Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval ahead of schedule

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 14:29:37 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) will begin "light baseball activities" on Monday, June 20, six weeks after getting left shoulder surgery. His rehab is slightly ahead of schedule, but he's still expected to miss the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Even if he could return before the end of the campaign, Sandoval probably still wouldn't be a factor in fantasy, as Travis Shaw has established himself as the everyday third baseman with a nice showing thus far. Sandoval has been a disaster since joining the Red Sox and could wind up somewhere else next year.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval to miss season

Tue, 03 May 2016 13:30:32 -0700

Confirming a previous item, Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) will miss the remainder of the 2016 season following left shoulder surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval can be officially dropped in every league. Unless your league has a very deep bench, his value has likely cratered in keeper and dynasty leagues as well. Travis Shaw's job should be safe for the time being with Sandoval out for the season, and he has done a decent job.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval update

Tue, 03 May 2016 06:09:44 -0700

Updating previous reports, Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) needs reconstructive surgery on his left shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: The Panda is likely to miss the rest of the season and should be dropped in all formats. Travis Shaw has a .322-3-17 line on the season and should be owned everywhere.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval likely out this year

Mon, 02 May 2016 17:05:32 -0700

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) is facing "significant" shoulder surgery and a lengthy rehab, and the odds are against him returning to play this year. Boston will know more about his timeline after he has surgery.

Fantasy Tip: You can safely drop the Panda in any single-year leagues now if you were stashing him in deeper leagues. Travis Shaw has a slash line of .322/.390/.533 with three home runs and 17 RBI and remains a very dangerous fantasy force right now.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval to have surgery

Mon, 02 May 2016 16:41:27 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) will undergo surgery on his left shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: It's unknown what type of surgery Sandoval will have, but it's likely to sideline him for most, if not the rest, of the season. Travis Shaw won the starting third base job out of spring training and continues to play well after the first month of the season. Shaw should be owned everywhere.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval feeling better

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 18:03:44 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) said he is still experiencing soreness in his strained left shoulder but claimed that much of the inflammation has subsided. He is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews Monday, May 2, and it will be determined at that point if he will need to undergo surgery.

Fantasy Tip: If surgery is deemed necessary, Sandoval could wind up missing the remainder of the 2016 season. He has already lost his starting job at the hot corner to 3B Travis Shaw, so he possesses little value in all fantasy formats.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval to visit doctor Monday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 14:33:10 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion Monday, May 2.

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval hasn't made much progress because of swelling inside his shoulder. It's a situation that could require surgery and keep the Panda out for most, if not all, of 2016. With Travis Shaw playing well for Boston at third base, Sandoval doesn't have much hope of returning to a starting role anytime soon.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval has injection

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 11:45:04 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) received an injection Monday, April 18, and will be looked at again in a few weeks by Dr. James Andrews. Sandoval didn't have a full exam because of soreness.

Fantasy Tip: The Panda could eventually need surgery on the shoulder, which could sideline him for most or all of the remainder of the season. His decline reached epic levels last year, and he gave up switch-hitting. It continued this spring, as Travis Shaw won the starting job. The chances of Sandoval rebounding and winning significant playing time back this year seem minimal.
