Twins | Ricky Nolasco gets knocked around

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 21:06:41 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco allowed seven runs and nine hits over 5 2/3 innings in a second straight loss Wednesday, June 29, against the Chicago White Sox. He also walked one and struck out five, throwing 62 of his 95 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco's ERA (5.31) and WHIP (1.38) are slightly above his career averages, and he should only be trusted in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues if you're desperate for starting pitching.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco falls to 3-5 with loss

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 16:41:45 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco took the loss Thursday, June 23, opposite the Philadelphia Phillies after surrendering four runs on 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings. He also walked four and struck out one.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco had actually been pitching well as of late before today's outing, with four quality starts in his past five tries, but the 11-year veteran failed to keep it going opposite Philadelphia. With an ERA just south of 5.00, Nolasco is a risky play in the deepest of leagues.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco has better outing

Wed, 18 May 2016 16:09:38 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco fell to 1-2 after losing his start Wednesday, May 18, against the Detroit Tigers. He went five innings and surrendered four runs (two earned) on nine hits and a walk, while striking out six.

Fantasy Tip: There's nothing spectacular to take away from this outing, but it was a step in the right direction for Nolasco, who had given up at least four runs in each of his prior four starts. Even so, it's hard to trust the veteran right now, and as a result, he's really only someone to implement mostly in AL-only leagues at this point in time.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco roughed up in Chitown

Fri, 06 May 2016 22:19:26 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco allowed seven runs - five earned - and nine hits with two walks and six strikeouts over five innings in a loss Friday, May 6, against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco had been sailing along pretty nicely, but he just didn't have it in this one. Consider this just one poor start and don't give up on him in fantasy until this becomes a regular happening.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco fans nine batters

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 22:49:02 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco allowed four earned runs, five hits and no walks with nine strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday, April 26, against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco has piled up 24 strikeouts over 27 2/3 innings with a 0.90 WHIP through four outings. He has re-emerged as a useful fantasy option in AL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats, and he is a value play in DFS.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco dominates Brewers

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 15:25:59 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco allowed a single run on five hits and a walk while striking out seven batters during the Twins' 8-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday, April 21.

Fantasy Tip: Through his first two seasons with the Twins, Nolasco posted a 5.64 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 36 games, so don't overreact to his strong start to 2016 in mixed leagues. Nolasco currently has 15 strikeouts through 20 1/3 innings with a 2.66 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP over his three 2016 starts. Even with his previous struggles, AL-only owners should take note of Nolasco's start.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco set for Sunday

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 13:31:41 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco (undisclosed) threw an extended bullpen session without issue Thursday, April 7, and he is on track to start against the Kansas City Royals Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco missed four months with an ankle injury last season, but there haven't been any reported health concerns since. Perhaps, the Twins were just being extra cautious leading into this start. Nonetheless, Nolasco has posted an ERA over 5.00 each of the last two seasons and should be viewed as a low-end option in all fantasy formats.

Twins | Ervin Santana to start Friday

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 19:48:32 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana had his next outing moved up to Friday, April 8, against the Kansas City Royals, because his opening day start was cut short due to rain. SP Tommy Milone will start Saturday, April 9, with SP Ricky Nolasco pitching Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: This is welcome news to fantasy owners who have Santana in seasonal leagues with weekly lineup changes. He threw 39 pitches while allowing two hits and two walks over two scoreless innings versus the Baltimore Orioles Monday, April 4.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco wins fifth spot

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 07:41:07 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco won the fifth starter spot as SP Tyler Duffey was optioned to Class AAA Rochester Tuesday, March 29.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco is merely an AL-only depth starter at this stage.

Twins | Minnesota fifth-starter job up for grabs

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 13:54:55 -0700

Minnesota Twins SPs Tyler Duffey and Ricky Nolasco will both pitch Monday, March 28, which will likely be their finals bids to earn the job as the fifth starter. Manager Paul Molitor wants to have the roster trimmed to 25 before Friday, April 1.

Fantasy Tip: Duffey is the arm to own in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but it doesn't mean he'll win the job. He posted a 3.10 ERA and struck out 53 batters through 58 innings over 10 starts in the second half last year. Nolasco has a career 4.54 ERA and is entering his age-33 season. At best, the veteran hurler is a low-end starter in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.
