The Baltimore Orioles have cobbled together a list of six general manager candidates to succeed Andy MacPhail. The candidates are San Diego Padres vice president of baseball operations Josh Byrnes, Tampa Bay Rays senior vice president of baseball operations Gerry Hunsicker, New York Mets special assistant J.P. Ricciardi, Texas Rangers assistant general manager Thad Levine, Toronto Blue Jays assistant general manager Anthony LaCava and Florida Marlins assistant general manager Daniel Jennings.

ESPN.com reports the Toronto Blue Jays fired general manager J.P. Ricciardi Saturday, Oct. 3. Alexander Anthopoulos, the team's vice president of baseball operations and assistant general manager, has been named Ricciardi's replacement, the Blue Jays said in a release announcing the change.

Updating previous reports, Toronto Blue Jays C Michael Barrett (shoulder) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, because of a torn muscle and possible fracture in his right shoulder, according to The Associated Press. He sustained the injury while chasing a wild pitch Friday, April 17, against the Oakland Athletics, when he fell on a weighted sleeve in the Athletics' on-deck circle. General manager J.P. Ricciardi said X-rays were unable to reveal the extent of the injury because his shoulder was too swollen.

BlueJays.MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports Toronto Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi is confident in CL B.J. Ryan's ability to close games. "I think a lot was made of the velocity as opposed to the results," Ricciardi said. "The closer, it's more about the results than the velocity at some points. Obviously, listen, if we get to a point where we have to make an adjustment, we'll have to make an adjustment. But right now, there's no reason for us to think that he can't close."

Blue Jays | McDonald to serve as backup to Scutaro

The Ottawa Sun reports that Toronto Blue Jays SS John McDonald will serve as the backup to SS Marco Scutaro this season. There had been some concern that he would not make the 25-man roster, because 2B Joe Inglett and IF/OF Jose Bautista have also seen time at shortstop this spring, but general manager J.P. Ricciardi said McDonald is guaranteed of having a spot on the team.
