Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said he assured head coach Dennis Allen that his job was not in jeopardy despite reports that Allen was on the hot seat after the team lost eight of its final nine games to finish 4-12 for the second straight year. "It was not an issue with me. I understand how things kind of go in different directions when it gets toward the end of the season throughout the league when (people are) predicting who's going to be in, who's going to be out. I understood all that. But I wasn't going to play into that," McKenzie said.

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen's future with the team is in question, and there appears to be a difference in opinion between Allen and owner Mark Davis on the fate of several assistant coaches. The two will have another meeting Tuesday, Jan. 7, and the main topic will be Allen's vision for the club. Allen wants to keep his assistant coaches with two-year contracts, but he's being met with resistance from Davis, who wants only one-year deals for the coaches. Allen is expected to be kept on as head coach. Only offensive coordinator Greg Olson and linebackers coach Bob M. Sanders are currently under contract.

Fri, 29 Nov 2013 23:50:08 -0800
Oakland Raiders coach Dennis Allen said he intends to stick with QB Matt McGloin as his starting quarterback for now in remarks made at his press conference on Friday, Nov. 29. However, Allen also wants to get another look at QB Terrelle Pryor before this season ends. It is all part of Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie gathering as much information as possible on their quarterback situation before they head into the offseason.
Wed, 20 Nov 2013 13:20:57 -0800
Oakland Raiders QB Matt McGloin will start in the team's Week 12 game, according to head coach Dennis Allen.
Fantasy Tip: Even coming off a start that saw him put up decent numbers, McGloin should only be considered as a bye week replacement in deeper leagues at this point.
Wed, 09 Oct 2013 20:59:33 -0700
Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor has posted a passer rating of 97.6, which ranks behind only Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo, San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan. His completion percentage of 68.3 trails only Manning, Rivers, Romo, Brees and Ryan, and he has a 72.7 completion percentage in the pocket, which is fourth-best in the NFL. "His mechanics have really improved," head coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday, Oct. 9. "He's got a good presence in the pocket, yet can get out and make plays. He's always been a great athlete, but he's getting better as a quarterback."
Fantasy Tip: Pryor has emerged as a low-end No. 1 fantasy option in most leagues of 12 or more teams. He has surprised more than any other fantasy quarterback to this point, as far as success. There are plenty who have surprised by being disappointing.
Wed, 02 Oct 2013 13:59:51 -0700

Mon, 30 Sep 2013 09:11:53 -0700
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen praised RB Rashad Jennings for running hard when he was inserted into the lineup for RB Darren McFadden (hamstring). "He went in there and ran the ball hard," Allen said. "He did an admirable job of filling in for McFadden."
Fantasy Tip: If McFadden misses any time, Jennings is a player to target on the waiver wire as it appears he will be the guy as long as McFadden is out.
Tue, 24 Sep 2013 21:00:05 -0700
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday, Sept. 24, that the team will prepare for QB Terrelle Pryor (concussion) and QB Matt Flynn being the starter for the Week 4 game against the Washington Redskins.
Sat, 14 Sep 2013 06:31:38 -0700
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden is still vital to the Raiders offense, even with QB Terrelle Pryor running the read option offense, according to head coach Dennis Allen. "Darren understands how the read-option functions and when we call those types of plays, and again, that's part of what we do, it's not exclusively what we do," Allen said. "There will be times when we turn around and hand the ball to Darren and give him an opportunity that he knows he's running the football. Darren's going to be fine, guys. Everybody's got a lot of concern about that, but Darren's going to be fine."
Fantasy Tip: Having a quarterback that can run does ding a running backís value a bit. While you still have to start McFadden, keep in mind he may not bring in the same value as he would if he had a traditional signal caller in front of him.
Mon, 26 Aug 2013 17:07:48 -0700
Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said that RB Darren McFadden (shoulder) will "absolutely" be ready for Week 1 of the season. It is not known if he will play in the final preseason game.

Sat, 23 Feb 2013 04:17:19 -0800
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said QBs Carson Palmer and Terrelle Pryor will compete for the team's starting quarterback job; however, Palmer will begin the competition as the No. 1 guy. "Carson goes into the offseason as the starter, certainly," Allen said. "But we will see what happens."
Sat, 26 Jan 2013 05:43:16 -0800
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said defensively is where the team must look to improve the most this offseason. The Raiders will look at the NFL Draft and free agency to address the unit. "Specifically, we have to really work to improve some things defensively to give us an opportunity to play defense the way that we want to be able to play defense," Allen said. "There are some pieces in place. Obviously this year we're not quite as a hamstrung with the draft picks and the salary cap, so we're going to have a little more flexibility to make a few more moves and do a few more things to help us from a personnel standpoint with our team."
Sat, 26 Jan 2013 05:34:03 -0800
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said the team will spend the offseason looking at how to incorporate an offensive scheme around the talents of RB Darren McFadden. "That's one of the things that we're going to look at when we get back to Oakland is we're really going to look at the things that Darren McFadden does really well and we're going to try to ask him to do those things as much as possible, limit the times that we ask him to do some of the things that he may not be as good at," Allen said. "All of us as players have strengths and weaknesses, and we want to try to play to our best players' strengths as much as possible."
Fantasy Tip: Allen's biggest error in his first season as head coach may have been hiring Greg Knapp as his offensive coordinator. Knapp's zone-blocking scheme was not a fit for McFadden; he has shown during his career to be more effective as a downhill runner. The Raiders also didn't exploit McFadden's talents as a receiver enough. Expect those areas to improve in 2013 with a new scheme.
Sat, 26 Jan 2013 05:31:22 -0800
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said new assistant head coach/offensive line Tony Sparano will add an element of toughness to the offense in 2013. "... The thing that most impressed me about his time in Dallas, about his time there in Miami is that he always had some tough football teams," Allen said. "That's the thing that I think he can bring to our team, to our offense, is a sense of toughness. As well as a guy who's been through it; he's been a head coach in this league, he's been a coordinator so there are experiences that he can help us all through."
Thu, 24 Jan 2013 06:54:44 -0800
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said QBs Carson Palmer and Terrelle Pryor will compete for the team's 2013 starting quarterback job, although Allen added he still believes Palmer is an effective starter. "Carson Palmer did an outstanding job for us last year. We feel really good about Carson at the quarterback position moving forward. And obviously, we want to create competition at all levels of our team ... I feel good about Carson. Terrelle did some nice things in the final game of the season last year, and so it will be interesting to see how he does moving forward."
Fantasy Tip: While competition is a good thing and Pryor has some raw ability, expect Palmer to remain the starter heading into the 2013 campaign. His best years are likely behind him, but Palmer nevertheless threw for 4,018 yards with 22 touchdowns this past season. Yes, most of those yards came in garbage time with Oakland playing from behind, but Palmer was also in a scheme that didn't suit his talents as a downfield passer. He should benefit with an improved run game, as the Raiders are returning to a power-running scheme in 2013.
Wed, 09 Jan 2013 05:15:11 -0800
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said he is not looking back to his decision of hiring former offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and his zone-blocking scheme. RB Darren McFadden, in particular, struggled with the scheme, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry in 2012. "I'm not going to look back and try to say what could have, would have, or should have been," Allen said. "I'm looking forward to what we need to do to try to get this team better in the future."

I think he's very instinctive. He's smart out there. He's taken command of the huddle. Those things I've been pleased with. Physically, I think as you look at him, I think what he needs to improve on, and he knows this, is a little bit of the pass coverage aspect."
