Yankees | Andrew Miller earns save Friday

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 19:50:53 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller earned his 26th save of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, Aug. 14. He allowed one hit and one walk over one scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This game marked the first time in three outings where Miller didn't give up at least one run. He has a 4.50 ERA through six appearances this month but does not appear to be in danger of losing the closer's job.

Yankees | Andrew Miller notches 21st save

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 19:38:31 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller recorded a strikeout without allowing a hit or run in the ninth inning to record his 21st save of the season during the Yankees' 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Miller now has four saves since returning from a forearm injury Wednesday, July 8, as he has picked up right where he left off. He remains a high-end closer due to his stingy ratios (1.44 ERA, 2.13 FIP, 0.70 WHIP and 14.4 K/9).

Yankees | Andrew Miller unavailable Thursday

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 10:30:21 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller will be unavailable in a save situation against the Oakland Athletics Thursday, July 9, according to manager Joe Girardi. Miller threw 30 pitches in his first game back off the disabled list while converting the save Wednesday, July 8. However, Girardi said Miller could be available for back-to-back outings as soon as this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Miller allowed a two-run home run and showed some rust while earning the save against the A's last night. He's the unquestioned closer for the Yanks, but Dellin Betances should still be owned in all formats, as he remains one of the best relievers in baseball regardless of role.

Yankees | Andrew Miller activated from DL

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 15:23:05 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller (forearm) was activated from the disabled list Wednesday, July 8.

Fantasy Tip: Miller will return to the closer role, and he stands to also return to being a top-tier closer. He posted 17 saves with a 1.03 ERA, 1.90 FIP and 0.68 WHIP over 26 1/3 innings with 43 strikeouts before the injury. His return bumps Dellin Betances to a set-up role. However, Betances is worth holding in all formats, as he'll likely add up a few more saves and wins with excellent ratios and all kinds of strikeouts the rest of the way.

Yankees | Andrew Miller likely back Wednesday

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 15:44:40 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller (forearm), who threw a scoreless inning with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Monday, July 6, is likely to be activated from the disabled list before the game Wednesday, July 8, according to manager Joe Girardi. Miller allowed two hits and struck out one in an inning of work Monday. Girardi said Miller will immediately resume his role as the team's closer, with RP Dellin Betances sliding back to the eighth-inning setup role.

Fantasy Tip: Get ready to activate Miller and immediately put him back in your lineups in traditional leagues. Betances should still be owned in all formats even without the save opportunities he was receiving with Miller out.

Yankees | Andrew Miller to rehab Monday

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 14:28:20 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller (forearm) will make a rehab appearance with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Monday, July 6. It's unlikely he'll be activated from the disabled list any earlier than Wednesday, July 8, even if the Yankees decide he only needs one rehab outing. Miller has been out since June 10 with a strained left forearm.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Miller will immediately return to the closer role when he's healthy. Dellin Betances continues to do a fine job in relief and while pitching in the ninth inning with Miller out. Both relievers should continue to be owned in all formats regardless of their role in the late innings.

Yankees | Andrew Miller close to returning

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 11:58:06 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller (forearm) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday, July 4. Manager Joe Girardi said he will be re-evaluated Sunday, July 5, before the next course of action is taken.

Fantasy Tip: Miller is hopeful that he can begin a minor league rehab assignment without having to throw another bullpen session. He is expected to be activated from the disabled list soon, since rehab assignments for relievers are typically brief. Dellin Betances is serving as the Yankees' closer in his absence and he should continue to possess fantasy value even after Miller comes back.

Yankees | No timetable for Andrew Miller

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 10:35:05 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller (forearm) made 25 tosses off flat ground from 60 feet Wednesday, June 24, and he said it was hard to tell if his injury had improved in the session. He's unlikely to return before the All-Star break. Miller said there is no timetable for the next phase of his rehab. He had converted 17 of 18 save chances this year and was sporting an ERA of 1.03.

Fantasy Tip: The Yanks aren't rushing Miller back, but he's unlikely to need a long rehab assignment whenever he starts one. In the meantime, Dellin Betances, who took his first loss Tuesday night, will continue to serve as the primary closer with Miller out. Even when Miller returns, Betances should be valuable to fantasy owners without save opportunities.

Yankees | Andrew Miller to play catch

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 22:41:19 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller (forearm) is expected to play catch Wednesday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: Miller is likely to return sometime in the middle of July. Until then it will be Dellin Betances trying to put out fires in the ninth inning.
