Saints | Michael Thomas to fill big role?

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 18:30:10 -0700

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas is going to be asked to take on many of the responsibilities of free-agent WR Marques Colston.

Fantasy Tip: It is going to take Thomas some time to learn the offense and develop chemistry with Drew Brees, but he has enough upside to draft as a WR5.

Saints | Marques Colston released

Mon, 29 Feb 2016 13:55:03 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston (undisclosed) was cut with a failed physical designation Monday, Feb. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Colston has been over the hill for a while now and was supplanted by Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead as the top wide receivers in New Orleans. He could very well sign with another team this offseason, but he should no longer be regarded as a reliable starting fantasy option.

Saints | Marques Colston release likely

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 12:00:57 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston is expected to be released in the coming days, according to a source. Colston is set to earn $3.2 million in salary and bonuses in 2016 and missed three games while playing as the No. 3 wide receiver on the Saints last season.

Fantasy Tip: Colston has really been a shell of his old self the past few seasons as he has been overtaken by injuries and better talent. Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead have already shown they are capable of leading the Saints' receiving corps without Colston. If Colston is released, Cooks should be viewed as a low-end WR1 to high-end WR2, while Snead is in the WR4 conversation.

Saints | High hopes for Brandon Coleman

Tue, 16 Feb 2016 21:07:47 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman appears to be next in line if WR Marques Colston is not brought back or elects to retire. General manager Mickey Loomis believes the team has a replacement ready in Coleman. "Brandon Coleman is a big guy out of Rutgers that has done some good things and I think in many ways is the heir apparent to Marques," Loomis said Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Coleman posted nine receptions for 126 yards over the final two games, giving the team hope he can live up to his immense preseason 2015 hype. If he gets a chance at a starting gig heading into 2016, he would potentially be worth a mid-round fantasy selection.

Saints | Marques Colston retiring?

Sat, 13 Feb 2016 18:39:29 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston declined to speak to the media on the last day of access, and beat writer Katherine Terrell believes he will retire rather than play for another team in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Colston's numbers have been trending in the wrong direction, and if he does decide to play another year, he can be left on the waiver wire.

Saints | Marques Colston may be too expensive

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 17:01:45 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston may be asked to take another pay cut this offseason in order to stay with the team. He is scheduled to make $3.2 million in 2016 and have a $5.9 million salary cap figure.

Fantasy Tip: Colston probably will be a No. 3 wide receiver if he remains with the Saints. Colston finished this season with 520 yards and four touchdowns. He likely will go undrafted in most leagues next season but could be a late-round option in deeper leagues.

Saints | Marques Colston will not play

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 15:19:48 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston (chest) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and has been ruled out for the Week 17 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Tip: Brandin Cooks ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) and Willie Snead ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) likely will receive a majority of the targets during the game. They will be facing a tough Falcons secondary but could still be decent options for owners in most fantasy leagues.

Saints | Marques Colston does not practice

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 16:46:47 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston (chest) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Colston ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) probably will not play in Week 17 if he does not practice Friday, Jan. 1, so owners should monitor his situation. Colston has caught three touchdowns in his last three games but is not a great option if he is active.

Saints | Drew Brees, Marques Colston out

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 15:54:09 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (foot) and WR Marques Colston (chest) did not take part in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Brees ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) proved he could successfully play through his foot injury last week. However, he's a bust candidate against the strong secondary of the Atlanta Falcons this week. Colston ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has three touchdowns in the last two games, but he's also a candidate to fade as a sleeper on FantasyScore.
