Panthers | Greg Olsen practices in full

Wed, 13 Dec 2017 15:33:51 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was able to practice in full on Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen sounds like he'll be healthy enough to go, but he remains a risky fantasy play. He returned in Week 12 and had just one catch for 10 yards before aggravating his injury, he was inactive in Week 13 and he was blanked last week against Minnesota. Use him at your own risk in Week 15.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) returned in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings, but he went without a catch and he was targeted just once.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen doesn't look 100 percent, or anything close to it, and he is a risky fantasy play for the remainder of this season.

Panthers | Greg Olsen will play in Week 14

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 09:00:55 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is officially active for the team's Week 14 game.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is expected to receive his normal workload this week but will be a risky option because he has dealt with foot injuries for most of the season. He can still be a No. 1 fantasy tight end in most leagues.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is listed as questionable to face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14, but he is expected to play, according to a source.

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 8, but is listed as questionable for Week 14.

Panthers | Greg Olsen listed as questionable

Fri, 08 Dec 2017 10:31:38 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is listed as questionable for Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen was held out last week as the Panthers opted not to push his foot injury on the artificial surface of the Superdome with the first of three straight home games on natural grass beginning this weekend. Olsen is going to be a risky option to a difficult matchup and the likelihood he could suffer an in-game setback, but with Devin Funchess drawing shadow coverage from Xavier Rhodes and the lack of good fantasy options at tight end, most owners likely have to start him and hope for the best.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is on track to play this week and is not expected to see limited snaps. He is one of the best tight ends in the NFL and should be a starter in all fantasy leagues despite the matchup.

Panthers | Greg Olsen won't be limited Sunday

Wed, 06 Dec 2017 21:12:37 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) will not be on a "pitch count" against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Olson had a snap restriction in Week 12, though that didn't much matter since he aggravated the injury. His return should be a big boost for the offense, even if a tough matchup with the Vikings dampens his fantasy outlook. It'd be tempting to roll him out there this Sunday despite the potential downside.

Panthers | Greg Olsen practices fully

Wed, 06 Dec 2017 11:22:52 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Fantasy Tip: There were reports Carolina did not want to push Olsen in Week 13 against the New Orleans Saints because the Superdome isn't a natural grass field, and this news would seem to suggest it played a role in the team's thinking. With three straight games at home beginning this week, Olsen should be in good shape in that regard as long as his foot can hold up. He's not a recommended play in fantasy this week, however, as the Minnesota Vikings are playing very good defense of late.

Panthers | Greg Olsen practicing

Wed, 06 Dec 2017 08:20:36 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is practicing Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Fantasy Tip: It's a good sign for his status this week. The Minnesota Vikings present a tough matchup, but Olsen is a mid-to-upper-tier tight end if he's good to go.

Panthers | Greg Olsen expected to sit out Week 13

Sun, 03 Dec 2017 05:28:29 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is expected to sit out Week 13's game against the New Orleans Saints, although the injury is not believed to be a long-term issue, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: X-rays taken several days ago on Olsen's foot came back negative and he was able to practice on a limited basis but he is still experiencing soreness. One factor that may cause the Panthers to deactivate Olsen is the fact that this game will be played on artificial turf but the following three contests will be on natural grass surfaces. Ed Dickson is expected to get the starting nod this afternoon and should be viewed as a midrange TE2 in most fantasy formats.

Panthers | Optimism about Greg Olsen's status

Fri, 01 Dec 2017 18:12:10 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is listed as questionable to face the New Orleans Saints in Week 13, but head coach Ron Rivera said he is optimistic that Olsen will be able to play.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen returned from an eight-game absence last week, only to aggravate the injury. Even if he does suit up, the chance he won't be able to play the entire game makes him a risky start.

Panthers | Greg Olsen questionable for Week 13

Fri, 01 Dec 2017 15:21:16 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) did not practice Friday, Dec. 1, and he is officially listed as questionable for the Week 13 game with the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen returned from a lengthy absence last week, but aggravated his foot injury on the artificial surface at MetLife Stadium against the Jets. Unfortunately for Olsen, the Saints also play on an artificial surface, so he is a very risky fantasy play this week.

Panthers | Greg Olsen out of practice Thursday

Thu, 30 Nov 2017 08:35:06 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is out of practice Thursday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: It's possible he could practice Friday and be ready to face the New Orleans Saints, but it would make sense for the team to treat this very conservatively. Even if he plays, he's likely to be limited in some capacity. Find a plug-and-play option this week.

Panthers | Greg Olsen sidelined Wednesday

Wed, 29 Nov 2017 14:01:49 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen clearly hasn't fully recovered yet and is still a little rusty from his extended hiatus. If he keeps missing practice then he could very well be headed for a doubtful status. Have Ed Dickson on ice in case Olsen doesn't improve.

Panthers | Greg Olsen good to go

Mon, 27 Nov 2017 12:13:06 -0800

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was deemed to be OK following a reevaluation on his injured foot.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Olsen will be able to take the field this week, but he could be on a snap count again if the Panthers don't want to risk him re-aggravating the foot. As of now, Olsen is a borderline TE1.

Panthers | Greg Olsen might be ready in Week 13

Sun, 26 Nov 2017 18:21:18 -0800

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was pulled in the third quarter of the Week 12 game against the New York Jets after experiencing soreness in his surgically repaired right foot. The artificial surface at Met Life Stadium might have played a part in the soreness. "It got a little sore there. Went back out, tried to play a little bit and then we just thought it'd be best to live to play another day," Olsen said Sunday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately for Olsen and his fantasy owners the Panthers will be on another artificial surface in Week 13 in New Orleans before three straight home outings on grass from Week 14 through Week 16.

Panthers | Greg Olsen will not return

Sun, 26 Nov 2017 12:30:57 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) left the team's Week 12 game because of a foot injury and will not return.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Olsen's injury is related to the one that sent him to the Reserve/Injured list, so owners should look for an update on his status. Olsen is a must-start option when he is healthy, but owners will need other options available in case this injury keep him sidelined for an extended period of time.

Panthers | Greg Olsen may receive 30 snaps

Sun, 26 Nov 2017 09:12:22 -0800

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is expected to receive around 30 snaps against the New York Jets in Week 12, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen likely will be eased back into the passing game since he has missed most of the season because of a foot injury. Owners may need to lower expectations this week, but Olsen should still be a starting option in all fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Greg Olsen to see limited snaps

Sun, 26 Nov 2017 07:08:45 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen will ideally be involved in half of the team's offensive snaps for Week 12's game versus the New York Jets, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen will be active for the first time since Week 2 but makes a risky fantasy option this afternoon due to the limited number of snaps. He should only be started this week by owners desperate for help at the tight end position.

Panthers | Greg Olsen set to return

Fri, 24 Nov 2017 10:15:02 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Nov. 24. WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Ron Rivera told Panthers.com the plan is ease Olsen back in "judiciously," so owners would be advised to sit him this week in fantasy. Regardless, it appears he will have at least one or two full games under his belt before most owners have to decide if he will be a critical part of their fantasy playoff run or not.

Panthers | Greg Olsen practices again Wednesday

Wed, 22 Nov 2017 09:37:16 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) participated in practice again Wednesday, Nov. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is still on the Reserve/Injured list, but he is a good bet to come off and see his first action since Week 2 against the New York Jets this weekend. Although it is always risky to start a player in fantasy after such a long layoff, Olsen should have a clear path to five or more targets right away and could emerge as Cam Newton's primary downfield target sooner than later. Owners desperate for a tight end should start him if/when he is cleared.

Mon, 20 Nov 2017 15:39:48 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) said he expects to play against the New York Jets as long as he does not suffer a setback during practice this week.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen has miss most of the season because of his foot injury but is one of the better tight ends in the NFL when he is healthy. He can be a starting option in all fantasy leagues this week, but owners may want to lower their expectations a bit.

Mon, 30 Oct 2017 16:40:10 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) said he is looking at Week 12 against the New York Jets as a possible return date. He said he will slowly return to practice over the next few weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen probably will be limited during practice over the next few weeks but should play in the final six games of the season if he does not suffer a setback. He will be one of the top targets in the passing game when he returns and will be a No. 1 fantasy tight end.

Panthers | Greg Olsen making progress

Mon, 30 Oct 2017 10:36:47 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is expected to test his foot with trainers either Monday, Oct. 30, or Tuesday, Oct. 31. He is eligible to return to practice this week and can resume playing in Week 12 if all goes well.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen has the potential to be a significant addition in leagues in which he was dropped should he be able to return as expected, as the tight end position has been a sore subject for many fantasy owners this year. Ed Dickson got off to a fast start in Olsen's absence, but he has bottomed out as of late. Cam Newton has struggled in three straight games as well, so having his Pro Bowl tight end back should help him as well. Olsen should be treated as a midrange TE1 when he returns.

Panthers | Greg Olsen likely to practice next week

Tue, 24 Oct 2017 09:14:38 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) expects to practice when he is eligible to do so next week after going on the Reserve/Injured list after suffering a broken right foot in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen will eligible to return to game action following the Panthers' bye in Week 11, and it appears he is on track to do so, although foot injuries are notoriously tricky and his kind (Jones' fracture) often require a second operation. Nevertheless, Olsen should be stashed wherever possible, as he is one of the few consistent forces at his position when healthy.

Mon, 02 Oct 2017 14:30:38 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) is no longer wearing a boot on his surgically repaired foot and said his recovery is going well.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is currently on the Reserve/Injured list but likely will be activated at some point during the second half of the season. He will be a weekly fantasy starter when he returns from the injury.

Panthers | Greg Olsen goes to IR

Tue, 19 Sep 2017 11:33:04 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 19, after having surgery on his broken foot Monday, Sept. 18. Specifically, Olsen broke the fifth metatarsal on his right foot and had a screw inserted to repair the fracture, according to Carolina's head athletic trainer.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tremendous loss for an already struggling offense. Ed Dickson will take over as the starting tight end, but his fantasy value doesn't hold a candle to Olsen's. Don't add him to replace Olsen unless you're desperate.

Panthers | Greg Olsen had surgery Monday

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 08:50:07 -0700

Panthers | Greg Olsen to have surgery

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 08:49:36 -0700

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) will undergo surgery on his broken right foot and miss six to eight weeks. The team will decide after surgery whether he'll be placed on the Reserve/Injured list designated to return.

Fantasy Tip: If you have roster space, hold on to him and stash him for the stretch run. Ed Dickson had two grabs for 26 yards in his absence, but he doesn't have much fantasy appeal. Expect Kelvin Benjamin to see more targets with Cam Newton's security blanket out. K-Benj is a good WR2 to have.

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 05:32:05 -0700

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) figures to miss six games and could go on the Reserve/Injured list designated to return. It's not a season-ending injury.

Fantasy Tip: Ed Dickson had two catches for 26 yards in the game, and he has very little roster appeal. Kelvin Benjamin should see more looks in Olsen's absence as a WR2.

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 13:45:55 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) said he suffered a broken foot during the team's Week 2 game.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen probably will be a candidate for the Reserve/Injured list depending on his timetable, so owners will need to look for other options at the position. Ed Dickson likely will take over as Carolina's starting tight end but should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 11:51:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) will not return to the team's Week 2 game because of his foot injury.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to look for an update on Olsen's status after the game to see if he will miss more time. Olsen is one of the best tight ends in the NFL and is a must-start option when he is healthy, but owners may want to look for other options in case Olsen misses time.

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 20:17:40 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen was limited to just two catches for 18 yards on four targets in Week 1 at San Francisco.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is starting out in a bit of a hole as he tries for his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season. Despite the slow day, he'll be just fine for fantasy owners going forward. He'll look to get back on track in Week 2 against the visiting Bills.

Panthers | Greg Olsen incentives increase

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen had $2 million added to his incentives Thursday, Aug. 31, according to a source. The incentives are based on catches, receiving yards, average yards per catch and other achievements.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is an elite NFL tight end, tallying more than 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons. His three touchdowns in 2017 left something to be desired, but Olsen should be one of the first three tight ends taken in fantasy drafts.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen's agent has talked with interim general manager Marty Hurney about a possible contract extension for Olsen, but no deal is imminent at this point, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is looking for a new deal but will probably have to wait until next offseason for a deal. He has been one of the most consistent tight ends in the NFL and should be a No. 1 fantasy tight end in all fantasy leagues.

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 18:42:11 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen is one of the players the team is "looking at" an extension for, general manager Marty Hurney said Thursday, Aug. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen has one of the highest floors of any tight end and should be one of the first players at his position selected in all formats.

Panthers | Greg Olsen to play out his deal

Tue, 25 Jul 2017 07:54:56 -0700

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen said he plans to play out his contract. He said he didn't want to add to the distractions for the team after general manager Dave Gettleman was fired.

Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old has three straight 1,000-yard seasons and averaged 80.3 catches per season. His value took a hit last year when his three touchdowns were half of what he scored in each of the previous three seasons. A healthy Cam Newton should bring that back up to the norm, and Olsen is a high-end TE1 just devoid of much upside.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen will report to training camp on time Tuesday, July 25, even though he considered holding out because he wants a new contract, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen has been one of the best tight ends in the NFL over the last several years and will continue to be a big part of the team's passing game. He will be a solid No. 1 fantasy tight end for owners as long as he is healthy.

Panthers | Greg Olsen can make history in 2017

Tue, 18 Jul 2017 15:38:39 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen can become just the fourth tight end ever to gain at least 1,000 yards in four seasons. Not only that, but achieving 1,000 yards this season would mark the fourth straight year in which Olsen has reached that mark.

Fantasy Tip: Aside from Rob Gronkowski, Olsen is arguably the best tight end in the NFL. He's certainly the most consistent at his position. View him as an early- to midround pick.

Panthers | Still no decision made Greg Olsen's contract

Sat, 15 Jul 2017 08:04:50 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen and his agent still have yet to make a decision regarding whether or not Wilson will show up for training camp. Olsen is due to make $6.5 million in each the next two seasons and ranks 12th in guaranteed money, making the three-time Pro Bowler one of the more underpaid tight ends in the league.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is also 32 years old, so he is likely looking at his final opportunity to land a big contract. It would be a surprise if he holds out, just like it would be a minor shock if the team didn't try to appease him in some way. Assuming he reports to camp in time, Olsen needs to be considered among the top-five tight ends in fantasy yet again.
