Red Sox | Team Attempting to Void Abreu Deal

ESPN.com reports the Boston Red Sox are attempting to void the deal with 1B Michel Abreu because he couldn't establish residency and will not be eligible to play in 2006. Also, the club found out that he's not 26, as originally thought. His birth date is Feb. 8, 1975, making him 30.

Red Sox | Cuban Defector Abreu Signs

The Boston Globe's Gordon Edes reports the Boston Red Sox signed Cuban-defector 1B Michel Abreu to a deal with a $425,000 signing bonus. He hit .356 with 23 homers and 82 RBI in 78 games in his final professional season in Cuba. Those numbers eclipsed those of Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Kendry Morales during his last year. Abreu will turn 27 in January.
