Dodgers | Scott Van Slyke rehab update

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 17:13:47 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Scott Van Slyke (back) could be cleared to resume baseball activities as soon as next week but will probably remain sidelined for another month. He has been on the disabled list for over a week due to tightness in his lower back.

Fantasy Tip: Trayce Thompson is seeing the bulk of the action in left field for the Dodgers in Van Slyke's absence, who are also missing Carl Crawford (back) and Andre Ethier (tibia). Thompson should be viewed as an NL-only option and an inexpensive flier for daily fantasy games when he has a favorable matchup.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal off DL

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 09:59:41 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal (forearm) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, April 12. OF Scott Van Slyke (back) was put on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal isn't in the lineup today, but he should be back in your lineups tomorrow. Van Slyke's injury opens up time for Trayce Thompson, who is an NL-only option and possibly a cheap DFS flyer in good matchups.

Dodgers | Scott Van Slyke, A.J. Ellis sitting

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 12:00:15 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Scott Van Slyke and C A.J. Ellis are not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto Sunday, April 10. OF Trayce Thompson will start in left field and is batting seventh, while C Austin Barnes will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson has hit two doubles in seven at-bats this season and could be a starting candidate in NL-only leagues Sunday. Barnes probably can be avoided in all leagues.

Dodgers | Scott Van Slyke removed after HBP

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 15:46:28 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Scott Van Slyke (back) was taken out of the game Saturday, April 9, against the San Francisco Giants with lower back tightness after getting hit by a pitch from SP Madison Bumgarner.

Fantasy Tip: Joc Pederson came on as a pinch runner and took over in center, pushing Trayce Thompson over to left. The Dodgers' once-deep outfield is quickly running out of bodies, as Carl Crawford went on the disabled list earlier Saturday with lower back soreness and Andre Ethier is expected to miss two to three months with a fractured tibia. Thompson is the most likely candidate for regular at-bats with all the turnover and might be worth a short-term add in most leagues.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford out again

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 15:15:34 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford is out of the lineup for the second straight day Friday, April 8. OF Scott Van Slyke draws the start in left field and is hitting seventh against San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford will split time with Van Slyke and others in left field throughout the year, and the aging veteran is, at best, a depth option in cavernous mixed leagues since his power has declined and he doesn't run as much. Cain doesn't strike fear in anyone these days, so Van Slyke could capitalize and be worth a cheap flyer in daily formats.

Dodgers | Justin Turner, Carl Crawford resting

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 09:47:43 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner and OF Carl Crawford are sitting out Thursday, April 7. OF Enrique Hernandez is starting at third base and hitting seventh, while OF Scott Van Slyke is in left field and is hitting fifth against San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy.

Fantasy Tip: Turner had offseason knee surgery and could be rested in day games following night games often in the early going. Both Van Slyke and Hernandez are midrange sleeper options at lowered costs in daily contests this afternoon.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford, Van Slyke to platoon

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 15:26:44 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OFs Carl Crawford and Scott Van Slyke are expected to form a platoon in left field until OF Andre Ethier (leg) can come back.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford's fantasy value is on the rise now, but he still may not be worth drafting in deep mixed leagues because of his speed and power decline due to injuries in recent years. Van Slyke and Crawford could be under-the-radar daily plays when they're in the lineup, though.

Dodgers | Scott Van Slyke has minor injury

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 11:17:42 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Scott Van Slyke (hip) will be sidelined for a day or two because of a minor hip injury.

Fantasy Tip: Van Slyke probably will return to the lineup later in the week and is on track for the start of the season. Van Slyke likely will not be a regular in the lineup but should receive starts at first base and in the outfield. He probably does not have a lot of value in mixed leagues but should be a solid option in NL-only leagues.

Yankees | Jose Fernandez an option for Yanks?

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 15:24:43 -0800

The New York Yankees, in addition to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks, are gathering information on Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez, according to source. It remains a long shot that the Marlins complete a trade for Fernandez, but conversations about him are far from dead. A source confirmed that the Marlins asked the Dodgers for a package led by SS Corey Seager, OF Scott Van Slyke and SP Julio Urias, Los Angeles' top pitching prospect. The Marlins have consistently denied reports that they would consider trading Fernandez.

Fantasy Tip: While a blockbuster trade for Fernandez is unlikely, it could happen this week during the winter meetings. Stay tuned. Fernandez showed why he is one of the best young pitchers in the game, successfully returning from Tommy John surgery and remaining dominant. Even if he remains in Miami, he'll be one of the first few pitchers off the board in fantasy drafts.

Dodgers | Scott Van Slyke has wrist injury

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 18:23:18 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 1B/OF Scott Van Slyke (wrist) said he will not be active for the National League Division Series because of a bruised right wrist.

Fantasy Tip: Van Slyke ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) suffered the initial injury to his wrist Sept. 15, and re-aggravated the injury while playing first base last week after getting brushed by baserunner Marlon Byrd. He is able to throw but can't hit, despite receiving a cortisone injection.
