Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) allowed three runs, six hits and three walks while striking out two batters over 3 1/3 innings in his second minor-league rehab outing for Double-A Frisco Monday, April 14. "It just wasn't a good night," Harrison said. "Forty-five degrees weather, the wind was blowing. I let a lot of things get in my head. Going up there, getting rained out, sitting around, freezing weather - I just wasn't motivated." Harrison is scheduled to pitch Saturday, April 19, for Frisco or Triple-A Round Rock, and the goal is to throw 95 pitches. The team will then determine whether he's ready to be activated.

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) said his rehab start for Double-A Frisco Monday, April 14, was not a success because he didn't have his breaking pitch in poor weather conditions.
Fantasy Tip: The main takeaway is that Harrison got through the outing without a setback. He'll likely have a few more rehab starts, at least, but look for him to return to the Rangers in a few weeks.

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) threw 62 pitches for Double-A Frisco Tuesday, April 8, and allowed one run in 4 2/3 innings. His fastball was clocked between 89 and 91 mph, and he had good life on all his pitches. Harrison is optimistic that he'll be able to return to the rotation later this month. "My timing was there for the most part," Harrison said. "I got a little bit tired at the end there. I had to make some plays and was able to do that without any issues. It's a step in the right direction. I just need to keep building off of this." He'll throw a bullpen in a few days and then make another rehab start for Frisco Sunday, April 13.
Fantasy Tip: Keep Harrison on your watch list for later this month if you are looking to add a starting pitcher in deep mixed or AL-only leagues.

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the team will not rush SP Matt Harrison (back) back to the rotation. The team has until May 2 to bring him back to the majors. "We've said he should be built up by April 23, but that's not a deadline," Daniels said. "We want to make sure he's 100 percent and able to compete. Really, when he's 100 percent he should be able to dominate before he comes back."
