Updating an earlier story, New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (knee) may require season-ending surgery because of an articular cartilage tear in his right knee.
"The initial effort is going to try to be to treat it conservatively with rest, probably involving injections, and then see how he responds to that. If that doesn't work, then you're looking at a surgical procedure. If that's the case, then his season is probably done," general manager Brian Cashman said.
Fantasy Tip: Cashman admitted the Yankees made an offer to then-free agent 1B James Loney at the end of spring training, but he turned it down before signing with the San Diego Padres, who recently dealt him to the New York Mets. Chris Parmelee and Rob Refsnyder will continue to see the majority of starts in Teixeira's place for now, but expect the Yankees to be aggressive in trading for a first baseman in the coming days and weeks.

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi and general manager Brian Cashman will discuss SS Brendan Ryan (calf), who has been out all season with a calf strain.
Fantasy Tip: With Didi Gregorius ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Stephen Drew ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) struggling, it's apparent the Yankees would like Ryan ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) back to serve as a backup infielder and even start a few games. Watch this situation and see how it affects everyone if Ryan is healthy enough.

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (lat) may require a DL stint, according to general manager Brian Cashman.
Fantasy Tip: Tex's up-and-down season seems to have hit another valley. Brian McCann may line up at first base for the duration, especially with INF/OF Kelly Johnson (groin) on the disabled list. It'd be good for McCann's value to play more frequently and not behind the plate.

Although New York Yankees RP David Robertson would seem to be the heir apparent to CL Mariano Rivera, general manager Brian Cashman is not anointing him the closer just yet. "We haven't anointed anybody the closer, so I don't know," Cashman said. "I know Robertson wants it. But we'll see how the winter shakes out and how the competition in spring training takes place." The Yankees have been in contact with free-agent closers like Grant Balfour (Athletics)
