Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval feeling better

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 18:03:44 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) said he is still experiencing soreness in his strained left shoulder but claimed that much of the inflammation has subsided. He is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews Monday, May 2, and it will be determined at that point if he will need to undergo surgery.

Fantasy Tip: If surgery is deemed necessary, Sandoval could wind up missing the remainder of the 2016 season. He has already lost his starting job at the hot corner to 3B Travis Shaw, so he possesses little value in all fantasy formats.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval to visit doctor Monday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 14:33:10 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion Monday, May 2.

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval hasn't made much progress because of swelling inside his shoulder. It's a situation that could require surgery and keep the Panda out for most, if not all, of 2016. With Travis Shaw playing well for Boston at third base, Sandoval doesn't have much hope of returning to a starting role anytime soon.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval has injection

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 11:45:04 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) received an injection Monday, April 18, and will be looked at again in a few weeks by Dr. James Andrews. Sandoval didn't have a full exam because of soreness.

Fantasy Tip: The Panda could eventually need surgery on the shoulder, which could sideline him for most or all of the remainder of the season. His decline reached epic levels last year, and he gave up switch-hitting. It continued this spring, as Travis Shaw won the starting job. The chances of Sandoval rebounding and winning significant playing time back this year seem minimal.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval may need surgery

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 14:13:15 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) has "a lot going on" in his shoulder and could need surgery, according to general manager Dave Dombrowski. Sandoval is visiting Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion.

Fantasy Tip: If Sandoval were to need surgery, he could be in danger of having to sit out the rest of the season. His weight and conditioning continue to be problems, and his bad spring cost him the job to Travis Shaw. The Panda is in serious decline with little hope of rebounding now with an injury involved. Only hang onto him in the deepest of mixed and AL leagues.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval getting second opinion

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 12:03:45 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) plans to see Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion on his left shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: It's safe to say 2016 hasn't started out as planned for The Panda. He's currently 0-for-6 on the year with four punch-outs, and he's facing an extended absence. It's too early to simply drop him, but it is getting closer to that point. Meanwhile, intriguing youngster Travis Shaw should be owned in most leagues.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval needs help to lose weight

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 21:31:21 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval will need a "babysitter" to help him lose weight, according to his former trainer, Ethan Banning. "He's proven to me and shown consistently that he's got to have somebody like me holding his hand doing that," Banning said. "And it's not an exercise thing, it's an eating thing."

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval's physique has been questioned since the start of spring training, and now that he is dealing with a shoulder injury on top of reduced playing time, feel free to cut him loose if there is a solid replacement available.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval awaiting MRI results

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 14:23:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) underwent an MRI exam Thursday, April 14, and the team will announce the results Friday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval was relegated to a bench role to start the season, and his ownership should be reserved to deep mixed leagues. Additionally, it isn't out of the question to cut ties if you don't have the luxury to stash him in a DL slot. Expect an update on the severity of Sandoval's injury Friday.

Red Sox | Big Panda willing to stick around

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 23:09:53 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) wants to remain with the team only if he can play every day, and the team has no intention of playing him unless he loses weight and others in their current lineup struggle. The team has more than $75 million remaining on his contract, and the team does not want to eat his entire deal by cutting him. It remains to be seen if there is a trade market for him.

Fantasy Tip: The Big Panda lost his starting third base gig in spring training, and his days are likely numbered if the team can find a trade partner and someone to take on some of his contract. This is certainly not the last update on the situation. Stay tuned.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval sent to DL

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 13:34:20 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain Wednesday, April 13. In a corresponding move, 2B Josh Rutledge was recalled from Class AAA Pawtucket.

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval is a fringe DL stash and likely not worth a bench spot in the majority of seasonal leagues since he doesn't have a full-time job. Rutledge is only worth a flier add in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, and he doesn't project to grab enough playing time to have much of a fantasy impact.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval receives start

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 07:08:40 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval will start at third base and is batting sixth against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Saturday, April 9. 3B Travis Shaw is starting at first base and is batting fourth.

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval has received only one at-bat this season and likely will not receive regular playing time early in the season. Owners in most leagues should be able to find better candidates for their lineups. Shaw has gone 4-for-9 in three games and could be an option in some deeper leagues.
