Although New York Yankees RP David Robertson would seem to be the heir apparent to CL Mariano Rivera, general manager Brian Cashman is not anointing him the closer just yet. "We haven't anointed anybody the closer, so I don't know," Cashman said. "I know Robertson wants it. But we'll see how the winter shakes out and how the competition in spring training takes place." New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) tweeted that he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment. This must have upset the team's front office, and general manager Brian Cashman lashed out about the situation. "You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, (we will)," Cashman said to ESPN New York. "Alex should just shut the (expletive) up. That's it. I'm going to call Alex now."

The New York Yankees could be active leading up to the trade deadline, according to general manager Brian Cashman. "Man, I've been active already," Cashman said today on a conference call with reporters. "I feel like up until recently we've been getting a new player in here [often] they weren't relatively big splashes, but it just feels like from mid-Spring Training on, we've been on overdrive mixing and matching stuff. I'm always open for business, if it feels like they're incremental upgrades or significant ones."

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman suffered a broken right fibula and a dislocated right ankle in a skydiving accident Monday, Mar. 4. Cashman was taking part in an event to raise awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project. "I'm in great spirits, and it was an awesome experience," Cashman said. "The Golden Knights are first class. While I certainly didn't intend to raise awareness in exactly this fashion, I'm extremely happy that the Wounded Warrior Project is getting the well-deserved additional attention." Cashman is scheduled to undergo surgery.
