Giants | Ramiro Pena has minor groin injury

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 19:31:54 -0700

San Francisco Giants INF Ramiro Pena (groin) was out of the starting lineup against the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday, July 27, after suffering a groin injury during the previous night's game. However, he did enter the game as a pinch runner.

Fantasy Tip: It appears as though Pena's injury is not serious. He should be owned in NL-only leagues due to his positional versatility and makes a decent source of salary cap relief in DFS when healthy.

Giants | Two Giants out of the lineup

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 16:19:00 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Jarrett Parker and 3B Conor Gillaspie are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Cody Reed Tuesday, July 26. OF Mac Williamson will start in right field and is batting third. 2B Ramiro Pena will start at third base, while 2B Grant Green will start at second base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Williamson is hitting .293 with four home runs and 11 RBI this month and can be an attractive option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Grant is hitting .300 in his limited playing time this season but is still not a great fantasy option.

Giants | Four Giants out of the lineup

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 13:01:09 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Denard Span (neck), OF Angel Pagan (undisclosed), 2B Ramiro Pena (ankle) and 3B Conor Gillaspie are not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray Sunday, July 3. SS Ruben Tejada will start at third base and is batting first. 2B Grant Green will start at second base and is batting second. OF Mac Williamson will start in right field and is batting sixth. C Trevor Brown will start at catcher and is batting eight. C Buster Posey will start at first base, while 1B Brandon Belt will start in left field.

Fantasy Tip: Tejada, Green, Williamson and Brown are not strong fantasy options and owners should be able to find better options to use.

Giants | Ramiro Pena has sprained ankle

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 18:36:33 -0700

San Francisco Giants INF Ramiro Pena (ankle) will remain out of the starting lineup for five to seven days because of a sprained ankle, although he could be available to pinch-hit during this weekend's series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Pena is batting .400 with six RBI through 35 at-bats this season and should be owned in deep NL-only fantasy leagues due to his positional versatility. When healthy, he is also worth considering in DFS as a productive source of salary cap relief.

Giants | Joe Panik out again Wednesday

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 15:38:08 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik (head) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, June 29. 2B Ramiro Pena is starting at the keystone and is hitting eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Sean Manaea.

Fantasy Tip: Panik is in the concussion protocol after concussion symptoms resurfaced for him after being beaned in the head around 10 days ago. There's a chance he could be put on the 7-day concussion DL if his symptoms don't clear soon. Stay tuned for updates. Pena has 14 hits in 34 at-bats (.412) for the Giants this year but only has eight career homers in seven seasons in the majors and is a weak-hitting, low-end DFS pick tonight.

Giants | Ramiro Pena is lone bright spot

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 22:59:57 -0700

San Francisco Giants INF Ramiro Pena went 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI Monday, June 27, against the Oakland Athletics in an 8-3 loss.

Fantasy Tip: Pena was the only bright spot in a very disappointing night for the Giants. Pena is getting more playing time with Matt Duffy sidelined, and he is hitting .414 overall. While he doesn't have much power he is worth scooping up in deeper NL-only fantasy leagues since he is seeing semi-regular playing time and making the most of it.

Giants | Brandon Crawford not starting Monday

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 15:14:39 -0700

San Francisco Giants SS Brandon Crawford (rest) is not in the starting lineup Monday, June 27. SS Ramiro Pena is starting in his place at shortstop and batting seventh versus Oakland Athletics SP Daniel Mengden.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Crawford is simply getting a night off. Pena interestingly has 10 hits in his first 25 at-bats this season as a part-timer, but having not done anything of note since first coming up in 2009, he's someone that shouldn't even be an option for daily formats tonight.

Giants | Joe Panik on the bench

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 11:58:08 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Joe Panik is not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Nola Sunday, June 26. 2B Ramiro Pena will start at second base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Pena is hitting .381 with four RBI since being recalled from the minor leagues earlier in the month. He should be considered a starting option by desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues.

Giants | Ramiro Pena shines in start

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 21:51:15 -0700

San Francisco Giants INF Ramiro Pena went 2-for-5 with a double, run scored and two RBIs Wednesday, June 22, against the Pittsburgh Pirates while starting at third base.

Fantasy Tip: Pena will see occasional starts at the hot corner with Matt Duffy on the shelf, and he isn't a bad short-term option in deeper NL-only fantasy leagues. However, Conor Gillaspie is still expected to see more playing time at third than Pena. He is also a solid low-priced add in DFS play when he draws into the starting nine.

Giants | Ramiro Pena could play hot corner

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 20:38:33 -0700

San Francisco Giants INF Ramiro Pena might see playing time at third base while 3B Matt Duffy (Achilles') is sidelined, although manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday, June 21, that 3B Conor Gillaspie will get "the lion's share" of the starts with Duffy on the shelf.

Fantasy Tip: Pena is worth adding in deeper NL-only fantasy leagues for his positional versatility from an eligibility perspective. He also might emerge as a value play in DFS if he starts to draw some starts.
