Red Sox | Three BOS regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 08:16:58 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia, OF Brock Holt and C Christian Vazquez are out of the starting lineup versus Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez Sunday, April 17. OF Chris Young will play left field and bat sixth, C Ryan Hanigan will bat eighth and 2B Marco Hernandez will bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Young and Hanigan have combined to go 1-for-14 at the dish this year and Hernandez will be making his MLB debut this afternoon. None of these players are recommended options for daily fantasy games today.

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 12:12:43 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Blake Swihart is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 13. C Ryan Hanigan is doing the catching and is hitting eighth against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez.

Fantasy Tip: Hanigan is more of a defensive specialist and should be ignored in all fantasy baseball formats.

Red Sox | Blake Swihart out against Blue Jays

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 12:05:09 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Blake Swihart is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 8. C Ryan Hanigan is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman.

Fantasy Tip: Hanigan was expected to start Thursday, April 7, but the game was postponed, so this might be a situation where he is going to serve as Joe Kelly's personal catcher. Regardless, Hanigan is nothing more than a desperation start in all fantasy formats, as he owns a .219/.319/.303 slash line over the past three seasons. Swihart is an up-and-coming backstop, though, and he posted a .303/.353/.452 line in the second half last year. There is potential for Swihart to be a starting catcher in all fantasy leagues before the season is done.

Red Sox | No Blake Swihart Thursday

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 11:41:13 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Blake Swihart is taking the day off Thursday, April 7. C Ryan Hanigan is starting behind the plate and is batting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar.

Fantasy Tip: Hanigan has very little, if any at all, fantasy value as Boston's backup catcher. He hit .247 with just two home runs and 16 RBI in 201 plate appearances in 2015. Ignore him in all formats Thursday.

Red Sox | Ryan Hanigan likely done for year

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 19:40:06 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Ryan Hanigan (hand) is day-to-day with a sore right hand, and Torey Lovullo said Hanigan will only be used in emergency situations going forward.

Fantasy Tip: Hanigan ($3,100, 6.2% of ca) isn't officially finished for the year, but it sounds like he can be ignored at FantasyScore the rest of the way.

Red Sox | Blake Swihart sitting against Rays

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 12:33:36 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Blake Swihart is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 24. C Ryan Hanigan is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Swihart ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday. The rookie is having a strong second half with a .298/.352/.405 slash line and 25 runs through 36 games. Hanigan ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has a .626 OPS in September, and is nothing more than a low-priced flier at FantasyScore Thursday.

Red Sox | No Blake Swihart against Rays

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 13:06:50 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Blake Swihart is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 21. C Ryan Hanigan is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Monday.

Fantasy Tip: The rookie has sat out consecutive games, so you'll want to check back and for a potential injury announcement. Swihart ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) projects to return to the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 22, assuming he is healthy, though. Hanigan ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a low-end FantasyScore play Monday, as Archer ($9,200, 18.4% of cap) presents a difficult matchup.

Red Sox | Blake Swihart out Tuesday

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 13:06:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Blake Swihart is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 15. C Ryan Hanigan is behind the dish and is batting eighth against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez.

Fantasy Tip: Hanigan ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is on the expensive side for a backup catcher without much power, so you should consider him a very weak play on FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Blake Swihart out against Toronto

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 12:32:05 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Blake Swihart is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 9. C Ryan Hanigan is starting and batting eighth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison has been much better at home than on the road for Toronto this year, so this is a game where Red Sox hitters are attractive in daily formats. Hanigan ($3,100, 6.2% of cap), however, remains a low-end catching commodity with only two homers on the season.
