Bills | Fred Jackson hopes for quick return

Mon, 20 Oct 2014 10:32:09 -0700

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (groin) said he hopes to be able to return from his injury quicker than expected four-week time frame.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson probably will miss at least a few weeks, so owners should keep him on their bench until he is healthy. Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown likely will see time at running back, but Dixon probably has more fantasy value and could be a flex option.

Bills | Fred Jackson has slight tear

Mon, 20 Oct 2014 07:09:05 -0700

Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (groin) said his adductor longus pulled off the bone about a centimeter, and he felt a pop. The injury is typically a four-week injury, but surgery is not required.

Fantasy Tip: Anthony Dixon is expected to start in Jackson's absence, but Bryce Brown could figure in as well. Look for Dixon to be a solid bargain bin flex option against the New York Jets in Week 8.

Bills | Fred Jackson to sit in Week 8

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 18:14:50 -0700

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (groin) had an MRI Sunday, Oct. 19, and he will be out at least two weeks due to the groin injury he suffered in the Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings. The team has a bye in Week 9, so it is possible he returns in Week 10 and misses just one game.

Fantasy Tip: With Jackson sidelined, and C.J. Spiller expected to be down a while, Anthony Dixon is expected to start at least one game with Bryce Brown likely active and serving as the primary backup.

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 15:54:31 -0700

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (groin) will need further tests to determine the severity of the groin injury he suffered in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Doug Marrone said Sunday, Oct. 19.

Fantasy Tip: With Jackson dinged up, and C.J. Spiller set for collarbone surgery Monday, it will be Anthony Dixon as the featured back in Buffalo going forward, unless Jackson's ailment turns on to be minor. Bryce Brown might also factor into the backfield mix.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson is dealing with an illness but has a good chance to play this week. Jackson probably will continue to share work with C.J. Spiller and receive a good number of touches. Jackson costs $6,300 on FantasyScore and could be consider a No. 2 running back or flex option.

Bills | Fred Jackson doesn't do all drills

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 14:10:26 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson's sprained ankle isn't believed to be serious, so he should play in Week 6 against the New England Patriots, unless he suffers a setback during practice. Jackson is clearly the favorite in Buffalo's backfield over C.J. Spiller ($6,400), and he's cheaper at FantasyScore ($6,300), too.

Bills | Fred Jackson outshining C.J. Spiller

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 14:06:54 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson has completely outperformed RB C.J. Spiller so far this season. A large part of that is because Jackson has seen more opportunities, especially in the receiving game. Jackson's 33 targets are second in the NFL among running backs, and 19 more than Spiller.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson's age, 35, doesn't seem to be affecting him much. While Spiller does have more carries than Jackson on the season, Jackson is the much preferred option, especially in PPR leagues.

Bills | Cordy Glenn cleared

Mon, 18 Aug 2014 15:12:54 -0700

Buffalo Bills OT Cordy Glenn (illness) has been cleared to participate in team drills, according to head coach Doug Marrone. The team will see how he performs during practice before deciding if he will play in the third preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Glenn has miss most of training camp because of an undisclosed illness but has time to prepare for the start of the season. His presence on the offensive line should help the values of EJ Manuel, C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson, because he is a Pro Bowl player.

Bills | Doug Marrone talks running backs

Thu, 07 Aug 2014 13:29:27 -0700

Buffalo Bills RBs C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson will likely see the bulk of the action in Buffalo's backfield this year, barring any roster changes. Head coach Doug Marrone recently frowned upon the idea of utilizing three running backs.

Fantasy Tip: Spiller has recently been involved in trade rumors, though those rumors lack substance. Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon seem to be headed for not much more than backup roles.

Bills | Run game shines in practice

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 17:50:00 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson and RB Anthony Dixon both reached the second level on runs during team drills Tuesday, July 22, and the team's top four backs all had runs that would have gone for first down yardage.

Fantasy Tip: If the offensive line continues to open holes, C.J. Spiller and Jackson stand to be the main beneficiaries. However, Spiller should be drafted as a RB2 and Jackson a RB3 because the two players split carries and come with some injury concerns.

That definitely gives me the opportunity to be out here three or four more years and competing with these guys and getting this thing turned around. That's the number one goal, getting this thing turned around and giving this city something to be excited about and that's what I want to do before I'm out of here," Jackson said.

Marrone said the team planned to use RB Fred Jackson more during the game and that Spiller's playing time will vary from week to week.

Fantasy Tip: The team likely will continue to use Spiller and Jackson each game, but their production will change each week depending on what the team wants to do on offense. Both should be in the starting lineup most weeks.

Thu, 31 Oct 2013 11:41:10 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 31, but is expected to play in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs after sitting out due to a "nagging" high ankle sprain in Week 8. "I feel good about C.J. playing," head coach Doug Marrone said. "In talking with him, without any setbacks, we feel like he'll be ready to go."

Fantasy Tip: Despite the encouraging news on Spiller, he remains a pretty risky start this weekend against a tough Chiefs defense. Fred Jackson (knee) should continue to see the majority of the carries, too. Consider Spiller more of an RB3 or flex option.

Bills | C.J. Spiller's injury limits him

Thu, 24 Oct 2013 14:38:21 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller (ankle) seems to understand that his ankle injury robs him of his most important asset: his speed. "Everybody understands that speed and quickness are 98 percent of my game. If I'm not able to go out there and make a guy miss with my quickness it kind of works in their favor. But to me I think I can out run a lot of guys with a bad ankle. But the quickness and the cutting part is the hurdle I have to climb over," Spiller said. It seems as though head coach Doug Marrone is leaning toward resting Spiller in Week 8 over reducing his role.

Fantasy Tip: Everything is pointing toward Spiller taking a rest in Week 8. Keep him on your bench this weekend if that's the case. Fred Jackson's value receives a big boost.

Bills | C.J. Spiller misses practice

Thu, 24 Oct 2013 12:29:48 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller (ankle) missed his second straight day of practice Thursday, Oct. 24, but said there is "no feud" between himself and head coach Doug Marrone on the condition of his ankle. "I have no problem with Coach Marrone. I think we have a great relationship. Concerning my injury, I think we're both on the same page. He wants what's best for me, and he also wants what's best for this team. He's going to make the right decision," Spiller said. "And I'm going to back him. So there's definitely no feud, no miscommunication." Marrone has indicated that Spiller may not be feeling that great and hinted that the team could sit him out in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: There's a very real chance that Spiller is held out against the New Orleans Saints. Plan for that possibility. Fred Jackson is a must-start either way.

Bills | C.J. Spiller improving

Wed, 23 Oct 2013 12:53:17 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller (ankle) said his ankle is improving. "A whole lot better. 10 times better," Spiller said. "There's a couple more hurdles that I need to pass over before I'm 100 percent. I definitely feel a whole lot better today than I did last Wednesday." Spiller said he's better than head coach Doug Marrone made him out to be earlier this week. Spiller's workload has been limited lately because Marrone said "there is going to be a setback" each week. Spiller had just six carries for 11 yards in Week 7.

Fantasy Tip: It's not going to be completely up to Spiller. If Marrone doesn't feel that Spiller will be as effective, he will continue to limit him in favor of Fred Jackson. For now, as long as Spiller is playing, temper your expectations.
