Angels | Chris Iannetta breaks out in loss

Mon, 18 May 2015 15:38:02 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Chris Iannetta went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a solo home run, two runs and two RBI Monday, May 18, to raise his average to .156.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) was hitting just .123 (9-for-73) before the offensive onslaught Monday. He'll likely continue to split playing time with Carlos Perez, though, limiting his fantasy value. Iannetta remains a low-end FantasyScore catcher, but if this performance awakens him at the plate, he could be a sleeper play.

Angels | Chris Iannetta starting Saturday

Sat, 16 May 2015 13:41:35 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Chris Iannetta will start behind the plate Saturday, May 16, against the Baltimore Orioles. C Carlos Perez will be given the night off.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has just seven hits through 79 plate appearances to begin the season and he has been striking out at a putrid 31.6% clip. Iannetta's lone multi-hit game came April 14, against the Texas Rangers. Perez has all but taken over every-day catcher duties, and Iannetta won't deserve much consideration whenever he draws the start.

Angels | Carlos Perez Halos' everyday catcher?

Thu, 14 May 2015 10:49:28 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez has effectively become the team's starting catcher over C Chris Iannetta, although manager Mike Scioscia won't admit it. Perez has started six of the team's last eight games at catcher and has six hits in his first 18 at-bats in the majors. "Any time a player plays well, you're going to earn more playing time," Scioscia said. "That's what Carlos has shown."

Fantasy Tip: With Iannetta ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) hitting an embarrassing .101 (7-for-69) with 25 strikeouts, Perez ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should continue to see the majority of starts behind the dish. However, don't let the quick start to Perez's major league career fool you into thinking he's anything more than a low-end catcher matchup play at FantasyScore.

Angels | Carlos Perez pushing for No. 1

Thu, 07 May 2015 07:46:50 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez started for the second straight night Wednesday, May 6. If Perez plays again Thursday, May 7, he has become the team's No. 1 catcher over C Chris Iannetta, in the opinion of The Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher. "We're going to need them both, so whatever it turns out to be, it turns out to be," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Obviously when a guy plays well, you can earn more playing time."

Fantasy Tip: Perez hit .361 in 17 games at Class AAA this season and would become a matchup play on FantasyScore if he earns even a 50-50 split.

Angels | Chris Iannetta out of lineup

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 10:58:34 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Chris Iannetta is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 30. C Drew Butera is starting and hitting eighth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta is hitting a measley .093 (5-for-54) with one RBI to begin the year. Stay away from him for the foreseeable future at FantasyScore. Butera ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) isn't worth your time, either.

Angels | Chris Iannetta sidelined

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 17:44:48 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Chris Iannetta (hand) is out of the lineup Tuesday, April 28, against the Oakland Athletics after suffering a cut on his hand slamming a bat.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta has been slumping, and the frustrations caused him an injury. FantasyScore owners will obviously want to stay away from him, even at a tempting price of $2,100 (or 4.2% of cap) until he is healthy and able to hit with consistency.

Angels | Chris Iannetta not in lineup

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 16:11:54 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Chris Iannetta is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 28. C Drew Butera is receiving the start and is hitting eighth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta is off to a terrible start (.100, 5-for-50 with one RBI), so he finds himself on the bench after an off day. Butera ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be ignored at FantasyScore in a tough matchup against A's ace Gray.

Angels | Chris Iannetta out Thursday

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 12:04:36 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Chris Iannetta is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 23. C Drew Butera is behind the plate and hitting eighth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez.

Fantasy Tip: Butera ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is as cheap as they come on FantasyScore, but he's not a very attractive FantasyScore catcher Thursday.

Angels | Chris Iannetta will not play

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 10:53:10 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Chris Iannetta is not in the starting lineup Sunday, April 19. C Drew Butera will start at catcher Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Butera ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has received only three at bats so far this season and probably is not the best option for owners to consider on FantasyScore.

Angels | Chris Iannetta working on framing

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 09:50:45 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Chris Iannetta is working hard this spring to work on his pitch-framing skills behind the plate, since he hasn't been good at it in recent seasons. He ranked 87th among 105 catchers in gaining extra strikes for pitchers last year with a score of minus-19. San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey led the league with a score of plus-179.6. "I might have to adjust my glove positioning," Iannetta said. "I try to keep a low target, but maybe my 'relaxation point' was a little too high."

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners could care less about what Iannetta does on defense, but it shouldn't be overlooked. If he improves at framing pitches, perhaps skipper Mike Scioscia will be fine with giving Iannetta more starts behind the dish in 2015. Iannetta doesn't crack our list of top-20 fantasy catchers, but he's a fine second option in leagues that start two catchers, and he could provide double-digit home runs.
