Rays | Desmond Jennings out Thursday

Thu, 26 May 2016 09:11:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 26. OF Corey Dickerson draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting seventh against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez. Also, SS Taylor Motter is playing third base and batting eighth with 3B Evan Longoria serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson and Motter have some pop, but neither is a strong choice in daily play today against Fernandez, who has a 3.02 ERA and 78 K's in just 53 2/3 innings.

Rays | Evan Longoria has streak snapped

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 22:23:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria went hitless in four at-bats Wednesday, April 20, against the Boston Red Sox to snap his 15-game hitting streak at Fenway Park.

Fantasy Tip: Longo will get a crack at former teammate David Price. He is hitless in nine career at-bats with three strikeouts in their prior dealings. Despite the small sample size, Longoria might not be a great DFS option for Thursday's game.

Rays | Evan Longoria will play Saturday

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 06:11:55 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria (shin) will serve as the designated hitter against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, March 19.

Fantasy Tip: Longoria has been sidelined for a few days because of a shin injury but appears to be fine. He is coming off a 2015 season where he recorded a .270 batting average and 21 home runs. Longoria is still a decent option in mixed leagues and could be a middle-round option.

Rays | No serious injury for Evan Longoria

Thu, 17 Mar 2016 13:51:10 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria (shin) was sore but walking around fine and did not require X-rays following his early departure from the game Thursday, March 17, according to manager Kevin Cash. Cash added Longoria could serve as the designated hitter Friday, March 18.

Fantasy Tip: Longoria has missed just four games over the past three seasons and averaged 83 runs, 25 home runs, 84 RBI and a .264/.331/.446 slash line. However, entering his age-30 season, Longoria is likely eyeing the twilight of his offensive prime, if he isn't completely past it. He is a suitable middle-round option at the hot corner, but you shouldn't make him a priority in the early middle rounds.

Rays | Evan Longoria makes changes

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 14:49:21 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria said he is moving away from a leadership role on the team this year, as it wore him down mentally in 2015, and he put too much pressure on himself. Longoria also said he feels fine physically after dealing with wrist and other nagging injuries. He added some bulk to his frame by going back to his previous routine. Longoria showed up this spring weighing around 212 pounds. He's also hoping going back to yoga will help him.

Fantasy Tip: Longoria has seen his numbers decline for two straight years, and he no longer has that tantalizing power and patience combination at the dish. There remains power in his bat, and you can be hopeful for a rebound, but he's no longer an elite fantasy third baseman.
