Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (concussion) said he scored higher on his concussion test Tuesday, April 15, than he did on his baseline test. He's feeling much better and hopes to play in rehab games this week.

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span, who hit .300 in the final 87 games last season, said he worked with hitting coach Rick Schu to make his swing smoother, removing the gap between his front-leg plant and swinging motion. "Last year, especially early when he came over, he looked like he was a 'two-piece' hitter," manager Matt Williams said. "He would get his foot down really early, and then explode from there. Rick has been working with him about letting that flow a little better. So you'll see that in spring training; it's a little more of a subtle movement, instead of getting it down early and then using his hands. He's working on having that flow a little bit." Span is slated to hit leadoff for the team in 2014.
Fantasy Tip: Span's finish to the 2013 season is encouraging and should make you more comfortable in purchasing him this season. Hitting atop the Nats' lineup should put him in position to score plenty of runs, and if the average cooperates, you could have really nice value on your hands.

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span may have the perfect opportunity to improve on the 20 stolen bases he had in 2013 with new manager Matt Williams planning on being very aggressive on the base paths. "I like that. That's what I want to do. I haven't been as successful in stealing bases in my career, but that is something I strive to get better at everyday," Span said. "I will get better. I will get more than 20 this year, I'll tell you that." Span hired a speed coach in the offseason and spent time watching film of some of the great base stealers in history.

The Washington Nationals aren't looking to trade RPs Tyler Clippard or Drew Storen or OF Denard Span, according to general manager Mike Rizzo. "We haven't been fielding all that many calls on Clippard and Storen," Rizzo said. "There's a lot of 'lobby talk,' I call it, about it. But there's been actually no offer, no trade scenario that's official, that included Clippard or Storen. Or Span." The price for Clippard or Storen would be very high if they change their mind.
