Orioles | No Matt Wieters vs. Jay Birds

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 12:49:31 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 17. C Francisco Pena is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters is having a mediocre season and checks out as a viable starter in the majority of leagues with six home runs, 28 RBI and a .256/.309/.415 slash line to date. He does have a .278/.319/.472 line since Sunday, May 1, too. Pena is a potential low-priced flier in daily contests Friday, but he doesn't receive enough starts to move the needle in seasonal formats.

Orioles | Baltimore sitting four starters

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 09:01:03 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Hyun-soo Kim, C Matt Wieters, 3B Pedro Alvarez and 2B Ryan Flaherty are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Saturday, June 11. OF Mark Trumbo will serve as the designated hitter, while OF Joey Rickard will start in right field and is batting second. OF Nolan Reimold will start in left field and is batting seventh. C Francisco Pena will start at catcher and is batting eighth, while SS Paul Janish will start at third base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Rickard and Reimold have posted solid numbers against left-handed pitchers this season and can be decent options in daily fantasy leagues against Happ. Pena has gone 5-for-11 with one home run and two RBI since joining the Orioles and should also have some value in daily leagues. Janish has struggled at the plate this season and should be avoided.

Orioles | Matt Wieters not starting Tuesday

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 12:22:40 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not starting Tuesday, June 7, against the Kansas City Royals. C Francisco Pena will start and bat eighth against Royals SP Yordano Ventura.

Fantasy Tip: With the injury to Caleb Joseph, the team still wants to get Wieters ample chances to rest, so this is strictly an off night. Pena has done a fine job hitting the ball in his limited action, with four hits in seven at-bats. Pena should not be activated in regular leagues, but he may be worth a daily pickup.

Orioles | Caleb Joseph to DL

Tue, 31 May 2016 11:43:18 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph (testicle) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a testicular injury suffered in the team's game Monday, May 30. C Francisco Pena was recalled from Class AAA Norfolk on Tuesday, May 31, in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph's injury will create a small hole in the Oriole catching corps for the foreseeable future. Look for Matt Wieters to move from a DH role to one where he serves more as a catcher. Pena does not have a ton of fantasy value, except maybe in DFS leagues if he starts and hits. Otherwise, leave him alone.
