Cardinals | Brandon Moss heating up

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 10:45:33 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss hit a 454-foot home run off Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer in the loss Wednesday, Sept. 2, giving him two homers in as many at-bats after he hit the walkoff home run Tuesday, Sept. 1. Moss now has four long balls in seven games and is 9-for-18 and has raised his average to .239 after starting slow after being acquired at the trade deadline. After offseason hip surgery, he hit only .217 with 15 home runs in 94 games for the Cleveland Indians, and he has struggled to find his groove at the plate all year. A short time on the bench with St. Louis not too long ago allowed him to strengthen his legs and find a rhythm with his swing.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps Moss' ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) resurgence has coincided with recent rest and the fact that he's finally fully healthy this season. It could be too late for fantasy owners, but adding Moss now could push you over the top in the power category in the final month. There's a good chance he's still available in many leagues. As we always say, it never hurts to ride the hot hand on FantasyScore, either.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds sitting Wednesday

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 15:09:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds (wrist) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 2. 1B Brandon Moss moves to first base and is hitting fifth against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer, while OF Tommy Pham draws into the lineup and is starting in center field and hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Moss ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) hit a walkoff home run last night and has been heating up at the plate for the Cards, but even a matchup against the struggling Scherzer should have you tempering your expectations that he'll remain hot. Pham ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is intriguing at his price, but a matchup against Scherzer should scare most off.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss homers in win

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 00:34:50 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss homered for the second time in a St. Louis uniform Sunday, Aug. 30, as his team beat the San Francisco Giants 7-5.

Fantasy Tip: Moss ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is showing signs of warming up after a lackluster start at the plate in St. Louis. He's hitting .222 in August but .278 within the past week. As long as the bat is heating up and the FantasyScore price remains low, Moss may be a decent play. Of note: He has hits in his last four games.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds returns to lineup

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 11:40:06 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B/OF Mark Reynolds will bat sixth and play first base against San Francisco Giants SP Chris Heston Sunday, Aug. 30. 1B/OF Brandon Moss, who played first base Saturday, Aug. 29, will start in left field and bat seventh Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is 7-for-20 at the plate over the last seven days, making him worthy of FantasyScore consideration if you want an inexpensive option at first base this afternoon. On the other hand, Moss ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is only batting .216 this month and should be avoided.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss playing first base

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 11:04:51 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B/OF Brandon Moss is batting eighth and starting at first base against San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong Saturday, Aug. 29. 1B/OF Mark Reynolds is not in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Moss ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is batting just .208 this month and is hitless in four career at-bats versus Vogelsong. Better first base options are available in FantasyScore this afternoon.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward sitting out vs. Giants

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 15:58:49 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is not in the starting lineup Friday, August 28. OF Brandon Moss draws into the lineup and is batting seventh against San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Heyward ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. He owns a .318/.392/.482 slash line with 14 runs, eight extra-base hits, 13 RBI and five stolen bases over his past 25 games. He was dealing with a hamstring injury last week, so it might just be an opportune time to rest him. Moss ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) hit his first home run with the Cardinals Thursday, Aug. 27, so perhaps it is the sign of things to come. He is a viable flier at FantasyScore Friday.

Cardinals | Stephen Piscotty sitting out

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 16:20:43 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Stephen Piscotty is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa Thursday, Aug. 27. OF Brandon Moss will start in left field and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Piscotty ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return soon. Moss ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is hitting only .190 with one RBI this month and probably is not a great starting option.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward starting now

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 16:34:21 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward (hamstring) is in the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 21, after initially not being listed. He is starting in right field and hitting cleanup against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner. OF Brandon Moss comes out of the original lineup.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals wouldn't be putting Heyward ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) back into the lineup tonight if he wasn't healthy, so he's safe to return to starting lineups in all formats, including at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss starting in LF

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 13:40:53 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss is starting in left field and hitting seventh against San Francisco Giants SP Chris Heston Monday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Moss ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) and Peter Bourjos ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) could platoon in the outfield with Randal Grichuk on the DL. Moss has notable power but has just five hits in 34 at-bats since joining St. Louis at the trade deadline. He's a weaker option on FantasyScore right now until he shows signs of life with his new club.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds starting against Miami

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 14:44:11 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds is starting at first base and hitting eighth against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Friday, Aug. 14. 1B Brandon Moss is starting on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Brandon Moss has been slumping badly since his arrival in trade deadline deal from Cleveland, so Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) starts against a righty. Reynolds has power to spare but swings and misses often (93 K's in 284 at-bats). He's a low-end first base option on FantasyScore, especially while sitting at the bottom of the lineup.
