Giants | Johnny Cueto cruises to road win

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 20:45:25 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto allowed just one earned run, four hits and a walk over 6 2/3 innings in a victory Tuesday, June 21, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also struck out six batters in the 105-pitch quality start.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto improved to 7-0 in 10 starts against the Pirates since the start of the 2013 season, with a bulk of that work coming when he was a member of the Cincinnati Reds. He also moves to 5-0 at PNC Park during the span. Jot that down, or make a mental note, for the next time the Giants visit the Steel City in 2017.

Giants | Johnny Cueto wins seventh straight

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:53:18 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto won his seventh straight decision Wednesday, June 15, against the Milwaukee Brewers. The right-hander was simply dazzling in seven sharp innings, issuing only one run on seven hits and a walk. He also recorded nine strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Remember when Cueto allowed six runs in two of his first six assignments? Since then, Johnny Beisbol has settled in beautifully, having registered eight consecutive quality starts, including his excellent performance this afternoon. With the way he's going right now, owners just need to slot him into the starting lineup every time he toes the rubber without any hesitation whatsoever.

Giants | Johnny Cueto's scoreless streak snapped

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 23:47:57 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto had a string of 29 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings at home snapped when he balked home a run in the first against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, June 10. He allowed two runs on three hits with eight K's in eight innings.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto matched Clayton Kershaw pitch for pitch, but Kershaw got the W when Santiago Casilla served up a gopher ball to Justin Turner in the ninth. Cueto remains one of the top fantasy hurlers out there.

Giants | Johnny Cueto should make next start

Mon, 30 May 2016 10:07:53 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (back, side) should be able to make his next start even though he is dealing with some injuries, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto has pitched very well in his first season with Giants, but owners should monitor the situation to see if he suffers any setbacks. Cueto should be a starting candidate in all leagues as long as he is healthy.

Giants | Sore back for Johnny Cueto

Sun, 29 May 2016 20:17:59 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto (back) dealt with a sore back that was stretched frequently between innings, but he made it through six innings in a win over the Colorado Rockies, allowing one earned run on six hits while walking two and striking out five Sunday, May 29.

Fantasy Tip: The fact that the Giants let Cueto stay in the game would seem to indicate that the back issue isnít too serious. That being said, monitor the situation to make sure is able to make his next start.

Giants | Johnny Cueto goes the distance again

Mon, 23 May 2016 23:21:59 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto allowed two hits and struck out six in his second complete-game win Monday, May 23, over the San Diego Padres. It was his second shutout of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto is 3-0 with a 2.11 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP and 34 K's in 38 1/3 innings this month. He has had some favorable matchups, and this tear could be aided by that. We don't think he'll fall off a cliff the rest of the way, but it's the optimal time to sell high on him.

Giants | Johnny Cueto goes the distance

Wed, 18 May 2016 23:00:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto allowed a run on four hits and two walks while fanning eight in a complete-game win over the San Diego Padres Wednesday, May 18.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto has had two bad outings in his nine starts, and his 2.70 ERA would be 1.31 if you eliminated those. He has a 1.10 WHIP and a 8.24 K/9. He's a superb SP2 and is worth DFS consideration each time his turn comes up.

Giants | Johnny Cueto continues to shine

Fri, 13 May 2016 05:17:23 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto won for the fifth time in six decisions on Thursday, May 12, in a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He allowed two runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: So far Cueto has lived up to his $130 million contract signed in the offseason. Of course there is still plenty of time for things to change, but so far so good. Cueto has gone at least seven innings in all but one of his outings, so durability remains a positive. He is highly recommended in all fantasy formats.
