Mets | Several NYM regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 01 May 2016 07:36:28 -0700

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson, SS Asdrubal Cabrera and 1B Lucas Duda are not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Sunday, May 1. OF Juan Lagares will bat leadoff and play right field, INF Wilmer Flores will bat sixth and play shortstop and INF Eric Campbell will bat eighth and play first base. In addition, C Kevin Plawecki has returned to the lineup and will bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Granderson and Duda are resting because a left-handed pitcher is on the mound, while the switch-hitting Cabrera is receiving his first off day of the regular season. Of the replacements in Sunday's lineup, only Lagares has experienced any success at the plate this year, batting .281 with two extra-base hits and two RBI through his first 32 at-bats. Lagares should be viewed as an inexpensive flier option in daily fantasy contests.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera plays Monday

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 11:28:26 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) went 0-for-3 and played five innings at shortstop in a Grapefruit League game Monday, March 28, for the first time since March 10.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera should be good to go for opening day this Sunday night. He offers some notable power at a position that lacks it, so he's worth a look as middle infield depth in deep mixed leagues in the late rounds.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera to play Monday

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 09:38:19 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) is expected to play in a Grapefruit League game Monday, March 28. He will play four innings at shortstop in a minor-league game Sunday, March 27, after serving exclusively as a designated hitter in minor-league games over the past week.

Fantasy Tip: It turns out that Cabrera wanted to see action in the field prior to facing major leaguers for the first time since March 10, so fantasy owners should not be alarmed about his absence from Sunday's Grapefruit League lineup. He remains on target to play opening day and is a decent middle infield option for the later rounds of drafts in mixed fantasy leagues.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 07:58:31 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) is not in the starting lineup versus the Washington Nationals Sunday, March 27.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera was initially expected to play Sunday, although it is uncertain if he experienced a setback or if the club is erring on the side of caution by keeping him out of the lineup. He should be drafted in the later rounds of mixed fantasy leagues due to his power potential at a position where it's generally hard to find.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera returning Sunday

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 13:47:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) is scheduled to play in a Grapefruit League game Sunday, March 27.

Fantasy Tip: If he plays, the retroactive date of a potential stint on the disabled list would be bumped up to Sunday, so it appears Cabrera is well on his way to being ready to play opening day. New York wouldn't take the risk, otherwise. Cabrera is a late-round target in mixed leagues, especially because of his power upside at a shallow fantasy position. Don't forget, he posted a .328/.372/.544 slash line after the All-Star break last season.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera takes hacks in game

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 09:54:52 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) took six at-bats in a minor league game Thursday, March 24.

Fantasy Tip: It's looking like Cabrera will be ready for opening day barring any sort of setback. His second-half power surge in 2015 should remind you that he does have some pop left in his stick, and at a weak position, that should at least generate some interest as middle infield insurance late in deep mixed leagues.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera could hit soon

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 13:44:34 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) could serve as the designated hitter in minor league games later this week, according to manager Terry Collins. Cabrera would not have to run the bases.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera should have time to be ready for opening day as the Mets' starting shortstop. He has some decent power at a thin position, but everything else won't stand out. Cabrera is middle infield depth for deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera rehab update

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 07:36:37 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) played catch with a trainer and traced pitches in the batting cage Friday, March 18, and it is believed that he will resume hitting in the cage soon. He remains hopeful of being ready for opening day.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera should be viewed as middle infield depth in cavernous mixed and NL-only fantasy leagues because of his power. The 30-year-old hit .265 with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs in 505 at-bats for the Rays in 2015.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera could be ready

Thu, 17 Mar 2016 10:12:56 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) is now expected to be ready for opening day April 3 against the Kansas City Royals after he was diagnosed with a strained patella tendon in his left knee March 10. Cabrera rode a stationary bike Tuesday, March 15, and could move to more activities soon. However, he's likely to be held out of spring action until the Mets are sure he will be ready for opening day. Cabrera could be placed on the disabled list to start the year since his DL stint could be backdated.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets will be cautious with him, but this is good news for his owners. Cabrera has decent pop at a scarce position, but that's about it. He's middle infield depth in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera talks injury

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 05:48:06 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) said "we'll just have to wait and see," when asked whether he would be ready for opening day Sunday, March 13, and added he had trouble walking Saturday, March 12.

Fantasy Tip: Optimism was mounting for Cabrera following his strong second half last year: 37 runs, 10 home runs, 36 RBI and .328/.372/.544 slash line. He'll be joining a better offensive lineup in 2016, too, so the counting stats should benefit. Stay tuned for updates, but at this point, it wouldn't be shocking to see Cabrera miss time and end up on the disabled list to start the campaign. He is a late-round target with upside in mixed leagues.
