Bears | Kevin White building rapport with QB

Tue, 31 May 2016 18:59:53 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) is building chemistry with QB Jay Cutler during organized team activities (OTAs), and the rapport building is in the early stages. As far as his health is concerned, he said Tuesday, May 31, that he has felt 100 percent for months.

Fantasy Tip: White is an exciting player to watch heading into 2016. He is returning from a stress fracture in his shin which required surgery and cost him his entire rookie season. If he can stay healthy he might be one of those under the radar guys fantasy owners find in the middle rounds who outproduces his average draft position (ADP).

Bears | Jay Cutler to have same offense

Sat, 14 May 2016 17:14:20 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler will work with an offense that has the same shell and language as last season, according to offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, and Loggains said his strong relationship with Cutler will help offset the departure of Adam Gase.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler can be a quality fantasy starter against the right matchups, but his lack of consistency from one week to the next makes him better suited to be a fantasy backup.

Bears | Chicago in the market for a QB?

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 17:57:14 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler's guaranteed money on his seven-year extension has all been paid, and beat writer Dan Wiederer believes the fact that the team isn't locked into keeping Cutler beyond 2016 makes it more likely the Bears will draft a quarterback at some point in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Even if the Bears do draft a quarterback this season, it isn't going to have an impact on Cutler's value in 2016.

Bears | Chicago last in NFL in offensive spending

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 16:18:18 -0800

The Chicago Bears have $48.11 million invested in offensive players as free agency approaches. The Bears are projected to be $58.3 million under the cap. QB Jay Cutler's cap hit makes up a team-high 10.9% of the allocated money for 2016.

Bears | Jay Cutler was a bright spot

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 22:27:03 -0800

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler was "one of (the) brightest spots" during his first full season with the organization, head coach John Fox said Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler appears to be entrenched as the quarterback in Chicago. His fantasy appeal took a hit when the club let Matt Forte walk, and it's uncertain if they'll be able to pony up the cash to bring back Alshon Jeffery. Cutler's fantasy appeal needs Kevin White to come back from injury, and Jeffery or another stud free agent or draft pick to be brought into the fold.

Bears | John Fox confident in Jay Cutler

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 11:05:45 -0800

Chicago Bears head coach John Fox feels much better about QB Jay Cutler going into their second year together. Cutler cut back on his turnovers after leading the NFL in interceptions in 2014, and he rebounded by posting a career-high 92.3 passer rating.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler shocked a lot of folks in 2015, especially going large chunks without his No. 1 receiver, Alshon Jeffery. Highly regarded rookie wideout Kevin White never even played. Getting both those receivers back this year will go a long way, and Cutler could become a more legitimate QB1 for fantasy.

Bears | Chicago GM confident in Jay Cutler

Mon, 04 Jan 2016 17:48:10 -0800

The Chicago Bears plan to build the offense around QB Jay Cutler, and general manager Ryan Pace said Monday, Jan. 4, that the team has "extreme confidence" in the veteran quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler wrapped up the 2015 season with 3,659 passing yards with 21 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, a 64.4 completion percentage and a career-high 92.3 quarterback rating. His completion percentage was the second-highest of his career, and that was playing nearly half of the season without his biggest target, Alshon Jeffery, part of the season without Martellus Bennett, and losing first-round pick Kevin White to an injury in the preseason.

Bears | Jay Cutler limiting mistakes

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 07:50:15 -0800

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has eight interceptions this season. If he avoids throwing four interceptions in Week 17, he'll have the fewest picks he has thrown in a season since he threw seven in 10 games in 2011.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has a midrange matchup against the Detroit Lions in Week 17. He has posted 16.7 fantasy points per game in the last four games, which makes him an average QB option on FantasyScore.

Bears | Jay Cutler posts solid stats

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 14:11:42 -0800

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler went 26-for-37 for 231 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler has done well over the last two games with four touchdowns and one interception during that span but has lose some of his weapons at receiver. He will be facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16 and may not be a great option.

Bears | Jay Cutler overcomes family tragedy

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 15:37:29 -0800

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns Sunday, Dec. 13, in a 24-21 loss to the Washington Redskins. Cutler practiced and played despite a family tragedy. A body believed to be Cutler's brother-in-law, Michael Cavallari, was found in Utah earlier in the week.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) looked a little more stable this week than he did in previous campaigns, and that's good given what he has been through. But the losing continues for the Bears. Cutler is still putting up good numbers, but watch his future matchups.

Bears | Jay Cutler throws pick six in loss

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 15:39:26 -0800

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler was 18 of 31 for 202 yards and a touchdown in a 26-20 overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He also threw a pick-six to 49ers SS Jimmie Ward.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) had 13 incompletions and looked lackluster once again following a big win over the Green Bay Packers. This is not what Cutler lovers wanted to see the week after a huge victory that put the team in playoff contention.

Bears | Martellus Bennett, Jay Cutler probable

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 15:48:31 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) and QB Jay Cutler (illness) are both listed as probable for Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers. Bennett practiced in full all week, while Cutler was limited Friday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) could return excellent value in daily formats with Marquess Wilson out and Eddie Royal expected to miss another game. Bennett would effectively become Cutler's second receiving target, especially with Zach Miller beat up, too. Cutler ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) is quietly having one of his better seasons, but his ceiling remains limited on FantasyScore, especially with several receiving options sidelined.

Bears | Jay Cutler struggles in Week 11

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 14:59:00 -0800

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler went 18-for-32 for 265 yards and one interception against the Denver Broncos in Week 11. Cutler also lost a fumble in the fourth quarter of the game.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler failed to throw a touchdown for the first time this season but was without some of his weapons on offense. He will be facing the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving and may not be the best starting option for owners.

Bears | Jay Cutler tosses three TDs

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 18:40:39 -0800

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler completed 19 of his 24 pass attempts for 258 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 10 game against the St. Louis Rams. He also ran three times for 24 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler has at least one touchdown pass in each of his eight games, and he is averaging 301.5 yards passing over the past two outings. He has re-emerged as a must-play FantasyScore option.

Bears | Jay Cutler sets Bears record

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 09:15:37 -0800

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler set a franchise record with his 138th career touchdown pass in the Week 9 win over the San Diego Chargers Monday, Nov. 9, passing former QB Sid Luckman. Cutler went 27-for-40 for 345 yards and two touchdowns, but he also fumbled and threw an interception that was run back for a score.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has become much more efficient with Adam Gase as his offensive coordinator this year, throwing 10 touchdowns and only five interceptions so far. However, a matchup with the St. Louis Rams, who have allowed a league-low five touchdown passes, should have you ignoring him on FantasyScore this weekend.

Bears | Jay Cutler is a turnover machine

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 18:14:22 -0800

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler lost a fumble in the first half of the Week 9 game against the San Diego Chargers Monday, Nov. 9. He has 160 turnovers since the start of the 2007 NFL season, breaking a tie with New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees for second place in the span behind New York Giants QB Eli Manning.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has struggled with turnovers, but he has still posted solid statistics over the same span. He remains a decent mid-tier FantasyScore option.

Bears | Jay Cutler comfortable in system

Thu, 29 Oct 2015 16:54:54 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler appears comfortable in offensive coordinator Adam Gase's offensive system that is similar to what Gase used with QB Peyton Manning the last couple of years with the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) is 106-for-174 for 1,231 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions in five games this year, which is an improvement over last year. Cutler is coming off his first 300-yard passing game last week and now has a healthy Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal at his disposal, which could help him carry the momentum against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8.

Bears | Jay Cutler will be able to play

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 08:44:08 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) is officially active for the Week 5 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) played well in his first game back from the injury in Week 4, but he will be without some of his receivers against the Chiefs. Cutler does have a favorable matchup this week and could be a starting option in deeper leagues.

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 10:26:36 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) is questionable for Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs. QB Jimmy Clausen (undisclosed) is also questionable.

Bears | Jay Cutler says he isn't full strength

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 19:04:51 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) said his injured hamstring isn't 100%, but he is going to push through it. "I feel better, I do," Cutler said Thursday, Oct. 8. "I'm still not exactly where I want to be, but it is what it is, and we have a lot of guys banged up out here. I'll just make do."

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2 of cap) was solid against the Raiders in Week 4 in his return, and while the pass rush of Kansas City could test Cutler's hamstring in Week 5, the Chiefs also rank 28th against the pass. He could be worth taking a chance on at FantasyScore.

Bears | Jay Cutler listed as limited

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 15:16:26 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) was able to return for the team's Week 4 game and should be fine for Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season and could be a possible starting option for owners.

Bears | Jay Cutler limited Wednesday

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 16:45:41 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) could be a decent value play in Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs, especially if Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal are active. Cutler's inconsistency is well documented, though, so roster him at your own risk on FantasyScore.

Bears | Jay Cutler tosses two scores in return

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 17:28:21 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) completed 28 of 43 passes for 281 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 22-20 win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) didn't seem bothered by the hamstring injury that sidelined him, but he remains a high-risk, high-reward option at FantasyScore.

Bears | Jay Cutler has played well vs. Oakland

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 08:57:31 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) went 16-for-24 for 300 yards and two touchdowns in a game against the Oakland Raiders in 2008. His Total QBR of 98.3 in that game was the highest rating in his career.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) will be the starting quarterback this week but is not completely recovered from his injury. Cutler does have affordable matchup this week, and owners could decide to take a risk and start Cutler, but most owners should look for other options.

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 08:47:23 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) is officially active for the Week 4 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) likely will be limited in his mobility since his hamstring is not 100% at this point. Owners probably should look for healthier options to use in their lineups.

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 08:15:54 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) is expected to start against the Oakland Raiders in Week 4 even though his injured hamstring is not fully healed.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) likely will have limited mobility because of the injury, which makes him a risky option for fantasy owners. Owners may want to consider other options to use in their lineups.

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) hopes to play in the Week 4 game against the Oakland Raiders, but the team is worried about the possibility of Cutler reinjuring his hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check the inactive list to see if Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) will be able to play. Cutler could have limited mobility if he is able to play and probably is not the best option for owners to use.

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 15:51:17 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable for the Week 4 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check the inactive list to see if Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) will be playing in the game. Cutler will be a risky option for owners because he could be limited by the injury if he is active. QB Jimmy Clausen ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should not be a starting option if he receives the start.

Bears | Jay Cutler could be game-time call

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 07:34:12 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) could be a game-time decision for Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is still probably on the downside of questionable for the game, and Jimmy Clausen ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) figures to start. Neither are good options on FantasyScore this week.

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 11:39:20 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 1, and he assessed that he is day to day.

Bears | Jay Cutler limited Wednesday

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 12:28:45 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 30, according to head coach John Fox. Fox said Cutler looked good and had a good day of practice after missing Week 3. Cutler had been expected to miss a minimum of two games. Cutler must prove he can avoid the rush and escape the pocket before he'll be allowed to return.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) may be questionable this week against the Oakland Raiders, but he's unlikely to play. Avoid him. Jimmy Clausen ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should start again. His matchup is much better this weekend, but he's still on the low end of options to choose from on FantasyScore.

Bears | Jay Cutler, Alshon Jeffery ruled out

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 10:03:24 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) and WR Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) have both been ruled out for Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks, according to head coach John Fox. QB Jimmy Clausen will make the start.

Fantasy Tip: We already knew Cutler was likely to be out. Clausen ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) will probably be a game manager for this one against a defense that's getting key cog Kam Chancellor back. Avoid Clausen. Chicago's other receivers are also beat up, leaving Martellus Bennett ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) as your safest FantasyScore pick from Chicago's offense in this one.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is not expected to play against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3 but has not been ruled out at this point. Jimmy Clausen ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) likely will receive the start and should not be a starting option in fantasy leagues.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) was expected to miss at least two weeks due to a hamstring injury, but head coach John Fox has not yet ruled him out for Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: The expectation is that Jimmy Clausen ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) will still make the start against the Seahawks. Neither he nor Cutler would be a recommended FantasyScore option.

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) will miss at least two weeks because of the hamstring injury he suffered in Week 2, according to sources. Jimmy Clausen will be the starting quarterback for the time being.

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (hamstring) suffered a strained hamstring in the team's Week 2 game, according to head coach John Fox. The team will provide an update on Cutler's status Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler's availability for Week 3 is uncertain at this point, but his practice participation will determine his status. Jimmy Clausen would be the starting quarterback if Cutler misses the game and would not be a great fantasy option.

Bears | Jay Cutler struggles against Pack

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 19:21:41 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler will face the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. He has struggled against the Packers since joining the Bears before the 2009 season, completing 180 of his 318 pass attempts for 2,192 yards, 13 touchdowns and 21 interceptions while being sacked 33 times in 10 games.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) has lost Brandon Marshall from last season's roster and that's a big target missing in the offense. Based on his struggles against the Packers in the past FantasyScore owners will want to stay far away from Cutler in Week 1.

Bears | Jay Cutler solid in preseason game

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 18:38:26 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler completed eight of his nine pass attempts to five different receivers for 69 yards in a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts Saturday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler was efficient despite missing receivers Alshon Jeffrey and Kevin White. However, he is notoriously inconsistent, and he can't be trusted to deliver QB1 results on a weekly basis.

Bears | Former GM has harsh words for Jay Cutler

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 19:02:18 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler lacks poise, according to former general manager Jerry Angelo. "He's not comfortable reading defenses and consequently locks on to a favorite or predetermined target that may or may not be the right choice," Angelo said. "The less he's asked to see the better he is."

Fantasy Tip: At this stage in his career, it seems unlikely he will ever be more than the boom-or-bust players he has always been. You can't count on him as an every-week fantasy starter, but he will have a few big games during the season.

Bears | Jay Cutler runs hurry-up

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler operated out of a hurry-up offense during a majority of a preseason game against the Washington Redskins Thursday, Aug. 13, finishing 4-of-7 for 42 yards in two series.

Fantasy Tip: There tends to be no middle ground with Cutler, making him a high-risk, high-reward fantasy option. He will have value as a matchup play FantasyScore during the course of the year, but he is too inconsistent to trust as a starter in seasonal leagues.

Bears | Jay Cutler improving?

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 14:34:00 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has shown better mechanics recently under new offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Gase said Cutler's ability to communicate with teammates has stood out and he's able to get wide receivers on the same page.

Fantasy Tip: The problem with Cutler has usually been consistency, but a new coaching staff is promising, and it sounds like Gase has been good for him so far. Still, one should approach drafting Cutler with caution. He shouldn't be viewed as a starting fantasy quarterback.

Bears | Jay Cutler remains perfect

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 17:16:47 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has yet to throw an interception in 7-on-7 or team drills through 11 practices. Cutler accredited offensive coordinator Adam Gase for the schemes. Cutler also laughed at a question about the significance of the feat, "Camp's camp," he said. "We're not getting hit. These aren't live bullets. So we'll see what happens when we start going."

Fantasy Tip: Cutler threw 18 interceptions in 15 games last season, matching the second-highest total of his career. Owners will be taking a tremendous risk with Cutler, regardless of his training camp success.

Bears | Quiet scrimmage for Jay Cutler

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 17:49:08 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler completed just one of his five pass attempts during a scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: To be fair to Cutler, he was playing without receiver Alshon Jeffery and running back Matt Forte, but at the end of the day, Cutler is going to be the same high-risk, high-reward fantasy option that he has been throughout his career.

Bears | Jay Cutler impressing Adam Gase

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 16:09:32 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler is "further ahead than everybody else" in terms of understanding the new offensive scheme in training camp, according to offensive coordinator Adam Gase. "Any quarterback I think is going to be happy with [Gase]," Cutler said. "He does a really good job putting you in the right position, keeping the defense off balance, mixing up the play calls and that makes it easier on the quarterback." The Bears want to take pressure off Cutler by balancing out the offense with the running game; Chicago ran the ball less than 40% in 2014. Gase also stressed the importance of moving Cutler outside the pocket, a place where he has excelled in his career.

Fantasy Tip: The positive talk between the new offensive coordinator and Cutler is all fine and dandy, but it doesn't mean a whole lot until games begin. Cutler has had fine coaching and coordinators before, but his turnover-prone ways continue to get in the way of separating himself from the middle of the pack in the NFL. He'll continue to be a volatile backup fantasy QB until he shows us differently.

Bears | Jay Cutler impressing coaches

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 17:52:26 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has impressed head coach John Fox with his attitude off the field, but Fox maintained that they're in a performance-based business, Wednesday, July 29. "No matter what we say about anybody, it's gonna come down to how we perform on Sundays or Mondays or whenever they line us up," said Fox. Cutler also spoke highly of Fox, and said he appreciates Fox's straight-shooting demeanor.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler entered his seventh training camp with the Bears, but he'll have a shorter leash than possibly ever before. Fantasy owners can consider Cutler as a late-round flier in standard leagues, as his starting job will be entirely dependent on his ability to keep possession of the football.

Bears | Jay Cutler running out of time

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 14:41:13 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler may need to win in 2015 to stay in Chicago, suggests Jeff Dickerson of ESPN. Cutler has over $47 million guaranteed remaining on his contract, but the Bears could move on if Cutler struggles again in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler has thrown double-digit interceptions in all but one of his six seasons in Chicago. The Bears' offensive line can share some of the blame for Cutler's struggles, but he has enough weapons in the offense to post better numbers than he has been. Cutler shouldn't be drafted as a QB1 in 12-team leagues.

Bears | Jay Cutler works out with teammates

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 09:08:19 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler worked out with some of his offensive teammates at Vanderbilt University this week. WR Eddie Royal, WR Kevin White and TE Martellus Bennett were among the players in attendance.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler has had some down performances the last few seasons but should have several weapons to work with this season. Cutler probably is not a starting quarterback in fantasy at this point but could be a solid No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues.
