Yasmani Grandal to play some third base if Headley is forced out for an extended period.

San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (biceps) is out with a right biceps strain Wednesday, April 16, but the team is hoping he only misses one day.
Fantasy Tip: Perhaps this injury is the reason why Headley has been struggling at the plate lately. In any event, it doesn't look to be serious. Check back tomorrow in daily leagues before putting him back in your lineup.

San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (calf) said he's "definitely 100 percent" healthy after dealing with a strained calf for much of spring training. Headley also acknowledged that he has had no progress in contract extension talks with the team, and he's prepared to become a free agent at the end of the 2014 season.
Fantasy Tip: Headley will be ready to go for opening night this Sunday. Last year was mired by injuries, but even if he stays healthy in 2014, he shouldn't be expected to put up his 2012 numbers.

San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (calf) went 3-for-7 in minor league games Wednesday, March 19, and he's expected to play in a major league game Thursday, March 20.
Fantasy Tip: It's a good first step back for Headley. He'll need to stay busy by taking at-bats in minor league games in order to be ready for opening day. There's still a chance he won't be, but it shouldn't affect his value any.

San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (calf) will receive minor league at-bats Wednesday, March 19, and will play in a regular game Thursday, March 20.
Fantasy Tip: Headley, assuming he doesn't encounter some sort of setback, should be able to get enough at-bats in on both the minor and major league sides to be at least close to ready for the start of the regular season. If Headley sits out to start the year, it'll likely be because the Padres are choosing to play it safe.

San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (calf) said he will not rush his way back from a strained calf, although it's possible he'll be ready for opening night. He's hoping he can resume playing in spring games within a week. "The at-bats I'm not worried about because I'll go down to the minor leagues and I can get five, 10, 15 in a day if I want," Headley said. "It's more being on my feet, bouncing back, getting my legs conditioned to play every day. If I can get a week to 10 days of games, then I'll feel really good."
Fantasy Tip: Headley may miss several regular season games, but it's not looking like he'll have a prolonged absence to open the season.

The San Diego Padres tried to sign 3B Chase Headley to a contract extension this offseason, but the two sides are far enough apart that he likely will become a free agent next offseason. The two sides are not having any contract negotiations at this point.
