Giants | Johnny Cueto spins seven-inning win

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 05:47:14 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over 7 1/3 innings during the Giants' 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto has won all three of his starts this season and owns a 3.38 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP while returning 19 punchouts through 21 1/3 innings. He projects to continue being a fringe ace or solid No. 2 arm for your fantasy rotation. His next start is scheduled against the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday, April 21, and while it might not be the best spot to utilize him in daily contests, Cueto remains a sound option in seasonal leagues.

Dodgers | Yasiel Puig enjoys rare day off

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 15:55:49 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig is not in the lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto on Saturday, April 16. OF Trayce Thompson will occupy his spot in right field and bat eighth. 2B Chase Utley and SS Corey Seager are both back in the lineup after a day off and hitting first and second, respectively. C Yasmani Grandal will make his third appearance of the season behind the plate and bat fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Puig was due a rest after playing in each of the Dodgers' first 11 games, while Utley returns to the lineup against a right-hander after the Dodgers faced southpaws the last two days. Seager should be plugged right back into all lineups, while Grandal should probably be left on benches for now after coming off the disabled list earlier this week. On a side note, DFS players will be happy to know the red-hot Enrique Hernandez, who homered twice off Madison Bumgarner on Friday, will remain in the lineup.

Giants | Johnny Cueto feels fine

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 14:44:30 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (knee, back) said he feels fine and will do his normal between-starts bullpen session after taking a fall in his last outing Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto's last start against the Dodgers was a failure after he allowed six runs and 10 hits in seven innings. He should be fine to make his next start at the Colorado Rockies, but that's an environment that should make you hesitant to rely on him.

Giants | Johnny Cueto good against Milwaukee

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 16:36:29 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto was 8-0 with a 2.16 ERA against the Milwaukee Brewers in his first 11 starts against them at home when he was with the Cincinnati Reds. However, he was 1-3 with a 4.19 ERA in seven starts against them on the road, where he faces them Tuesday, April 5, but he only pitched their once since 2012. Cueto has beaten the Brewers the last six times he's faced them.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto has been known to struggle on the road in his career, but this is a game in which you should trust him. The Brewers are a rebuilding squad and will often be the target of pitching streams in 2015. Trust Cueto and start him tonight.

Giants | Johnny Cueto should throw Sunday

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 11:27:29 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (head) is expected to throw in the minors Sunday, March 20. The Giants can then keep him from pitching against the Colorado Rockies and will control his pitchers per inning.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Cueto has avoided serious injury to his head and should be good to go for his first start of the regular season. If Cueto can stay healthy with his new club, he has top-20 fantasy pitcher potential.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (head) was able to take part in drills Wednesday, March 16, two days after being hit in the head with a line drive. Manager Bruce Bochy said he sees no problem with Cueto making his next start.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto will be just fine for the regular season opener, and he is a solid fantasy addition in the early to middle rounds on draft day.

Giants | Johnny Cueto continues to progress

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 12:15:32 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (head) still has no signs of a concussion and continues to be doing well, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Cueto is going to avoid injury after being clipped in the head with a line drive Monday, March 14. The veteran has fringe No. 1 starter upside entering 2016, and given his second-half struggles last year have cooled his hype, Cueto is a potential steal in the early middle rounds. Remeber, he entered 2015 with a 2.73 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and a 7.4 K/9 over his previous five seasons and is now pitching in a better home environment.

Giants | Johnny Cueto is fine

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 10:16:22 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (head) is "doing fine" Tuesday, March 15, after being hit in the forehead with a line drive Monday, March 14, according to his agent, Bryce Dixon.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto is undergoing concussion tests as a precaution, but it looks like he dodged a bullet here. Cueto didn't fare to well with his move to the American League last year, but he moves back to the National League and in a pitcher-friendly park, so he should rebound nicely. Consider him a fine second fantasy hurler.

Giants | Johnny Cueto to be checked out

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 22:37:50 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (head) was clipped by a line drive in the Cactus League spring game Monday, March 14. He was hit in the head, but able to stay in after being checked by a trainer. However, he will be checked for concussion, per team policy.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto was obviously not injured too much, as he was able to stay in and finish his three innings. If you have already drafted him, or plan on drafting him, this minor issue shouldn't keep him sidelined for long, if at all.
