Retired OT Tra Thomas confirmed Wednesday, Aug. 21, that he has been hired as an assistant coach by the Philadelphia Eagles. He had been serving as a coaching intern. "(With 12 years) of wins and losses, I have lessons" to impart, Thomas said.

San Diego Chargers OT Brandyn Dombrowski is going to work with the first-string offense at left tackle, replacing absent OT Marcus McNeill, reports The Associated Press. Veteran OT Tra Thomas will serve as his backup. Dombrowski, who has not played left tackle previously in his career at any level, said he will try to make the best of his opportunity while with the starting unit.

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers said his approach to the upcoming season has not changed despite the potential holdouts of WR Vincent Jackson and OT Marcus McNeill, according to NFL.com. Rivers plans to continue playing at a high level - and expects those teammates filling in to do the same. "Every game I've played, Marcus and Vincent have been out there, so certainly it would be different not to have them," Rivers said. "There at left tackle, we picked up Tra Thomas over the summer, Brandyn Dombrowski is a young player that's really coming along, got some game experience last year. So whatever it is, they're going to play well."
