Giants | Denard Span to stick in leadoff spot

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 15:31:37 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Denard Span is hitting .198 on the year with a .255 on-base percentage in June, and he has 23 strikeouts in 100 plate appearances after striking out three times Sunday, June 26. Manager Bruce Bochy said he isn't considering moving OF Angel Pagan to the leadoff spot in place of Span, though. Pagan has been providing protection for C Buster Posey and SS Brandon Crawford in the sixth spot.

Fantasy Tip: Span's average is down to .250 on the year, and he has just three home runs and 27 RBI despite stealing eight bases from the leadoff spot. Span offers some steal potential but can't be started in any fantasy league with confidence right now.

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan recorded a season-high four hits against the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday, June 26, finishing with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored, and he has hit safely in eight straight games.

Fantasy Tip: He is a solid option in NL-only leagues and could be a useful DFS option while he is streaking at the plate.

Giants | SF could bring back Angel Pagan

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 11:37:52 -0700

The San Francisco Giants are reportedly willing to re-sign OF Angel Pagan to a short-term deal this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: The 34-year-old Pagan is batting .282 with three home runs, 22 RBI and seven steals through 44 games and would only command a short-term contract offer because of his age and injury history. However, the Giants' pursuit of Pagan could end if the club acquires an outfielder or two before this year's trade deadline.

Giants | Angel Pagan fills up box score

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 23:56:35 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: Since being activated from the disabled list, Pagan is 11-for-36 (.306) with a home run, nine RBI, six runs scored and a pair of steals. He's not a dynamic offensive option in any one area, but he can fill a starting slot in deeper mixed setups.

Giants | Three Giants take a seat

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 08:02:51 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt, OF Angel Pagan and OF Gregor Blanco are out of the lineup Thursday, June 23. OF Mac Williamson is hitting third, C Trevor Brown hits fifth and OF Jarrett Parker hits seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Williamson is hitting .182 on the year, but he's a stud of a basement play today hitting ahead of Buster Posey, who shifted to first base. Brown is hitting .238 this month, but he has some upside for his place in the lineup against Jonathon Niese. Parker doesn't deserve much consideration against the lefty.

Giants | Angel Pagan belts grand slam

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 20:45:59 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan had just one hit in four at-bats Tuesday, June 21, against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but it was a big one. He belted a grand slam in a seven-run fourth inning to give SP Johnny Cueto more than enough support.

Fantasy Tip: Pagan is healthy again and playing regularly. He has managed six RBIs in seven games since returning from the 15-day disabled list June 14, hitting safely in five games. He is once again a solid fantasy play in NL-only fantasy leagues and some deeper mixed formats and DFS play.

Giants | Angel Pagan leading off vs. Pirates

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 12:24:22 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan is leading off against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke Monday, June 20. OF Denard Span is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Pagan is nothing more than a low-end outfielder in deep mixed leagues, but he receives a nice value boost leading off Monday. He's a potential value option in daily contests. Span is struggling in his first season with the Giants, as he has an underwhelming .248/.333/.340 slash line and stole just seven bases in 12 attempts. He's tough to roster outside of deep mixed leagues and NL-only setups.

Giants | Angel Pagan activated

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 16:19:07 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, June 14, and will start in left field against Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza and is batting seventh. OF Jarrod Parker is no longer in the lineup. OF Mac Williamson was optioned to Class AAA Sacramento.

Fantasy Tip: Pagan should be a regular in the starting lineup moving forward. He posted decent numbers before he suffered his injury and should be a solid starting option in most fantasy leagues.

Giants | Angel Pagan nearing return

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 17:25:25 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) remains on track to be activated from the disabled list Wednesday, June 15, but manager Bruce Bochy didn't rule out that could happen a day earlier to have him on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Either way, it's positive news for Pagan, who hasn't played since May 23. While he's normally a fine hand to lean on in deep leagues, owners should keep in mind that the 11-year veteran might have some rust to deal with, as he was struggling mightily before the injury. In fact, he was just 5-for-31 (.161) with only one RBI in 10 games in May.

Giants | Angel Pagan beginning rehab stint

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 16:10:26 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) said he is beginning a rehab assignment with Class AAA Sacramento Saturday, June 11, and hopes to be activated from the disabled list Monday, June 13.

Fantasy Tip: Pagan is a low-end outfield option in the majority of seasonal leagues, as the 34-year-old veteran offers limited upside. He can help in the run, stolen base and batting average columns, though, and he'll receive everyday at-bats. Consider Pagan a viable starter in deep mixed and NL-only setups.
