Diamondbacks | Jarrod Saltalamacchia starting vs. Rockies

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 15:30:31 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting behind the plate and batting seventh against Colorado Rockies SP David Hale Wednesday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is a nice flier for FantasyScore players Wednesday. He is cheap with a favorable pitching matchup, and the game is at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Just remember, Saltalamacchia has a .171/.271/.317 slash line this season.

Diamondbacks | Jarrod Saltalamacchia catching

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 12:26:49 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Jarrod Saltalamacchia will start behind the plate and bat seventh against the San Diego Padres Sunday, June 21. C Welington Castillo is getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is only batting .161 during the month of June and .118 overall this season, so he is not a great option in FantasyScore this afternoon.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo sitting out

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 15:57:19 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards Tuesday, June 16. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) likely will return to the lineup in the next day or two. Saltalamacchia ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) has struggled at the plate this season with a .131 batting average and is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo out Saturday

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 13:26:31 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo isn't in the starting lineup Saturday, June 13, against the San Francisco Giants. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia draws the start against RHP Ryan Vogelsong, and he'll hit seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) went 1-for-4 with a run scored in his most recent start. Salty has struck out in four of his last nine plate appearances, and he's not a viable option on FantasyScore.

Arizona Diamondbacks C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting behind the plate and hitting sixth in the order Tuesday, June 9, against the Los Angeles Dodgers and RHP Carlos Frias. C Welington Castillo comes out of the starting lineup.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo out Sunday

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 11:36:59 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Sunday, June 7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia will catch and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is receiving a regular day of rest, with the team playing a day game following a night game Saturday, June 6. Saltalamacchia ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is hitting .250 in 20 at-bats since being recalled from the minors and makes a viable low-cost catching option for FantasyScore owners.

Diamondbacks | Jordan Pacheco starting Tuesday

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 16:47:25 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Jordan Pacheco will start at catcher and hit sixth in the batting order Tuesday, June 2, against the Atlanta Braves. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia comes out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Pacheco ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is 3-for-his-last-9, with three singles and no other production. Pacheco is a cheap play in a hitter-friendly park, but his upside is rather low.

Diamondbacks | Jarrod Saltalamacchia the No. 1 catcher

Fri, 29 May 2015 16:06:23 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Jarrod Saltalamacchia will receive the majority of starts behind the plate, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia went 2-for-29 over nine games with the Miami Marlins earlier this season, and then he posted an uninspiring .188/.222/.375 slash line through nine games with Class AAA Reno. He is a desperation flier in NL-only and two-catcher formats until proven otherwise. In daily contests, "Salty" is nothing more than a low-priced flier.

Diamondbacks | Jarrod Saltalamacchia will play often

Fri, 29 May 2015 15:36:57 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Jarrod Saltalamacchia will receive most of the playing time at catcher with C Tuffy Gosewich (knee) sidelined, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia did not have a lot of success when he played for the Miami Marlins earlier this season and has a .069 batting average. Saltamacchia could be an option in NL-only and two-catcher leagues since he will be a starter, but owners should not expect great stats from him.

Diamondbacks | Jarrod Saltalamacchia in lineup

Fri, 29 May 2015 14:03:32 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is batting sixth and starting behind the plate against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday, May 29.

Fantasy Tip: Over his last 123 games, Saltalamacchia is sporting a .209/.310/.351 slash line with 46 runs, 12 home runs and 45 RBI. His 25-home run season in 2012 seems like a distant memory at this point, and fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach with "Salty" in the majority of formats. A speculative add in NL-only and two-catcher formats isn't out of the question, but expectations should be kept in check.
