Cubs | Jason Hammel likely for Game 4

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 09:01:29 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel is likely to pitch in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, Oct. 21, according to manager Joe Maddon. Hammel lasted just three innings in the Cubs' Game 4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the division series. The other option would be to bring SP Jon Lester back on three days of rest, and Maddon prefers not to do that.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) was limited down the stretch and went six innings just once in his last six starts. He's not the most attractive option in the championship series against a hot Mets club.

Cubs | Jake Arrieta to follow Jon Lester

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 10:40:20 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester will start Game 1 of the National League Championship Series, with SP Jake Arrieta following him in Game 2.

Fantasy Tip: Lester and Arrieta will face the winner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets Thursday. Arrieta has had a record-setting second half and remains the better option despite being touched up a bit in his last outing against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cubs | Jon Lester likely for Game 1 Saturday

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 13:21:07 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester is likely to start Game 1 of the National League Championship Series Saturday, Oct. 17, according to pitching coach Chris Bosio. "Right now it's probably going to be Jon because it's his turn," Bosio said. "That's why I don't see us doing anything real crazy. There's a comfort level with their work days, which for me is really important. Each of these guys has a routine."

Fantasy Tip: Lester ($8,000, 16.0% of cap) fared well in Game 1 of the National League Division Series, as the veteran struck out nine batters over 7 1/3 innings while allowing three earned runs. For his career, Lester sports a 6-5 record, a 2.66 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP and a 8.1 K/9 over 15 postseason games. Lester checks out as a solid starting pitching option at FantasyScore regardless of whether he faces the Los Angeles Dodgers or New York Mets.

Cubs | Jon Lester suffers loss in Game 1

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 18:24:00 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester allowed three runs on five hits over 7 1/3 scoreless innings in a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1 of the National League Division Series Friday, Oct. 9. He walked one and struck out nine.

Fantasy Tip: With Friday's loss, Lester ($8,000, 16.0% of cap) fell to 1-4 in six starts versus the Cards this year, including his outings during the regular season. However, he has a respectable 2.79 ERA against St. Louis and has struck out 43 batters over 38 2/3 innings, so FantasyScore owners should not be afraid to use him.

Cubs | Jon Lester steps up in playoffs

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 10:59:35 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester owns a career 2.57 ERA in the playoffs in 13 starts and 15 outings compared to a 3.55 ERA in all other games. He faces the St. Louis Cardinals, who owned the third-lowest OPS (.662) in the league this year against left-handers. However, Lester was 1-3 with a no-decision against them this year despite a 2.59 ERA and 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings in five starts. The Cardinals stole 12% of their total bases against Lester this year.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals have gotten to know Lester ($8,000, 16.0% of cap) well this year. His struggles to hold runners on are well-documented, and a scrappy team like St. Louis is well-equipped to take advantage of it. Lester is a primetime risk/reward pick on FantasyScore.

Cubs | Jon Lester starting Game 1

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 08:59:11 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester will start Game 1 of the division series against the St. Louis Cardinals Friday, Oct. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Lester ($8,000, 16.0% of cap) remains a fantasy ace, and he struck out 9.1 hitters per nine innings this season. Holding runners on was his biggest issue this year, and the Cardinals will likely look to take advantage if they get their speedsters on base. Lester had a 2.59 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings against St. Louis over five starts this year. He's certainly an option for your top pitching spot.

Cubs | Jon Lester pitches well in loss

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 18:27:13 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester (10-12) allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings in a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, Sept. 25, with no walks and six strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Lester ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) threw 72 of 102 pitches for strikes Friday but was outpitched by Gerrit Cole. He fell to 2-2 with a 2.65 ERA through five outings this month. His next scheduled start will come against the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Cubs | Jon Lester throws gem against Pirates

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 09:09:47 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester threw his first complete game for the Cubs and 12th of his career against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday, Sept. 15. He gave up five hits and a walk while striking out 12.

Fantasy Tip: After giving up five runs to close out August, Lester ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) is closing out his season strong and hasn't given up more than two earned runs in each of his three starts so far in September. He's fanned at least seven hitters in three of his last four starts and is striking out 9.0 hitters per nine innings this year. Lester remains an elite fantasy starter on FantasyScore.

Cubs | Jon Lester hurls quality start Wednesday

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 19:10:39 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester allowed one run on two hits over seven innings in a no-decision against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, Sept. 9, with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Lester ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) exited the game with a 3-1 lead and retired 20 of the final 21 batters he faced but the Cubs' bullpen wasted his strong effort. He will make his next start against the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Cubs | Jon Lester earns win Friday

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 18:08:27 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester (9-10) allowed two runs on five hits over five innings in a victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, Sept. 4, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: In his last four outings, Lester ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) has had two solid performances and two shaky ones, so FantasyScore owners may want to turn to someone who has displayed more consistency. His next start will come against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, Sept. 9.
