Angels | Tim Lincecum wins in return

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 18:25:17 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum picked up the win in his first start since 2015, allowing one run on four hits while walking two and striking out two over six innings in a win over the Oakland Athletics Saturday, June 18.

Fantasy Tip: Lincecum is sure to be a popular addition based on his name alone, but don't drop a proven option to gamble on Lincecum.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt serving as DH Saturday

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 12:20:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is getting another break from his regular catching duties and will bat third as the designated hitter against Los Angeles Angels SP Tim Lincecum on Saturday, June 18. C Josh Phegley will get the start behind the plate and hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt isn't hurting his owners in any particular category by batting .265 with five homers and 16 RBI but more was expected out of him after hitting .261 with 18 home runs and 71 RBI in 2015. He has two homer and 10 RBI since the start of May, which is very poor production for a player who spends most of his time batting third, fourth or fifth. Owners probably have little choice but to continue starting him in their lineups, but DFS players can do better.

Angels | Tim Lincecum to start Saturday

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 23:06:11 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum will make his 2016 debut on Saturday, June 18, against the Oakland Athletics. Lincecum last pitched in the majors on June 27, 2015.

Fantasy Tip: No one knows which version of Lincecum we're going to get, but he's a big name whose return should generate plenty of interest. The savvy thing to do would be to wait and see how he performs. If you're optimistic and have roster space, however, you can roll the dice and add Lincecum in the hope he's closer to the Cy Young incarnation.

Angels | Tim Lincecum to join Angels

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 16:28:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum will "definitely" be added to the team's rotation for this weekend's series opposite the Oakland Athletics, according to manager Mike Scioscia. He'll "probably" go Saturday, June 18.

Fantasy Tip: Lincecum just capped off his stint at Class AAA Salt Lake with an outstanding outing that saw him register seven scoreless innings and eight strikeouts, while allowing only one hit and one walk. As a result, he should be scooped up immediately in deep leagues, and he'll have potential to contribute in standard formats as well.

Angels | Tim Lincecum looks sharp

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 15:23:29 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum was fabulous in his third minor league start for Class AAA Salt Lake Sunday, June 12, throwing seven scoreless innings and recording eight strikeouts. He allowed only one hit and one walk, throwing 89 pitches in all, 57 of which went for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Lincecum could very easily become a popular waiver wire addition in the coming days, so owners might need to take initiative right away on the former back-to-back NL Cy Young winner. It's possible he even joins the major league club this weekend, and based on how he's looked in the minors thus far, he could end up being a valuable contributor to fantasy teams of all formats. At the very least, he's worth a flier immediately in deeper leagues.

Angels | Tim Lincecum wants another tune-up

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 22:01:03 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum wants another outing in the minors before he makes his debut with the big club, manager Mike Scioscia said Wednesday, June 8. He will make a third tune-up start with Class AAA Salt Lake Sunday, June 12, with his first start with the big team potentially coming June 17 or 18 against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners will want to wait to see how he responds in his first start or two before taking a chance on him. He might be worth a look in AL-only fantasy leagues for his strikeout potential, and he could be a great value initially in DFS.

Angels | Manager encouraged by Tim Lincecum

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 15:56:04 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum's finish to his start with Class AAA Salt Lake Tuesday, June 7, impressed manager Mike Scioscia. "If he can maintain what he showed after he found it, after the first inning, we're going to be very excited," Scioscia said about Lincecum Wednesday, June 8.

Fantasy Tip: Take a wait-and-see approach with Lincecum in most leagues, but in cavernous mixed and AL-only setups, his strikeout upside could be worth starting him in his Angels debut. It appears Lincecum will make one more start in the minors before joining the Los Angeles rotation. Stay tuned for updates.

Angels | Tim Lincecum solid in tuneup

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 13:43:33 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum threw five innings Tuesday, June 7, for Class AAA Salt Lake. He allowed three hits and two earned runs, with two walks and six strikeouts. Lincecum threw 59 of his 95 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: For a team that could use some pitching help, Lincecum looks like he might be ready to give the Angels a boost. Give him one or two starts once Lincecum reaches the big leagues to see what happens, and then proceed from there.

Angels | Tim Lincecum makes rehab start

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 07:23:21 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum (hip) allowed three runs and three hits in five innings of his first rehab start with Class AAA Salt Lake Thursday, June 2. It was his first game since having hip surgery last September. Lincecum retired nine straight at one point. He struck out five and walked three and also balked in a run with the bases loaded in the first inning. His fastball was consistently in the 88-89 mph range. Lincecum is scheduled to make one more start Tuesday, June 7, and then rejoin the Angels June 12 to face the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Lincecum is far removed from being they Cy Young pitcher he was with the Giants, but he could still offer fantasy owners something of value if he enters the Angels' rotation in short order. He'll need to rely on pinpoint control to keep hitters off balance now that his velocity isn't a strength in his arsenal. He should be added in AL-only leagues if he's given a rotation spot, but those in deep mixed leagues may want to take a wait-and-see approach.

Angels | Tim Lincecum throws extended spring game

Sat, 28 May 2016 23:16:43 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum threw 75 pitches in five innings of an extended spring training game Saturday, May 28. He is expected to make a rehab start Thursday, June 2, for Class AAA Salt Lake. The Angels hope he can join the rotation by mid-June.

Fantasy Tip: Wait and see how Lincecum does in his start before you decide how to pursue him. For now, deep dynasty and keeper leagues are a good place to start as Lincecum is around three weeks (at best) from returning.
