Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP A.J. Griffin Sunday, July 24. C Drew Butera will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Butera is hitting .306 with two home runs and nine RBI in limited playing time this season and can be a starting option in two-catcher leagues.

Royals | Alex Gordon returns to lineup Sunday

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 08:43:21 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon will bat seventh and start in left field against Seattle Mariners SP Mike Montgomery Sunday, July 10. C Salvador Perez will bat second and serve as the designated hitter, while C Drew Butera starts behind the plate and bats ninth. DH/OF Kendrys Morales will bat third and play first base, with 1B Eric Hosmer receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is just 4-for-28 at the plate this month and is batting .201 through 194 at-bats entering play Sunday, so he should be avoided in all formats. Butera is batting .286 with two home runs and eight RBI through 56 at-bats this season and should be viewed as a productive source of cap relief in DFS.

Royals | Salvador Perez receiving day off

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 08:33:14 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez is receiving the day off against Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez Sunday, July 3. C Drew Butera will bat eighth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Butera, a career .192 hitter, is doing surprisingly well at the plate this season. He is 16-for-53 (.302) with seven doubles, two home runs and eight RBI and is worth considering as an inexpensive flier in daily fantasy games.

Royals | Salvador Perez sitting vs. Cards

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 13:32:34 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 28. C Drew Butera is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Perez remains one of the best fantasy backstops in the game. Sub him out where you can in seasonal leagues. Butera has been excellent this season with a .306/.358/.571 slash line over 54 plate appearances, but he is still nothing more than a flier in daily contests and a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues because of his limited playing time.

Royals | Three KC regulars taking a seat

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 15:02:08 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando and 1B Kendrys Morales are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 15. OF Whit Merrifield is in left field and hitting leadoff, OF Reymond Fuentes is starting in right field and batting seventh and C Drew Butera is doing the catching and hitting ninth with C Salvador Perez serving as the designated hitter. Also, 2B Christian Colon is starting at the keystone and is hitting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber.

Fantasy Tip: Merrifield has become a start in KC in short order with a .326 average (31-for-95), and he's homered in back-to-back games for his first two big league long balls. While he's hot, continue using him as a value pick in DFS. He's also worth adding for depth in deep mixed and AL-only leagues with everyday playing time. Fuentes, Butera and Colon all profile as low-end dart throws as deep sleepers in DFS.

Royals | Kendrys Morales on the bench

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 13:49:29 -0700

Kansas City Royals 1B Kendrys Morales is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright Monday, June 6. C Salvador Perez will serve as the designated hitter, while C Drew Butera will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Butera has gone 7-for-17 with two home runs and five RBI over the last seven days and can be a sleeper option for desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues.

Royals | Drew Butera sets career high

Tue, 31 May 2016 23:49:24 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Drew Butera went 3-for-3 with a double, walk, run scored and RBI Tuesday, May 31, against the Tampa Bay Rays. The three hits were a career high.

Fantasy Tip: Butera pushed his average to .321, but he is still only worth a look as a No. 2 receiver in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues. He is a tremendous value play in DFS when he makes the start behind the dish, however.

Royals | Salvador Perez out 7-10 days

Sun, 29 May 2016 10:24:09 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez (quadriceps) will miss seven to 10 days because of a quadriceps injury, according to manager Ned Yost. C Drew Butera will start at catcher against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Sunday, May 29, and is batting ninth in the lineup. Perez underwent an MRI which did not show any ligament damage to his knee.

Fantasy Tip: Butera likely will receive most of the starts while Perez is sidelined. Butera is hitting .250 in limited playing time this season, but owners should be able to find better options in most fantasy leagues.

Royals | Salvador Perez helped off field Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 14:15:59 -0700

Kansas City C Salvador Perez (knee) needed assistance to leave the field on Saturday, May 28, against the Chicago White Sox after injuring his left knee in a collision with 3B Cheslor Cuthbert while pursuing a foul popup. C Drew Butera replaced Perez following the ninth-inning mishap.

Fantasy Tip: Mike Moustakas was lost for the season and Alex Gordon for about approximately a month following their own collision last weekend against the White Sox. Given the aforementioned losses to the key bats in their lineup already, the Royals simply cannot afford another hitter in the middle of their order to miss significant time. Kansas City should have an update shortly on one of the top backstops in fantasy. Assuming Perez is out for any length of time, Butera is not a worthwhile alternative in any format.

Royals | Kendrys Morales, Jarrod Dyson out

Sun, 22 May 2016 10:14:49 -0700

Kansas City Royals 1B Kendrys Morales and OF Jarrod Dyson are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon Sunday, May 22. C Salvador Perez will serve as the designated hitter, while C Drew Butera will start at catcher and is batting ninth. OF Paulo Orlando will start in right field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Butera has a decent batting average but has only has 12 at-bats on the season, so owners should be able to find better players for their lineups. Orlando should be a solid starting candidate in daily fantasy leagues because he is hitting .533 with one home runs and six RBI over the last seven days.
