Royals | Johnny Cueto to start Friday

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 13:20:32 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto will make his debut with his new team against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) proved his health by throwing eight shutout innings against the Colorado Rockies in his last start for the Cincinnati Reds. He's gaining fantasy value with the move to a more pitcher-friendly ball park, but a matchup against the Blue Jays Friday in Toronto may make it tough for him to return any value on FantasyScore.

Royals | Johnny Cueto likely to start Thursday

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 12:28:01 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto appears to be in line to make his first start with his new team against the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) is 3-1 with a 1.59 ERA through five starts this month and is 2-1 with a 3.58 ERA in five outings against American League teams this year. He remains one of the best FantasyScore starting pitching options available, regardless of the uniform he's wearing.

Reds | Johnny Cueto dealt to KC

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 12:11:33 -0700

The Cincinnati Reds have acquired RP Brandon Finnegan and minor league Ps John Lamb and Cody Reed from the Kansas City Royals, in exchange for SP Johnny Cueto and cash considerations.

Fantasy Tip: Finnegan has been used exclusively as a reliever at the major league level but the Reds may opt to turn him back into a full-time starter, a role he excelled at in college. Lamb was 9-1 with a 2.67 ERA in 17 starts for Class AAA Omaha, while Reed was 7-7 with a 2.53 ERA in 18 games (15 starts) for Class AA Wichita. Of the three, Finnegan appears to have the most upside and should be added in NL-only leagues and monitored in deep mixed fantasy leagues.

Royals | KC acquires Johnny Cueto

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 12:07:54 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Kansas City Royals have acquired SP Johnny Cueto and cash considerations from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Ps Brandon Finnegan, John Lamb and Cody Reed.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the change of scenery, Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) should continue to be viewed as an elite starting pitching option in FantasyScore. If anything, a move to the American League might help him, because he will call Kauffman Stadium home instead of the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park.

Royals | Kansas City lands Johnny Cueto

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 08:38:03 -0700

The Kansas City Royals acquired SP Johnny Cueto from the Cincinnati Reds Sunday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: While other specifics of the deal will surface, fantasy owners should be happy to see Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) join the team with the best record in the American League. The Royals also boast the bullpen with the lowest ERA in the majors, and are a top defensive club. Cueto will now call Kauffman Stadium his home, which is a enviornment upgrade over Great American Ball Park, too. Everything turns up aces for Cueto in this deal. Continue to view him as a fantasy ace with the potential to finish the season out among the elite arms statistically.

Royals | Kansas City nearly added Johnny Cueto

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 06:44:48 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto was close to being traded to the Kansas City Royals, but the deal fell apart when one of the players that would have been acquired by Cincinnati did not check out medically, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) likely will be traded before the trade deadline, so owners should keep an eye out on where he will pitch next. Cueto has been one of the better pitchers over the last few seasons and should be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Reds | Royals interested in Johnny Cueto?

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 08:21:35 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto could be a target of the Kansas City Royals, sources have told Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8.900, 17.8% of cap) struggled in two straight starts and has been inconsistent over his last seven, dating back to June 12. Combined with reports that his velocity being down, and fantasy owners should be cautious about acquiring him. A move to the pitcher-friendly confines of Kauffman Stadium and the contending Royals would be a significant boost to his fantasy value if he is healthy. AL-only players would have a fine waiver wire target to acquire.

Reds | Johnny Cueto sounding alarms

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 08:59:53 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto's last start in which he walked six batters gave one team interested in him pause. The executive said "yes, everything," when asked if they saw anything to be alarmed with about his last start Sunday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) missed a short stint with inflammation in his elbow, and his control was way off in his last start. You might consider passing on him for his next turn on FantasyScore.

Orioles | BAL interested in Reds' Cueto, Bruce

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 06:28:04 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto and OF Jay Bruce are two players the Baltimore Orioles have expressed interest in.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) is a top-flight consideration on FantasyScore every time his turn comes around. Bruce's ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) .252-14-46 line is on par with his career numbers. He's an above-average option on FantasyScore.

Reds | Johnny Cueto has control issues

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 16:51:13 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto allowed two runs on four hits and walked a season-high six in four innings against the Cleveland Indians Sunday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) has been excellent this year, and the poor command could be chalked up the trade rumors swirling around him. Consider this a one-time thing for now and continue to use him at FantasyScore against most opponents.
