Giants | Tim Lincecum expected to start Thursday

Sat, 29 Mar 2014 20:15:19 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Tim Lincecum (knee) reported no ill effects Saturday, March 29, after being hit on the inside of the left knee by a liner in a spring game Friday, March 28. Manager Bruce Bochy said Lincecum is expected to make his first scheduled start of the regular season Thursday, April 3.

Giants | Hector Sanchez to see time at 1B

Wed, 12 Mar 2014 19:03:20 -0700

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy used C Hector Sanchez at first base in the Cactus League spring game Wednesday, March 12, and it gives him another option in case 1B Brandon Belt should go down to an injury. "He did an outstanding job," pitcher Tim Lincecum said. Sanchez lost 20 pounds during the offseason, and his versatility and flexibility is pleasing to his skipper.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez would have slightly more fantasy appeal in NL-only leagues if he gains eligibility at first base, but he still needs a long-term injury to either Brandon Belt or Buster Posey to have any real appeal.

Giants | Tim Lincecum remaking self

Wed, 12 Mar 2014 09:46:10 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Tim Lincecum spent the offseason changing his approach to pitching. "Now, I'm not trying to get the 10 punchies. I want to get my outs and get through the game, and that's just as gratifying to me as the days I would dominate. It's a different kind of domination to me." The right-hander discussed his realization that he can't get by on his athleticism alone anymore. He says he's become more willing to accept the negative results that come with positive results and his need to throw more strikes in order to be successful.

Fantasy Tip: It's a fascinating little feature, as they usually are, from Jeff Passan. Every pitcher goes through some phase like this, when he must reconcile his diminished physical gifts with his grasp of the craft or face MLB extinction. Lincecum apparently intends to pitch to contact more often. Not a bad thing. It may come with rough patches, but there's reason to think that he could take another step forward from his modest 2013 rebound for those looking for late-round upside.

Giants | Tim Lincecum made offseason adjustment

Mon, 17 Feb 2014 14:14:05 -0800

San Francisco Giants SP Tim Lincecum, who typically doesn't throw off a mound at all in the offseason, decided that change that up this winter. "I just felt like more throwing would be the best thing I could do for myself, not necessarily throwing hard, but getting good mechanics and the feel of that ball coming out of my hand from an earlier part of the offseason," Lincecum said. Manager Bruce Bochy said Lincecum looked free and easy Monday, Feb. 17, and he threw all his pitches.
