Pirates | Pedro Alvarez will be DH

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 16:33:15 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Pedro Alvarez will serve as the designated hitter against Minnesota Twins SP Mike Pelfrey Tuesday, July 28, and is batting seventh in the lineup. OF Travis Ishikawa will start at first base and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is hitting only .190 this month but does have four home runs and 13 RBI during that span. Owners could use Alvarez in their lineup but could also look for better options. Ishikawa ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has not done much since joining the Pirates and should not be an option on FantasyScore.

Pirates | Pedro Alvarez sitting vs. Royals

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 13:54:50 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 22. OF Travis Ishikawa is playing first base and batting sixth against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: It is unlikely Alvarez ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) will bounce back with the high-end power he flashed during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, but it doesn't mean he isn't a solid daily option in the right matchups. Ishikawa ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) could serve as an upside source of cap relief for FantasyScore players Wednesday, especially given his spot in the order.

Pirates | Pedro Alvarez will be DH

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 13:30:19 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Pedro Alvarez will serve as the designated hitter against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Monday, July 20, and is batting sixth in the lineup. OF Travis Ishikawa will start at first base and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has struggled at the plate this season with a .159 batting average but does have seven RBI during that span. Owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options. Ishikawa ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should not be used in any fantasy leagues at this point.

Pirates | Pedro Alvarez not in the lineup

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 09:58:19 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Taylor Jungmann Sunday, July 19. OF Travis Ishikawa will start at first base and is batting fifth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is hitting only .159 this month, so he is likely receiving a day off. Ishikawa ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has only one hit in nine at-bats since joining the team and should be avoided by owners.

Pirates | Starling Marte remains out against Cards

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 13:32:38 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (oblique) is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 10. OF Travis Ishikawa is starting in left field and hitting seventh against St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Marte ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) last suited up Sunday, July 5, and this will be the fifth consecutive game he has missed. He participated in on-field activities Thursday, July 9, though. Continue to check back for updates on his status. Ishikawa ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has some upside relative to his FantasyScore salary, but he shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a risky source of savings.

Giants | Travis Ishikawa draws into lineup

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 12:15:21 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Travis Ishikawa is starting in left field and hitting eighth against San Diego Padres SP James Shields Thursday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Ishikawa was just called up yesterday to give the Giants some outfield depth after Nori Aoki (leg) landed on the DL. Ishikawa will be a very cheap daily commodity, but he should be considered a guy to avoid on FantasyScore.

Giants | Brandon Belt to play some outfield?

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 16:27:05 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt is being discussed as an option to play the outfield in the absence of OF Hunter Pence (arm) and OF Angel Pagan (back), according to manager Bruce Bochy. If Belt plays in the outfield, it opens the possibility for C Buster Posey to play more first base. Backup Cs Hector Sanchez and Andrew Susac would get more time with Posey at first. Other outfield options include 1B Travis Ishikawa, OF Juan Perez, OF Justin Maxwell, INF Matt Duffy and 3B Adam Duvall.

Fantasy Tip: Belt is already a middle-round breakout candidate, and adding outfield eligibility would only further enhance his fantasy value.

Giants | Travis Ishikawa unlikely to play OF

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 09:09:37 -0800

San Francisco Giants 1B Travis Ishikawa is unlikely to play the outfield to start the season with OF Hunter Pence (forearm) sidelined. Ishikawa has just three regular season starts in left field, and the Giants have OFs Norichika Aoki, Gregor Blanco, Juan Perez and Justin Maxwell that they can mix and match with.

Fantasy Tip: Aoki is virtually locked into an everyday role in the outfield now with Pence slated to start the year on the disabled list. Blanco probably will benefit the most with regular playing time for the first month of the season or so, but that'll make him the most valuable in NL-only leagues.

Giants | Norichika Aoki favorite for LF

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 15:09:13 -0800

San Francisco Giants OF Norichika Aoki is the favorite to be the team's starting left fielder on opening day, but he'll be battling OFs Gregor Blanco, Travis Ishikawa and Juan Perez this spring. Aoki has just 144 strikeouts in the last three seasons combined. Blanco and Perez are probably slightly better defensive options than Aoki, though.

Fantasy Tip: As the favorite to start in left field, Aoki will have late mixed-round value in 12-team fantasy baseball leagues. His power has declined slightly in recent years, so you'll be getting a scrappy player that is mainly useful as a stolen-base and on-base percentage asset.
