Nationals | Denard Span out Tuesday

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 12:32:04 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) is not playing Tuesday, July 7, against the Cincinnati Reds. OF Michael Taylor has taken Span's place in center field, and OF Matt den Dekker is in left.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) should be left out of your lineup until the all-clear is given, but back spasms could be a hindrance for a while. Taylor ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting .182 against Cincinnati pitching. He hasn't seen starter Johnny Cueto this season, but this average is not a good sign.

Nationals | Back still ailing Denard Span

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 20:46:21 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) left the game Monday, July 6, against the Cincinnati Reds due to back spasms.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($4,200; or 8.4% of cap) cannot be trusted by FantasyScore players right now, as he has been in and out of the lineup with back spasms lately. Michael Taylor ($3,700; or 7.4% of cap) could start in center field if Span needs to miss time, with Matthew den Dekker ($1,600; or 3.2% of cap) perhaps drawing some starts.

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 17:15:25 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) left the game Monday, July 6, against the Cincinnati Reds after two innings. He had been battling back spasms, although it's uncertain if that is the exact reason for his early departure.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($4,200; or 8.4% of cap) has been in and out of the lineup frequently, and he should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in at least two or three consecutive games without any setbacks.

Nationals | Denard Span's on-base streak ends

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 04:14:50 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span went 0-for-4 on Sunday, July 5, against the San Francisco Giants, bringing to an end his on-base streak at 23 games.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is still hitting a decent .305, so one hitless game is no cause for alarm. He is worth starting in FantasyScore when facing right-handed pitching (.343), as his average drops to .197 against lefties.

Nationals | Denard Span sitting vs. Giants

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 06:02:06 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span is not in the starting lineup Saturday, July 4. OF Michael Taylor is starting in center field and batting leadoff against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has been sidelined a few times recently due to a nagging back injury. With an early start time Saturday after a night game, it is likely just a rest day for the outfielder, especially since it is a tough matchup against Bumgarner. Taylor ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is nothing more than a high-risk dice roll Saturday for FantasyScore players.

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 18:36:05 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span is hitting .351 with a .916 OPS against right-handed pitching this season.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has been equally dreadful against lefties, hitting .190 with a .513 OPS, but with Jake Peavy on the mound Friday, Span should be an great mid-range play at FantasyScore.

Nationals | Denard Span scratched late

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 15:02:53 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) was a late scratch from the game Friday, June 26. OF Michael Taylor moves into center field and is hitting first, and OF Matt den Dekker is playing right field and batting eighth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Harang Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) receives a nice value boost setting the table for the Nats. den Dekker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and Span ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) should be avoided in all formats. Make sure to check back on Span's availability for the rest of the series, as this isn't the first time he has missed time due to back spasms.

Nationals | Denard Span leading off

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 13:18:23 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) is leading off and playing center field against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Thursday, June 18.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) only missed a game, and typically, he would be a solid value play, but Archer is a daunting matchup. Over his past seven games, Span has reached base at a .441 clip with five runs, two doubles, three RBI and three stolen bases to continue his solid season.

Nationals | Denard Span sitting vs. Rays

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 13:08:48 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 17. OF Michael Taylor is batting eighth and playing center field against Tampa Bay Rays SP Steven Geltz Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Consider it more of a rest day than anything else for Span ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) Wednesday. He is having an excellent season and was riding a hot stretch, where he had reached base at a .441 clip over his past seven games with five runs, two doubles, three RBI and three stolen bases. When called upon, Taylor ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has been rather mediocre and sports a .651 OPS. He should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation flier for FantasyScore contests Wednesday.
