Redskins | Vernon Davis financials

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 08:25:25 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Vernon Davis' one-year deal is worth up to $2.4 million if all incentives are met. He has a base salary of $1.35 million with $1.1 million guaranteed. He can earn a $450,000 roster bonus and $100,000 in workout bonuses.

Fantasy Tip: Davis was a ghost for much of last season with a 38-395-0 line with two different teams. Jordan Reed is budding into a star and is in a contract year. It's hard to imagine Davis being much of a factor in fantasy unless Reed goes down.

Redskins | Vernon Davis signs with Redskins

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 08:50:05 -0700

Free-agent TE Vernon Davis (Broncos) agreed to terms with the Washington Redskins Thursday, March 31.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is a shell of himself and was a ghost in Denver, corralling 20 catches for 201 yards and no touchdowns in nine games. He's unlikely to be a factor in fantasy this year.

Redskins | Vernon Davis still of interest to Redskins

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 12:53:34 -0700

Free-agent TE Vernon Davis (Broncos) is still a target of the Washington Redskins, according to general manager Scot McCloughan. Davis met with Washington nearly three weeks ago.

Fantasy Tip: The Redskins are already pretty loaded at tight end with Jordan Reed and Niles Paul. Reed is coming off a career year and will start when healthy. Davis has taken his fantasy value over the hill with him, though. He should no longer be regarded as a TE1, no matter where he plays.

Redskins | Vernon Davis visiting Redskins

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 08:34:05 -0800

Free-agent TE Vernon Davis (Broncos) is visiting with the Washington Redskins Thursday, March 10.

Fantasy Tip: Davis' fantasy torch has flamed out, but he's worth monitoring to see if he can rediscover some of what made him a fantasy asset.

Broncos | Vernon Davis can play a few more years

Sun, 06 Mar 2016 10:16:32 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Vernon Davis said he would like to play another four or five years if possible.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has not had much success over the last two seasons and finished this season with 395 yards and zero touchdowns. Davis should be able to find a job this offseason but likely will not have much fantasy value.

Broncos | Vernon Davis likely done in Denver

Sun, 28 Feb 2016 13:35:36 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent TE Vernon Davis did not catch a single pass after Week 14 and does not appear to be in the team's 2016 plans. "I think that the coaches kind of go in different directions at different times and how things mix and we could never really get up to speed with him. … Tight end's a position we have to look at, still very fluid that we feel like we have to get better there," general manager John Elway said.

Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old Davis will likely have a cold market for his services in free agency and faces long odds in terms of being usable in fantasy again. Owen Daniels may retire, leaving Virgil Green and 2015 third-round pick Jeff Heuerman as an under-the-radar options to keep an eye on moving forward in an offense that isn't shy about using the tight end.

Broncos | Vernon Davis buried on depth chart

Tue, 19 Jan 2016 14:03:49 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis has been passed on the tight end depth chart by TEs Owen Daniels and Virgil Green, mainly after struggling with drops in Week 15 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The return of QB Peyton Manning as the starting quarterback hasn't helped, either. Davis' opportunities will continue to be limited.

Fantasy Tip: Davis doesn't have any catches or targets since the Week 15 loss to the Steelers, and he's highly unlikely to make an impact in the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.

Broncos | Vernon Davis a non-factor

Mon, 18 Jan 2016 08:42:23 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis played one snap Sunday, Jan. 17, in the divisional round game.

Fantasy Tip: Davis isn't worth consideration on FantasyScore in the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.

Broncos | Vernon Davis' role diminishing

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 13:09:50 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis has put himself in a difficult spot because of crucial drops in recent weeks, and his playing time hasn't been helped by the fact that the Broncos have been running more of an up-tempo offense of late. TEs Owen Daniels and Virgil Green are more comfortable working at a quicker pace.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has no catches in the last two weeks and just one catch for five yards in the last three games. Daniels has clearly overtaken Davis as the go-to tight end, so you should be ignoring Davis from here on out on FantasyScore.

Broncos | Vernon Davis, Owen Daniels show well

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 22:17:29 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis posted seven receptions for 74 yards in the Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders, his best performance since joining the team. TE Owen Daniels also checked in with three grabs for 43 yards, while TE Virgil Green was blanked on just one target.

Fantasy Tip: Davis could be a solid FantasyScore value down the stretch if he performs like this on a regular basis, but his growth could be stunted if the team goes back to Peyton Manning in Week 15 once he is healthy. Stay tuned.

Broncos | Vernon Davis will play

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 11:58:57 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) is officially active for the Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) has caught 12 passes in five games since being acquired by the Broncos. Davis should receive some targets against the Raiders but is not a great fantasy option.

Broncos | Vernon Davis, Andrew Caldwell questionable

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 15:25:50 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) and WR Andre Caldwell (quadriceps) are both questionable for Week 14 against the Oakland Raiders after being limited in practice Friday, Dec. 11.

Fantasy Tip: The Raiders are a fantastic fantasy matchup for tight ends, but Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) remains a deep sleeper as long as Owen Daniels ($2,400) is stealing targets away from him. Caldwell ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has some chemistry with Brock Osweiler, but not enough to make him playable in daily games.

Broncos | Three Broncos limited Thursday

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 16:41:24 -0800

Denver Broncos WR Andre Caldwell (quadriceps) and TEs Owen Daniels (knee) and Vernon Davis (concussion) were all limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 10. Caldwell and Daniels have been limited the past two days, while Davis returns after sitting out Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Caldwell ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has two touchdowns on the season despite hauling in just 10 catches. He's more intriguing with Brock Osweiler under center but remains a very deep FantasyScore sleeper. Daniels ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) and Davis ($2,400) often cannabalize each other and are hard to predict on a weekly basis. It's best to avoid them.

Broncos | Vernon Davis ready to play

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 15:10:42 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) will be ready to play against the Oakland Raiders in Week 14 after being cleared from the concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: While the Raiders are one of the best matchups for opposing tight ends, it's too hard to predict which tight end will have the better game for Denver, Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) or Owen Daniels ($2,400). Daniels is probably the safer option, but both remain dart throws as deep sleepers.

Broncos | Vernon Davis cleared

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 12:21:32 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) was cleared to practice Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) had just two catches for 25 yards last week and continues to split time with Owen Daniels ($2,400), making it hard to rely on either in daily formats. The Oakland Raiders are an excellent matchup for tight ends, but Davis and Daniels remain nothing more than deep sleepers.

Broncos | Vernon Davis in concussion protocol

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 15:45:25 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) and LB Danny Trevathan (concussion) remain in the concussion protocol, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) remains very iffy for this weekend against the Oakland Raiders. He's already a low-end tight end play each week, so avoid him. That makes Owen Daniels ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) more attractive as a deep sleeper, though, especially if Davis sits out. The Raiders are really bad at defending tight ends.

Broncos | Vernon Davis suffers concussion

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 16:25:47 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis (concussion) left the Week 12 game against the San Diego Chargers due to concussion and he was unable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Davis hasn't been much of a factor, as he is still trying to learn the offense and jell with his second quarterback in less than a month. Avoid him for FantasyScore purposes, even when he is healthy.

Broncos | Owen Daniels leads Denver TEs

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 22:50:15 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Owen Daniels had five receptions for 48 yards on six targets in the Week 12 game against the New England Patriots, while TE Vernon Davis had just two catches for 10 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Daniels is, by far, the better FantasyScore option among the two tight ends. Davis has a handicap, as he came over and had to learn a new offense, and then Peyton Manning went down and V.D. had to adjust to a second quarterback in less than a month.

Broncos | Vernon Davis, Osweiler have chemistry

Sat, 28 Nov 2015 10:50:19 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis said he felt chemistry with QB Brock Osweiler from the first day he joined Denver. They were both playing with the second team at the time.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) was targeted six times in Osweiler's first start of the season last week. Davis caught all of them for 68 yards. Davis has turned fantasy relevant again since joining Denver, and he's a good start on FantasyScore in Week 12.

Broncos | Denver used more two-TE sets

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 15:27:54 -0800

The Denver Broncos used multiple tight end sets on 83.8% of their Week 11 plays with QB Brock Osweiler under center as opposed to using three-wide receiver sets 60% of the time with QB Peyton Manning playing. TE Vernon Davis was more involved as a result, and the Broncos ground game was successful.

Fantasy Tip: There's no question that Davis ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) becomes much more intriguing with Osweiler playing, and the tight end had his best game of the season (six catches, 68 yards) against the Chicago Bears. However, a Week 12 matchup against the New England Patriots won't be easy, meaning Davis should still be considered much more of a sleeper daily play at the position.

Broncos | Vernon Davis to be more involved?

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 10:24:31 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis was confused by his role in Week 10 against the Kansas City Chiefs, as he played 35 snaps but had only two catches for 19 yards. His lack of production last week was largely a result of QB Peyton Manning's struggles. With QB Brock Osweiler starting in Week 11, the Broncos will look to establish the run, which means Davis and the other tight ends should be more of a factor in the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: One of Davis' ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) catches came from Osweiler late in the game last week. Osweiler's stronger arm will allow Denver to stretch the field more often, and combined with Davis' excecptional speed for a tight end, the two could work well together. But it remains to be seen as Davis continues to learn the Broncos playbook. For now, Davis remains a low-end sleeper tight end on FantasyScore.

Broncos | Vernon Davis to see expanded role

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 11:38:40 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis will have an expanded role in Week 10 against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. Davis is more comfortable with QB Peyton Manning and his audible language.

Fantasy Tip: It's still hard to believe that Davis ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) will contribute enough in just his second week with the team in order to return value for FantasyScore users. Owen Daniels ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is still probably the safer pick if you're looking to save money on the tight end position, especially if Emmanuel Sanders is forced to sit out.

Broncos | Vernon Davis targeted once

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 19:19:24 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis was held without a catch in his team debut in Week 9 against the Indianapolis Colts. He was targeted just once.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is a risky FantasyScore play in the coming weeks as he learns the intricate Denver playbook and works to develop a rapport with Peyton Manning. Give him at least a couple of games to get acclimated before looking his way again.

Broncos | Vernon Davis expected to contribute

Sat, 07 Nov 2015 06:55:10 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis is expected to be an immediate contributor on offense for the Broncos. Davis will only be on the field for the plays he has practiced this week.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) likely will see limited snaps against the Indianapolis Colts since he recently joined the teams. Owners on fantasy leagues may want to see hoe Davis is used in the offense before considering him a starting option.

Broncos | Vernon Davis to see limited action

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 11:38:44 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis had a good week of practice with the team and will be active in Week 9 against the Indianapolis Colts, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. The Broncos hope to use Davis in a limited amount of plays in his debut with the team.

Fantasy Tip: It's going to take some time for Davis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) to learn this offense and get on the same page with Peyton Manning. It'll be interesting to see how he's used initially, but by no means should you expect anything notable statistics-wise in his first game. He's a very poor option in all fantasy formats this weekend.

Broncos | Vernon Davis needs to get acclimated

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 19:45:53 -0800

While Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis will play in Week 9 for his new team, beat writer Mike Klis estimates it might take a few weeks for Davis to figure out the offense and get in sync with QB Peyton Manning. "I've never played with Peyton," Davis said Wednesday, Nov. 4. "I've never played in an offense like this before. I don't know what's going to happen, but I know it's going to be damn good."

Fantasy Tip: Hold off on using Davis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) in FantasyScore, as his targets might be limited to very short routes. Don't expect more than 20-25 yards and a catch or two in his debut, if that.

Broncos | Vernon Davis will play

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 13:18:27 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis practiced Wednesday, Nov. 4, and will play in his first game with his new team this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear exactly how Davis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) will be used against the Indianapolis Colts. He could very well be eased into the offense, so it might be best to lay off on him in FantasyScore lineups this week.

Broncos | Vernon Davis hasn't lost speed

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 11:37:22 -0800

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis remains one of the fastest tight ends in the league, as evidenced by his 21.91 mph and 20.90 mph speeds by a tight end this year, which rank first and third.

Fantasy Tip: You shouldn't expect Davis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) to immediately come in and contribute heavily to Denver's passing attack; he'll need time to develop chemistry with Peyton Manning and learn the offense. But if you're desperate at the tight end position, you could do worse than Davis. He could develop into a nice red zone target for Manning down the stretch.

Broncos | More two-tight end sets for Denver?

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 09:09:41 -0800

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said he would like to use more two-tight end sets in the offense, and the acquisition of TE Vernon Davis should help him achieve this. "We're excited to add Vernon to the roster," president John Elway said. "He's a guy that adds great experience, great speed. (He has) been a team leader for the Niners for a long time. He'll be a great addition, a big weapon for us because of the speed that he has." Davis has missed two games this year because of a knee injury and had seen his playing time decrease with the San Francisco 49ers. Elway hinted that Davis should be ready to play in Week 9 against the Indianapolis Colts. Davis has two touchdowns and is averaging 22 yards per game in 20 games the last two years.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) could be active this weekend against the Colts, but it's a stretch to think that he'll contribute heavily right away, as it'll take some time to develop chemistry with Peyton Manning and to learn the offense. Stay away from him this week on FantasyScore.

49ers | Vernon Davis dealt to Broncos

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 14:19:57 -0800

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis and a seventh-round pick in the 2016 draft were traded to the Denver Broncos Monday, Nov. 2, in exchange for sixth-round picks in both 2016 and 2017, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Davis' departure means that Garrett Celek and Vance McDonald will see more work in the offense. If you're speculating in deeper leagues, Celek should be your first target. However, with San Fran's offense in disarray, neither tight end should be counted on.

Broncos | Vernon Davis headed to Denver

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 14:15:16 -0800

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis and a 2016 seventh-round pick is being traded to the Denver Broncos Monday, Nov. 2, in exchange for a sixth-rounder next year and a sixth-rounder in 2017, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: This trade won't automatically make Davis a fantasy beast. Keep in mind that he hadn't scored a touchdown since Week 1 of last season, although he wasn't in the best situation to utilize his talents. Davis will need time to gain chemistry with Peyton Manning and learn the offense, so he's only an addition off the waiver wire in fantasy leagues if you're desperate at the position. Don't expect him to immediately contribute on FantasyScore, either. The trade obviously makes Owen Daniels pretty useless at this point, too.

49ers | Vernon Davis could be trade bait

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 10:59:35 -0800

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis acknowledges that he could be on the trade block with the deadline approaching, and the 49ers are willing to make a deal. Davis doesn't have a touchdown since Week 1 of 2014 and is entering the final year of his contract. Davis has yet to speak with general manager Trent Baalke but has talked with his agent about his future. Davis had six catches for only 24 yards in Week 8 against the St. Louis Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Davis' fantasy value would surely be on the rise if he was dealt to a contending team in need of more production from the tight end position. He's nothing more than a backup tight end if he remains with San Fran with struggling quarterback Colin Kaepernick and a bad offensive line.

Broncos | Denver TEs not cutting it

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 16:51:05 -0700

Denver Broncos TEs Owen Daniels and Virgil Green have combined for just 17 catches on 34 targets for 113 yards and two touchdowns this year. At this time last year, TE Julius Thomas was targeted 36 times for 28 catches, 304 yards and nine touchdowns. Daniels has always done well in a similar offense but is averaging only 6.1 yards per catch, which is four yards fewer than his career low.

If Daniels doesn't improve, the Broncos may be forced to look for a trade for a player like San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis, St. Louis Rams TE Jared Cook or Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett. WR Jordan Norwood is improving in the slot role, but QB Peyton Manning doesn't fully trust him yet. Norwood hasn't been targeted more than three times since Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Daniels ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has been a little beat up but hasn't been able to get separation from opposing linebackers at his age. He is basically touchdown-dependent, making him a weak FantasyScore option. Green ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is mainly used for run blocking and can be ignored everywhere.

49ers | Vernon Davis trade bait?

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 09:35:43 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis could become trade bait this year after he led the team in receiving in their Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Oct. 22. Bay Area News Group's Cam Inman thinks that TE Garrett Celek is the Niners' No. 1 tight end. Davis can become a free agent next March.

Fantasy Tip: Davis had four grabs for 61 yards last night but remains without a touchdown catch this year. He's strictly a backup fantasy tight end right now but could find himself in TE1 territory if he's traded to a more effective offense this year.

49ers | Vernon Davis expected to play

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 15:27:01 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21, and is listed as probable for the Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Oct. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) was active for the team's last game but did not record any touches during the game. Davis has a favorable matchup because the Seahawks have struggled to stop opposing tight ends, but owners may want to look for more consistent options.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (knee) was able to take part in a full practice Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) might be active for Thursday's game against the Seahawks, but Seattle ranks fifth in the NFL against the pass. It isn't a favorable matchup for FantasyScore players.

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 21:29:52 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (foot) was listed as a limited participant for practice Monday, Oct. 19, as he deals with a foot injury.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) was able to play in Week 6, but he was barely a factor. Avoid him in FantasyScore until he is able to return to full health and get more involved in the offense.

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 12:27:41 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (knee) is officially active for the Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) should see hit normal workload during the game and probably will be targeted a few times. Owners may want to avoid Davis this week since the Ravens do a good job against opposing tight ends.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis is the subject of possible trade talks, as teams that lose tight ends in the next couple weeks may look to get something done with the 49ers. Sources indicate it is not likely Davis will be dealt.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been hamstrung by injuries early in this season, and his reduced role has attracted attention of teams that want to upgrade at the position. Wait and see if he goes.

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 16:05:03 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 16, and is listed as questionable for the Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) was limited during practice all three days this week but should be ready to play against the Ravens. Davis may not be a great option for owners since the Ravens rank in the bottom five in fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends.

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 18:33:23 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has a shot to play in Week 6. He logged 13 total targets and 109 yards in the two full games he has played this year, so he could be worth a flier at FantasyScore if he takes the field.

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 17:39:36 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (knee) and TE Vance McDonald (chest) were limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) was not able to play in the team's Week 5 game but appears to have a chance to play in Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens. Davis may not be a great option for owners since the Ravens allow the fifth fewest fantasy points to tight ends. McDonald ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) would start if Davis is not able to play but probably should be avoided.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (knee) should be able to play in the Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to head coach Jim Tomsula.

Fantasy Tip: Davis missed the team's Week 5 game because of the injury, but appears to be on track for Week 6. Owners will need to check on his status during the week to see if he does not suffer any setbacks. He will be playing a Ravens team that has done well against tight ends this season.
