Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin may be a June 1 casualty of the salary cap instead of being cut right away. Even though Austin could be cut loose in the next few weeks, the team could save $5.5 million by designating him as a June 1 cut instead.

The Dallas Cowboys may not be able to find a way to restructure the contracts of DE DeMarcus Ware and WR Miles Austin this offseason. Cutting Ware would save the Cowboys $13 million, and Austin is due to make $5.5 million in 2014.

The New York Jets are likely to cut WR Santonio Holmes, which would save the team $8.25 million for 2014. The Jets are thought to have interest in using that money on Pittsburgh Steelers WR Emmanuel Sanders or Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin if either is cut by his respective club.

Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin and QB Kyle Orton could be salary cap casualties. While the team may be able to restructure Orton's deal if he still wants to remain with the team, ESPN.com's Todd Archer believes the writing has been on the wall for a while regarding Austin's departure.

The Dallas Cowboys are not expected to offer WR Miles Austin a pay cut in order to remain with the team. The team is expected to release Austin at some point this offseason.

The Dallas Cowboys are tight against the salary cap, which will likely prevent them from doing anything big in free agency. "It's still tight," vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday afternoon of the salary cap. "I think we always manage through it, but we're still in a tight situation after coming off the penalties ($10 million for violating league rules on WR Miles Austin contract) and the things like that. We're still up against it."
