The Texas Rangers would prefer if SP Alexi Ogando won a starting spot in the rotation this spring, but if he doesn't, they know they can use him out of the bullpen. He's no longer dealing with shoulder inflammation that put him on the disabled list last season, either. "His work ethic has picked up. He understands what you have to do to be a starter," manager Ron Washington said."

Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando said he wants to continue working as a starting pitcher. "If I continue to feel the way I do now, I can handle the workload and throw 200 innings," Ogando said. "I've been working hard this winter to do just that."
Fantasy Tip: The Rangers have the luxury of being able to move Ogando back to the bullpen if they see fit. However, the injuries to Derek Holland (knee) and Matt Harrison (back) this spring likely won't allow that to happen. We fully expect Ogando to stay in the rotation if he's healthy.

Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (shoulder) has spent the offseason concentrating on strengthening his shoulder. The 205-pound right-hander experienced no problems during his winter workouts and is hoping to make it through an entire season without suffering an injury for the first time in his career. Ogando had three trips to the disabled list in 2013 because of biceps and shoulder issues.

The Texas Rangers are interested in signing free-agent SP Bartolo Colon (Athletics). Colon went 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA last year for the Oakland Athletics. If he were to sign, it would likely push SP Alexi Ogando out of the rotation and keep P Robbie Ross in the bullpen.

Texas Rangers RPs Joakim Soria, Neftali Feliz and Tanner Scheppers are expected to be candidates for the closer job next season. SP Alexi Ogando could also be an option if the team adds another starting pitcher.

Texas Rangers P Nick Tepesch is expected to make his next turn in the rotation Tuesday, Sept. 17, against the Tampa Bay Rays, rather than P Alexi Ogando. "(Tepesch) is going to prepare to start," manager Ron Washington said Tuesday, Sept. 10. "We have enough arms in the bullpen."

Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando could return to the rotation and start next week. Ogando worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings and got the win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Sunday, Sept. 8. Ogando is 5-4 with a 3.47 ERA this season and has been on the disabled list three times. SPs Nick Tepesch and Travis Blackley are also candidates to start next week.
Fantasy Tip: Ogando's possible start next week is likely to be just a spot start, though, so his value won't increase much for the rest of the season.
