Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (ankle) was on crutches Wednesday, Aug. 6, but he is hoping to avoid the disabled list after spraining his left ankle Tuesday, Aug. 5. "We'll keep our fingers crossed that in the next two days the ankle reacts to treatment, and maybe we can hold him out for three or four days and not DL him. But take it one day at a time. I think that's why you use the word undetermined," manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
Fantasy Tip: For now, Simmons will be day-to-day, but if he's unable to return this weekend, the Braves will probably seriously consider putting him on the disabled list. Ramiro Pena replaced Simmons Wednesday, but Emilio Bonifacio could also play the 6 if Simmons is out for a while.

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (undisclosed) is not the starting lineup Thursday, July 24, against the Miami Marlins. SS Ramiro Pena is playing shortstop and hitting eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Remove Simmons from any daily-transaction lineups. He has just three hits since the All-Star break, so it is likely a scheduled rest day to help him refocus.

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Tuesday, May 13, that 2B Tyler Pastornicky will see a majority of the time at second base over the next few days. He wants 2B Ramiro Pena available to come off the bench.
Fantasy Tip: The team has grown tired of waiting for Dan Uggla to hit, and appear to be going a new direction. Pastornicky has also struggled offensively, but perhaps more regular at-bats will get his bat going. For now, he is only worth using in NL-only fantasy play.

The Atlanta Braves are weighing their options for their second base position. They're not going to release 2B Dan Uggla, but he's testing Atlanta's patience. Uggla hasn't started four of the last nine contests as the Braves will continue handing Ramiro Pena and Tyler Pastornicky playing time in the coming weeks. Manager Fredi Gonzalez is unsure how he'll divide playing time between the two, and it's possible prospect Tommy La Stella could factor in eventually.

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez inserted 2B Dan Uggla back into the lineup Tuesday, May 6, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He insisted Monday, May 5, that Uggla's omission was not a "benching," and he said he planned to have him back Tuesday. Fans were upset because Uggla's replacement Monday, INF Ramiro Pena, had a homer and double. "In any sport, your bench players are your bench players for a reason," Gonzalez said. "And I think fans don't understand that."
Fantasy Tip: While Uggla might be skating on relatively thin ice in other places, it sounds like he is on pretty firm ground in Atlanta despite his struggles. However, if he doesn't improve, it is more likely prospect Tommy La Stella gets a call-up rather than shift Pena, whom the team values for his defense at three infield positions.

The Braves struck out 14 times in eight innings against Hernandez the last time they faced him. 2B Ramiro Pena, OF Jordan Schafer, C Ryan Doumit and SS Tyler Pastornicky all received starts.

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (wrist) was scratched from the lineup with a jammed right wrist Thursday, April 11. He's being replaced by INF Ramiro Pena.
Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how serious Simmons' injury is at this time. Check back for updates and replace him in your lineups.

Atlanta Braves 2B Tyler Pastornicky is expected to earn the last bench spot on the active roster after proving this spring that he's healthy following September knee surgery. Pastornicky is 5-for-12 (.417) in five Grapefruit League games. The rest of the bench is likely to include 2B Ramiro Pena, OF Jordan Schafer and Cs Gerald Laird and Ryan Doumit.
