49ers | Reggie Bush not retiring

Mon, 08 Feb 2016 07:48:11 -0800

San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent RB Reggie Bush (knee) said he will not retire this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Bush's fantasy appeal has really fallen off a cliff, but he's still a PPR asset in the right situation.

49ers | Reggie Bush had meniscus surgery

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 12:58:09 -0800

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (knee) said he had surgery to fix a torn meniscus and not on his anterior or medial collateral ligaments in his knee. Bush's season is over.

Fantasy Tip: That'll mean that Bush's recovery timeline likely won't be as extensive, but given his already lengthy injury history, owners in traditional fantasy leagues in 2016 won't need to have Bush on their radars.

49ers | Surgery successful for Reggie Bush

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 14:24:07 -0800

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush's (knee) surgery on his torn medial collateral ligament went well Tuesday, Nov. 3. Bush has already been placed on the Reserve/Injured list and is out for the year.

Fantasy Tip: As has been stated already, Pierre Thomas is worth a pickup in deeper PPR leagues for teams who are shallow at running back.

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 13:40:05 -0800

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Nov. 3, with a torn medial collateral ligament. Bush is out for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: The 49ers have already signed Pierre Thomas to essentially take over Bush's role, primarily in the passing game. Thomas is worth a pickup in deeper PPR leagues.

49ers | Pierre Thomas replacing Reggie Bush

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 11:52:18 -0800

San Francisco 49ers RB Pierre Thomas is essentially taking over for RB Reggie Bush (knee) as San Francisco's passing-down back. Thomas caught 45 passes last season, averaging 8.4 yards per catch.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas could be used more than people expect in order to give new starting quarterback Blaine Gabbert a safer passing outlet. If you're shallow at running back, Thomas is worth a pickup in seasonal leagues.

49ers | Reggie Bush has torn MCL

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 18:13:31 -0800

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (knee) suffered a torn medial collateral ligament during the team's Week 8 game and will undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to source. Bush's anterior cruciate ligament was not damaged.

Fantasy Tip: Kendall Gaskins could be the starting running back for the 49ers in Week 9 since Carlos Hyde (foot) and Mike Davis (hand) are dealing with injuries. Owners will need to keep an eye out on practice this week to see which running backs will be able to play.

49ers | Reggie Bush may have torn ACL

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 14:15:39 -0800

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (knee) is feared to have a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He will have an MRI to confirm the diagnosis.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is likely done for the season if that's the case. With Carlos Hyde out with a broken foot, look for players like Mike Davis and Kendall Gaskins to split carries for the time being. At this point, it won't make a difference because the 49ers running game is battered and bruised.

49ers | Reggie Bush will not return

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 12:18:44 -0800

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (knee) will not return to Week 8's game against the St. Louis Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) injured his left knee after slipping on concrete on the sidelines following a punt return. The team is now using second-year WR Bruce Ellington ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) for returns, while RBs Mike Davis ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Kendall Gaskins appear to be in line for extra carries as a result of Bush's injury.

49ers | Reggie Bush out of the game

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 10:55:40 -0800

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (knee) suffered a left knee injury after he slipped on concrete on the sidelines during the team's Week 8 game. He was carted to the locker room and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Mike Davis and Kendall Gaskins will handle the running back snaps while Bush is out of the lineup. Owners will need to look for an update on Bush's status after the game to see if he will miss extended time.

49ers | Reggie Bush to start against Rams

Fri, 30 Oct 2015 14:53:20 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush will receive the start against the St. Louis Rams in Week 8 with RB Carlos Hyde (foot) ruled out. Bush will share carries with rookie RB Mike Davis. RB Jarryd Hayne is also more likely to be active this week after sitting in Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) and the others are likely to struggle on Sunday against a much superior defensive front. This is not the matchup to get cute and use Bush in a flex spot on FantasyScore.

49ers | Niner RBs split the load

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 06:17:22 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde played 20 of the 46 offensive plays Thursday, Oct. 22, while RB Reggie Bush played 17 snaps.

Fantasy Tip: The split is more indicative of the team being down 17-0 at halftime rather than Bush having a larger timeshare with Hyde. With the 49ers' offense is such disarray right now, Hyde almost needs to have a good matchup to use on FantasyScore after his 40-yard performance in Week 7.

49ers | Reggie Bush listed as probable

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 15:23:16 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21, and is listed as probable for the Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Oct. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) should serve as the primary backup at running back and could also see time in the passing game. Bush has struggled with injuries this season and may not be the best option for owners on FantasyScore.

49ers | Reggie Bush practices in full

Tue, 20 Oct 2015 19:33:25 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) was a full participant in practice Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could play a big role if Carlos Hyde ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) cannot go. Bush and Jarryd Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) would see a bulk of the carries if Hyde is inactive.

49ers | Reggie Bush limited in practice

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 21:29:15 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) was listed as a limited participant in practice Monday, Oct. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Bush ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) can play, he has a very unfavorable matchup against a wounded, yet still very dangerous Seattle Seahawks team.

49ers | Reggie Bush may play in Week 7

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 11:49:50 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) appears to have a good chance to play in the Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Oct. 22.

Fantasy Tip: The team is optimistic about Bush's chances, so owners will need to monitor his practice participation during the week. Bush has been dealing with injuries this season and would be a risky option for fantasy owners.

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 12:21:14 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) has been declared inactive for the Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Jarryd Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Mike Davis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) likely will serve as the backups at running backs but should not be options for fantasy owners.

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 15:58:26 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 16, and is listed as doubtful for the Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) probably will be inactive after missing three straight days of practice. Jarryd Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Mike Davis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) should serve as the backup running backs but neither is a great option for fantasy owners.

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 18:44:50 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has played sparingly between injuries this season, and shouldn't be used in Week 6 at FantasyScore if he does play.

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 17:35:00 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) was not able to finish the team's Week 5 game because of the injury, and his status for Week 6 is uncertain at this point. Owners probably should look for other options to use.

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 18:14:15 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) left the Week 5 game against the New York Giants due to a calf injury and his return is questionable.

Fantasy Tip: With Bush leaving, and Carlos Hyde limping off in the third quarter, the 49ers are down to Jarryd Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) as their top back.

49ers | Reggie Bush not involved in return

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 19:55:16 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) had one carry for no gain and one catch for six yards in a 17-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: After missing most of the first three games, Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) was not a factor in his return. His role should at least grow on passing downs moving forward, but given the state of the San Francisco offense, his production is likely to remain limited.

49ers | Reggie Bush on track

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 15:30:47 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) practiced in full all week and is probable for Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: The Packers have been more efficient at stopping the run so far this year. Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) remains the backup to Carlos Hyde and hasn't played since Week 1, making him a weak running back pick on FantasyScore.

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 17:47:59 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) appears on track to play in Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers and likely will be the primary backup at running back. Bush probably will not see a lot of touches in the game and is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 17:04:43 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) appears to be on track to return after a two-week absence, so owners should keep an eye out on his progress. Bush probably would see some snaps if he is active for Week 4 but may not be the best fantasy option.

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 25, and has been ruled out for the Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Jarryd Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Mike Davis ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) will serve as the backup running backs in Week 3 but neither should be a starting option for fantasy owners.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will not be able to play against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. Jarryd Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Mike Davis ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) likely will serve as the backups during the game but neither player should be a fantasy option.

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 17:08:54 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) missed the team's Week 2 game and probably will not play against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 if he is not able to practice this week. Owners probably should avoid him this week.

49ers | Reggie Bush's status unknown

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 16:02:59 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) is "still working through it" this week, according to head coach Jim Tomsula. Bush's status for Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals is unknown.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will likely be questionable this weekend, but keep an eye out on his practice status this week. After missing last week and against a tough Cardinals defense, the smart play on FantasyScore would be to avoid Bush altogether.

49ers | Reggie Bush ready to return

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 10:29:28 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) is looking forward to getting back on the field this week.

Fantasy Tip: That doesn't mean a whole lot to fantasy owners. It's unknown how much Bush ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will practice this week or if he can even return in Week 3 to face the Arizona Cardinals. Even if he does play he could be limited and is a weak option for daily gamers against a strong Arizona defense.

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 10:49:18 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) will not travel to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2, according to head coach Jim Tomsula.

Fantasy Tip: That means Jarryd Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will receive what's left from Carlos Hyde ($5,700, 11.4% of cap), who figures to be a workhorse. Hayne isn't worth consideration on FantasyScore, but Hyde is a very good RB2.

49ers | Reggie Bush sits out

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 16:26:34 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Bush ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) probably will miss the Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers because of the injury, so owners may want to avoid him. Carlos Hyde ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) could see more playing time and is probably the only running back on the roster that owners should consider using.

49ers | Reggie Bush is week-to-week

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 16:44:33 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) is considered week-to-week with a calf strain, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The 49ers will probably ease Bush back into things, especially considering his injury history. Carlos Hyde is their featured running back, but Jarryd Hayne could see increased playing time. Hyde ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is looking to maintain the momentum he gained from a 168-yard, two-touchdown game in Week 1. He should be strongly considered for FantasyScore starting lineups.

49ers | Reggie Bush will play if he can

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 15:50:22 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush's (calf) status is still up in the air for Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers after straining his calf in Week 1. Bush did not suffer a tear, however, according to a source. Head coach Jim Tomsula said if Bush can play then he will play. Tomsula also said they don't want a calf strain that can be taken care of in four days to turn into a six-week injury without proper treatment.

Fantasy Tip: Bush ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is a risky play this week on FantasyScore. If he does play he could be limited. Plus, he would still play behind Carlos Hyde. He is relatively cheap, but production isn't guaranteed.

49ers | Reggie Bush avoids serious injury

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 15:13:29 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) has avoided serious injury after straining his calf Monday, Sept. 14, against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Bush will be able to play this weekend, but if he does he could be limited. Carlos Hyde ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is the 49ers' go-to running back anyway. It would be difficult not to consider rostering him against the Pittsburgh Steelers on FantasyScore this week after his stellar performance in Week 1.

49ers | Jarryd Hayne plays backup

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 12:18:21 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jarryd Hayne was thrust into backup running back duties in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. RB Reggie Bush (calf) left the game with a strained calf, leaving Hayne as the only active backup behind RB Carlos Hyde. Hayne was also supplanted as the 49ers' punt returner by WR Bruce Ellington after Hayne muffed his first punt return.

Fantasy Tip: Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) isn't a real good start on FantasyScore against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

49ers | Reggie Bush has strained calf

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 09:49:39 -0700

Updating an earlier report, San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) suffered a calf strain Monday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: There's no update on his status for Week 2, but Carlos Hyde went off for 168 yards in the game. Hyde ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) will likely have a long leash and make Bush ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) less of a factor. Hyde is a decent RB2 on FantasyScore against the Steelers. Wait and see on Bush's status.

49ers | Reggie Bush injured calf

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 05:23:58 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (calf) left the game with a left calf injury Monday, Sept. 14. Head coach Jim Tomsula said it didn't appear serious, but the team would re-evaluate Bush this week.

Fantasy Tip: Bush's absence helped Carlos Hyde go off for 168 yards on 26 carries so Reggie may not have a big chunk of carries waiting for him. Hyde ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) will be an RB2 on FantasyScore against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2.

49ers | Reggie Bush to the locker room

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 19:53:45 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush (leg) left the Week 1 game against the Minnesota Vikings in the first quarter due to an apparent lower leg injury. He hobbled off the field with a left leg injury and he was carter off to the locker room. He is questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: With Bush on the sidelines, it means more responsibilities for Carlos Hyde ($5,300, 10.6% of cap). Jarryd Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Bruce Miller ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could also see more work.

49ers | Will Jarryd Hayne make active roster?

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 09:47:19 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jarryd Hayne does not yet know if he'll be active for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, and head coach Jim Tomsula has been mum on whether Hayne will make the active roster on game day. Tomsula said the Niners could use more than one return man in the game against the Vikings. Hayne and WRs Bruce Ellington and DeAndrew White each returned punts and kickoffs in the preseason, and RB Reggie Bush was back for two punts in the third preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap), a former rugby star, was very impressive in the preseason returning kicks, and his versatility at running back could make the difference. However, until he proves that he will consistently be a returner for SF, he has very little value in fantasy leagues. He's only worth considering in leagues that reward points for return yardage, too.

49ers | Reggie Bush the top returner

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 15:48:22 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush is listed as the top kick and punt returner in San Francisco's first released depth chart. Head coach Jim Tomsula said Bush has the skill to succeed in the return game and that he wants to be the team's returner.

Fantasy Tip: Whether Bush remains in the starting returner position is yet to be seen, but it doesn't sound like the 49ers are bluffing about it. Bush will have more value in leagues that reward return points. He should be viewed as a speculative RB3 in PPR leagues.

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 13:28:22 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush will not play in the preseason opener against the Houston Texans Saturday, Aug. 15. Head coach Jim Tomsula said Bush isn't playing because he doesn't need to see him play.

Fantasy Tip: It's not unusual at all for key players to sit out at least the first preseason contest. It doesn't sound like Bush is injured, so there's nothing to be concerned about here. Bush will play behind Carlos Hyde, but he has RB4 upside in PPR leagues.

49ers | Reggie Bush flashes receiving skills

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 20:36:03 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush caught three passes out of the backfield during 11-on-11 drills Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Bush will likely have trouble seeing the field outside of passing situations, and at 30, he isn't the elusive back he once was, either. Injuries crept up again last season, too. Still, all is not lost with Bush. He'll have RB3 value in PPR leagues, and is worth drafting for a bench spot in standard formats.

49ers | Reggie Bush being rested

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 20:36:13 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush was held out of training camp for the second day in a row Sunday, Aug. 2. "I'm not going to wait to see Reggie tired and (then) give him a break," head coach Jim Tomsula said. "He's been doing this for a long time. Our goal is to not get Reggie tired. He's in shape."

Fantasy Tip: Bush should make a solid RB3 in points-per-reception formats, but with Carlos Hyde likely handling a bulk of the between-the-tackle duties, Bush's exact workload remains to be seen.

Saints | C.J. Spiller a good fit in New Orleans?

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 17:52:44 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller has a perfect skill-set for head coach Sean Payton's system, which relies on getting the ball to players in space, according Chris Wesseling of NFL.com. Wesseling believes Spiller is significantly more talented than RB Reggie Bush and RB Darren Sproles, who both thrived in Payton's system.

Fantasy Tip: Pass-catching backs like Spiller have enjoyed a lot of success in Payton's system. He has a good chance to slide into RB2 territory in PPR formats, and he should make a solid flex option in standard leagues.

49ers | Reggie Bush likes the offense

Sun, 31 May 2015 20:22:38 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush said he has been used in a variety of ways on offense, and he added that he likes what he has seen out of offensive coordinator Geep Chryst.

Fantasy Tip: Bush certainly has the versatility to wear many hats within the offense, but it remains to be seen exactly what role he will have and how many touches he will receive. He should be a solid RB3 in PPR leagues, but he may be more of a bench option in traditional formats.

49ers | Reggie Bush wants to return punts

Thu, 21 May 2015 16:29:10 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush has expressed his desire to the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff to return punts this season. "I told the coaches I wanted to return punts again. And they were excited about it," Bush said. "We're still working at it, still chipping away. And we're looking forward to being and all-around great special teams."

Fantasy Tip: Whether the role as a punt returner will decrease Bush's role in the 49ers' backfield remains to be seen. He'll have more value in leagues that reward returns. He has RB3 potential in point-per-reception leagues.
