Minnesota Vikings running backs coach Kirby Wilson was looking to leave the Pittsburgh Steelers because he wants to become an offensive coordinator and did not see that happening with the Steelers. Wilson also did not always get along with offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

Vikings | Kirby Wilson hired

The Minnesota Vikings have hired Kirby Wilson to be their running backs coach. He had served in the same position with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wilson had one more year remaining on his contract with the Steelers but they granted his request to leave.

The Baltimore Ravens have identified former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, Ravens wide receivers coach Jim Hostler and Pittsburgh Steelers running backs coach Kirby Wilson as their four candidates for their offensive coordinator vacancy. Shanahan was interviewed last week and Linehan was interviewed Monday, Jan. 20.

Pittsburgh Steelers RBs coach Kirby Wilson is making a quick recovery after suffering severe burns in a home fire earlier this year. He is expected to return to the team this season. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Kirby is doing great but still has a long, challenging process ahead of him. "The rehabilitation is going well. He has surprised the doctors with his rate of recovery. Obviously, we still have a long way to go but it has been just awesome to watch him go through this process and see the improvement in him," Tomlin said.
