Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis totaled a team-high seven receptions for 76 yards on 11 targets in the Week 10 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Davis was doing a good job with fellow tight ends Jordan Reed and Niles Paul both inactive. He remains a decent low-end TE1 in fantasy leagues as long as Reed is on the shelf.

Fri, 10 Nov 2017 13:28:50 -0800

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis (hand) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 10, and is not on the injury report for Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: Davis likely will be the starting tight end this week if Jordan Reed is not able to play. He is played well when he has received playing time for the Redskins and should be considered a No. 1 fantasy tight end if he starts.

Redskins | Vernon Davis limited in practice

Wed, 08 Nov 2017 15:25:10 -0800

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis (hand) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Davis was the only healthy tight end available last week, so it could be a preservation thing. He might have been held out for portions of practice to keep him from aggravating his hand injury, as Jordan Reed and Niles Paul make their way back. Circle back around on Friday to get his official game status, and that of Reed and Paul. If Reed is healthy, Davis has lesser appeal from a fantasy perspective.

Redskins | Vernon Davis expected to be fine

Mon, 06 Nov 2017 13:22:37 -0800

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis (hand) suffered a hand contusion in Week 9, but the team is optimistic that Davis will be able to play this week.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has played well when he has been in the starting lineup and could start again if he is healthy and Jordan Reed remains sidelined. He could be a low-end No. 1 tight end next week if returns to the starting lineup in Week 10.

Redskins | Vernon Davis leads receivers in PacNW

Sun, 05 Nov 2017 20:46:17 -0800

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis posted team highs with six receptions, 72 yards and nine targets in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Davis picked up the slack with Jordan Reed and Niles Paul, the No. 1 and No. 3 tight ends, inactive. He is a solid low-end TE1 heading into Week 10 against the Vikings if Reed is again inactive.

Redskins | Vernon Davis still elusive

Fri, 07 Jul 2017 20:04:36 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis forced 13 missed tackles last year, the most by any tight end, according to Pro Football Focus.

Fantasy Tip: Davis isn't locked into a big role in Washington's passing attack, but if Jordan Reed misses time, which he has been known to do, Davis becomes a potential fantasy starter. He is one of more appealing TE2 candidates.

Redskins | Vernon Davis returning to Redskins

Wed, 08 Mar 2017 05:11:32 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent TE Vernon Davis signed a three-year, $15 million deal with the Redskins Tuesday, March 7, according to his Snapchat.

Fantasy Tip: The 33-year-old had a 44-583-2 season, which was his best tally in three years. Jordan Reed remains the guy, but he is injury prone. Davis could be a matchup play in DFS, but his season-long value is minimal as a TE2.

Redskins | Vernon Davis wants to return

Fri, 03 Mar 2017 20:46:48 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent TE Vernon Davis said he would love to re-sign with the Redskins but is letting his agent handle negotiations.

Fantasy Tip: Davis was productive as Jordan Reed's backup, and he was a borderline TE1 when Reed missed time. Reed has a long history of injuries, so Davis could be worth a spot start here and there if he ends up back in Washington.

Redskins | Washington to talk to own FAs at combine

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 12:28:12 -0800

The Washington Redskins have yet to engage in talks with any of their players with expiring contracts - a list that includes impending free agents WR Pierre Garcon, WR DeSean Jackson, TE Vernon Davis, DE Chris Baker. However, multiple sources report the Redskins expect to meet with the representatives of their impending free agents at the NFL Scouting Combine next week.

Fantasy Tip: It's a common practice for front office personnel and player reps to discuss contracts at the combine, although Washington is making an already very long week even longer by handling its business in this manner. Garcon and Jackson are each expected to command at least $9 million in their next contracts, so both players could be on different teams next season. It's a virtual certainty at least one will not come back.

Redskins | Washington would like Vernon Davis back

Sat, 21 Jan 2017 09:42:40 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent TE Vernon Davis is a player the Redskins would like to re-sign this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Davis received some starts during the season with Jordan Reed injured and finished the season with 44 catches for 583 yards and two touchdowns. He would not be a starter if he remains with the Redskins but probably would have a solid role in the passing game. Davis should be considered a No. 2 tight end in drafts next season.

Redskins | Vernon Davis talking new deal with WAS

Tue, 03 Jan 2017 17:19:26 -0800

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis is already discussing a new deal with the team.

Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old Davis had a bit of a renaissance season in 2016, recording his most catches (44) and receiving yards (583) in three years. He proved to be a valuable piece for the Redskins when the injury-prone Jordan Reed went down, so it makes sense the team would want to bring him back. However, when it comes to fantasy leagues, he'll only have notable value if and when Reed misses extended time again.

Redskins | Vernon Davis rejuvenated

Thu, 17 Nov 2016 06:40:28 -0800

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis is in the top 10 in fantasy points per game over the last five weeks in PPR leagues. Davis has 18 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in the last four games.

Fantasy Tip: Davis plays the Green Bay Packers in Week 11, and they've been in the lower half of the league in defending the position the last five weeks. Davis is a sneaky TE1 option.

Redskins | Vernon Davis finishes for 93 yards

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 12:39:37 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis caught five passes for 93 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has been a reliable receiver for the Redskins over the last three weeks and should have a role in the passing game even with Jordan Reed back in the lineup. Owners probably should consider him a No. 2 tight end at this point.

Redskins | Questionable tag for Vernon Davis

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 17:15:48 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis (groin) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 28, and is listed as questionable for Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has posted decent numbers over the last few weeks while Jordan Reed has been sidelined, but he likely will lose value with Reed expected to play. Owners should avoid Davis and look for other options.

Redskins | Limited practice for Vernon Davis

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 17:18:50 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis (groin) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has shown he can produce if given enough snaps, but he is only worth starting in Week 8 if Jordan Reed remains sidelined.

Redskins | Limited practice for Vernon Davis

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 16:40:50 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis (groin) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has played well over the last week, but his fantasy value will be determined by Jordan Reed's availability. Davis can be a low-end No. 1 tight end if Reed is ruled out but would not have much value if Reed plays.

Redskins | Vernon Davis has respectable line

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 17:51:05 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis posted six receptions for 79 yards on six targets in the Week 7 game against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Davis was filling in for the injured Jordan Reed, and he did a good job. He might be a decent bye-week replacement option in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals in London if Reed is unable to travel or play.

Redskins | Vernon Davis to draw another start

Sat, 22 Oct 2016 10:03:28 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis is expected to start the second straight game in Week 7 versus the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Davis logged 97.3 percent of the snaps last week against a Philadelphia Eagles' defense that defends the tight end very well and produced two catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. This week, he'll face a defense that has surrendered a league-high seven scores to tight ends - a fact that makes Davis an excellent spot-start and solid low-cost pivot from Rob Gronkowski in DFS.

Redskins | Vernon Davis could miss final roster

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 11:22:42 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis may not make the final roster if he does not improve as a pass-catcher and blocker, according to The Washington Post's Mike Jones. Jones currently has Davis penciled in as the No. 4 tight end in Washington.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has little fantasy relevance at this point in his career. He'll only be worth a spot start if Jordan Reed, Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen are injured at the same time.

Redskins | Vernon Davis hurt groin

Mon, 30 May 2016 12:15:38 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis (groin) tweaked his groin during organized team activities Tuesday, May 24. Davis said he will be back and ready to go again this week.

Fantasy Tip: Davis will back up Jordan Reed as long as Reed is healthy, which isn't necessarily a guarantee. His glory days have faded, though, and he won't have much fantasy value as long as he's a backup.

Redskins | Vernon Davis financials

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 08:25:25 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis' one-year deal is worth up to $2.4 million if all incentives are met. He has a base salary of $1.35 million with $1.1 million guaranteed. He can earn a $450,000 roster bonus and $100,000 in workout bonuses.

Fantasy Tip: Davis was a ghost for much of last season with a 38-395-0 line with two different teams. Jordan Reed is budding into a star and is in a contract year. It's hard to imagine Davis being much of a factor in fantasy unless Reed goes down.

Redskins | Vernon Davis signs with Redskins

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 08:50:05 -0700

Free-agent TE Vernon Davis (Broncos) agreed to terms with the Washington Redskins Thursday, March 31.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is a shell of himself and was a ghost in Denver, corralling 20 catches for 201 yards and no touchdowns in nine games. He's unlikely to be a factor in fantasy this year.

Redskins | Vernon Davis still of interest to Redskins

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 12:53:34 -0700

Free-agent TE Vernon Davis (Broncos) is still a target of the Washington Redskins, according to general manager Scot McCloughan. Davis met with Washington nearly three weeks ago.

Fantasy Tip: The Redskins are already pretty loaded at tight end with Jordan Reed and Niles Paul. Reed is coming off a career year and will start when healthy. Davis has taken his fantasy value over the hill with him, though. He should no longer be regarded as a TE1, no matter where he plays.

Redskins | Vernon Davis visiting Redskins

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 08:34:05 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Davis' fantasy torch has flamed out, but he's worth monitoring to see if he can rediscover some of what made him a fantasy asset.

Broncos | Vernon Davis can play a few more years

Sun, 06 Mar 2016 10:16:32 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Vernon Davis said he would like to play another four or five years if possible.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has not had much success over the last two seasons and finished this season with 395 yards and zero touchdowns. Davis should be able to find a job this offseason but likely will not have much fantasy value.

Broncos | Vernon Davis likely done in Denver

Sun, 28 Feb 2016 13:35:36 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Vernon Davis did not catch a single pass after Week 14 and does not appear to be in the team's 2016 plans. "I think that the coaches kind of go in different directions at different times and how things mix and we could never really get up to speed with him. … Tight end's a position we have to look at, still very fluid that we feel like we have to get better there," general manager John Elway said.

Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old Davis will likely have a cold market for his services in free agency and faces long odds in terms of being usable in fantasy again. Owen Daniels may retire, leaving Virgil Green and 2015 third-round pick Jeff Heuerman as an under-the-radar options to keep an eye on moving forward in an offense that isn't shy about using the tight end.

Broncos | Vernon Davis buried on depth chart

Tue, 19 Jan 2016 14:03:49 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis has been passed on the tight end depth chart by TEs Owen Daniels and Virgil Green, mainly after struggling with drops in Week 15 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The return of QB Peyton Manning as the starting quarterback hasn't helped, either. Davis' opportunities will continue to be limited.

Fantasy Tip: Davis doesn't have any catches or targets since the Week 15 loss to the Steelers, and he's highly unlikely to make an impact in the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.

Broncos | Vernon Davis a non-factor

Mon, 18 Jan 2016 08:42:23 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Davis isn't worth consideration on FantasyScore in the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.

Broncos | Vernon Davis' role diminishing

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 13:09:50 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis has put himself in a difficult spot because of crucial drops in recent weeks, and his playing time hasn't been helped by the fact that the Broncos have been running more of an up-tempo offense of late. TEs Owen Daniels and Virgil Green are more comfortable working at a quicker pace.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has no catches in the last two weeks and just one catch for five yards in the last three games. Daniels has clearly overtaken Davis as the go-to tight end, so you should be ignoring Davis from here on out on FantasyScore.

Broncos | Vernon Davis, Owen Daniels show well

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 22:17:29 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis posted seven receptions for 74 yards in the Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders, his best performance since joining the team. TE Owen Daniels also checked in with three grabs for 43 yards, while TE Virgil Green was blanked on just one target.

Fantasy Tip: Davis could be a solid FantasyScore value down the stretch if he performs like this on a regular basis, but his growth could be stunted if the team goes back to Peyton Manning in Week 15 once he is healthy. Stay tuned.

Broncos | Vernon Davis will play

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 11:58:57 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) is officially active for the Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) has caught 12 passes in five games since being acquired by the Broncos. Davis should receive some targets against the Raiders but is not a great fantasy option.

Broncos | Vernon Davis, Andrew Caldwell questionable

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 15:25:50 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) and WR Andre Caldwell (quadriceps) are both questionable for Week 14 against the Oakland Raiders after being limited in practice Friday, Dec. 11.

Fantasy Tip: The Raiders are a fantastic fantasy matchup for tight ends, but Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) remains a deep sleeper as long as Owen Daniels ($2,400) is stealing targets away from him. Caldwell ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has some chemistry with Brock Osweiler, but not enough to make him playable in daily games.

Broncos | Three Broncos limited Thursday

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 16:41:24 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Andre Caldwell (quadriceps) and TEs Owen Daniels (knee) and Vernon Davis (concussion) were all limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 10. Caldwell and Daniels have been limited the past two days, while Davis returns after sitting out Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Caldwell ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has two touchdowns on the season despite hauling in just 10 catches. He's more intriguing with Brock Osweiler under center but remains a very deep FantasyScore sleeper. Daniels ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) and Davis ($2,400) often cannabalize each other and are hard to predict on a weekly basis. It's best to avoid them.

Broncos | Vernon Davis ready to play

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 15:10:42 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) will be ready to play against the Oakland Raiders in Week 14 after being cleared from the concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: While the Raiders are one of the best matchups for opposing tight ends, it's too hard to predict which tight end will have the better game for Denver, Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) or Owen Daniels ($2,400). Daniels is probably the safer option, but both remain dart throws as deep sleepers.

Broncos | Vernon Davis cleared

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 12:21:32 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) was cleared to practice Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) had just two catches for 25 yards last week and continues to split time with Owen Daniels ($2,400), making it hard to rely on either in daily formats. The Oakland Raiders are an excellent matchup for tight ends, but Davis and Daniels remain nothing more than deep sleepers.

Broncos | Vernon Davis in concussion protocol

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 15:45:25 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) and LB Danny Trevathan (concussion) remain in the concussion protocol, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) remains very iffy for this weekend against the Oakland Raiders. He's already a low-end tight end play each week, so avoid him. That makes Owen Daniels ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) more attractive as a deep sleeper, though, especially if Davis sits out. The Raiders are really bad at defending tight ends.

Broncos | Vernon Davis suffers concussion

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 16:25:47 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) left the Week 12 game against the San Diego Chargers due to concussion and he was unable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Davis hasn't been much of a factor, as he is still trying to learn the offense and jell with his second quarterback in less than a month. Avoid him for FantasyScore purposes, even when he is healthy.

Broncos | Owen Daniels leads Denver TEs

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 22:50:15 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Owen Daniels had five receptions for 48 yards on six targets in the Week 12 game against the New England Patriots, while TE Vernon Davis had just two catches for 10 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Daniels is, by far, the better FantasyScore option among the two tight ends. Davis has a handicap, as he came over and had to learn a new offense, and then Peyton Manning went down and V.D. had to adjust to a second quarterback in less than a month.

Broncos | Vernon Davis, Osweiler have chemistry

Sat, 28 Nov 2015 10:50:19 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis said he felt chemistry with QB Brock Osweiler from the first day he joined Denver. They were both playing with the second team at the time.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) was targeted six times in Osweiler's first start of the season last week. Davis caught all of them for 68 yards. Davis has turned fantasy relevant again since joining Denver, and he's a good start on FantasyScore in Week 12.

Comment (0) | Share: Tweet!Share on Facebook | Source: The Denver Post - Cameron Wolfe

Broncos | Denver used more two-TE sets

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 15:27:54 -0800

The Denver Broncos used multiple tight end sets on 83.8% of their Week 11 plays with QB Brock Osweiler under center as opposed to using three-wide receiver sets 60% of the time with QB Peyton Manning playing. TE Vernon Davis was more involved as a result, and the Broncos ground game was successful.

Fantasy Tip: There's no question that Davis ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) becomes much more intriguing with Osweiler playing, and the tight end had his best game of the season (six catches, 68 yards) against the Chicago Bears. However, a Week 12 matchup against the New England Patriots won't be easy, meaning Davis should still be considered much more of a sleeper daily play at the position.

Broncos | Vernon Davis to be more involved?

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 10:24:31 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis was confused by his role in Week 10 against the Kansas City Chiefs, as he played 35 snaps but had only two catches for 19 yards. His lack of production last week was largely a result of QB Peyton Manning's struggles. With QB Brock Osweiler starting in Week 11, the Broncos will look to establish the run, which means Davis and the other tight ends should be more of a factor in the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: One of Davis' ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) catches came from Osweiler late in the game last week. Osweiler's stronger arm will allow Denver to stretch the field more often, and combined with Davis' excecptional speed for a tight end, the two could work well together. But it remains to be seen as Davis continues to learn the Broncos playbook. For now, Davis remains a low-end sleeper tight end on FantasyScore.
