New York Giants TE Daniel Fells (foot) had an eighth surgery on his right foot as he battles a MRSA staph infection Wednesday, Nov. 4. There is also a good chance he'll need plastic surgery to fix some of the damage that the infection and treatment have done to his foot. Fells' NFL career is likely over.

New York Giants TE Daniel Fells (foot) appears to be on the right track after undergoing seven surgeries on his foot because of a staph infection. The scans and cultures on Fells' foot are looking good, and it is believed the doctors will not need to amputate the foot. Fells may be released from the hospital this week, but he is scheduled to undergo at least two more surgeries to make sure the infection is gone.

Fells is likely to have more surgery, but there remains optimism about his long-term prognosis. Fells is unlikely to play football again as a result of the infection and the surgery to treat it. Sources with knowledge of Fells' situation confirmed to ESPN that he has undergone five surgical procedures, with more scheduled, in an effort to stop the infection from spreading, but that doctors are hopeful his current course of antibiotics can continue to have the positive effect it has had over the past few days.
