Red Sox | Sean O'Sullivan designated

Tue, 17 May 2016 09:10:51 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Sean O'Sullivan was designated for assignment Monday, May 16. INF Marco Hernandez was recalled from the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: O'Sullivan wasn't very effective for Boston, sporting a 7.94 ERA while making two fill-in starts. The Red Sox are making room in their rotation for the impending return of Eduardo Rodriguez (knee). Rodriguez is a promising young pitcher with plenty of strikeout upside. Grab him now if he's still available in your league.

Red Sox | Sean O'Sullivan picks up victory

Tue, 10 May 2016 20:30:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Sean O'Sullivan allowed four runs, 12 hits and no walks with three strikeouts over six innings in a win against the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, May 10.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the win, he wasn't particularly sharp and was very hittable. He just happened to get a lot of run support. He is only worth rostering in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues if he makes more starts in Beantown.

Red Sox | No decision on Eduardo Rodriguez

Mon, 09 May 2016 13:42:46 -0700

It's unknown when Boston Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) will be activated from the disabled list for his next start. SP Sean O'Sullivan is starting against the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, May 10.

Fantasy Tip: The lefty Rodriguez has big-time potential. He showed us a glimpse with a 10-6 record, 3.85 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 7.2 strikeouts per nine innings in his rookie year in 2015. Rodriguez should be owned at least in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, so scoop him up if he's still out there. O'Sullivan is just making a spot start and is a desperation play in daily formats tomorrow.

Red Sox | Henry Owens sent down to work on command

Sat, 07 May 2016 19:37:11 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Henry Owens was demoted to Class AAA Pawtucket Friday, May 6, and manager John Farrell said Owens needs to work on commanding his fastball with more consistency. In a corresponding move, SP Sean O'Sullivan's contract was selected.

Fantasy Tip: Owens is just 23 years old, so he has more than enough time to figure things out and realize his potential. That being said, it is tough to justify holding on to him outside of AL-only leagues.

Phillies | Sean O'Sullivan sent down

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 06:36:17 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Sean O'Sullivan was outrighted to Class AAA Lehigh Valley Monday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: O'Sullivan had a rough rotation stint with a 6.08 ERA, and it's hard to see him regaining his spot after the All-Star break. If he was still on your NL-only team, cut him loose.

Phillies | Offense not helping Sean O'Sullivan

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 13:34:09 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Sean O'Sullivan has seen the team score an average of 2.08 runs per game during his starts, which is the lowest average in MLB for a pitcher that has thrown at least 50 innings.

Fantasy Tip: O'Sullivan ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has not thrown more than six innings in any of his starts this season and has allowed at least four runs in three of his last five starts. Owners on FantasyScore should avoid using O'Sullivan at this point.

Phillies | Sean O'Sullivan ready for Baltimore

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 18:23:20 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Sean O'Sullivan is the probable starter for Thursday, June 18, against the Baltimore Orioles. He has worked at least six innings in each of his past two outings, and at least 5 2/3 innings in six straight starts.

Fantasy Tip: O'Sullivan ($3,300; or 6.6% of cap) might be working deeper into games, but he still has a 5.60 ERA in three outings in June, and a 5.08 ERA in nine starts overall. Still, he could be a low-end FantasyScore option with upside since he faces the equally shaky Bud Norris of the Orioles.

Phillies | Sean O'Sullivan remains winless

Tue, 12 May 2015 21:35:17 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Sean O'Sullivan (knee) returned from the 15-day disabled list to start Tuesday, May 12, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He allowed three runs on five hits over five innings.

Fantasy Tip: O'Sullivan is winless since May 12, 2011, going 0-9 with a 7.19 ERA in 18 appearances (13 starts). Needless to say, even at a tempting price of $3,300 (or 6.6% of cap) in FantasyScore he has very little appeal.

Phillies | Sean O'Sullivan to start Tuesday

Mon, 11 May 2015 22:46:58 -0700

The Philadelphia Phillies will activate SP Sean O'Sullivan (knee) from the 15-day disabled list and he will start Tuesday, May 12, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players should steer far clear of O'Sullivan until he can prove his health in a full start or two. It will be his first start since mid-April due to knee tendinitis.

Phillies | Sean O'Sullivan placed on DL

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 20:45:07 -0700

The Philadelphia Phillies placed SP Sean O'Sullivan (back) on the 15-day disabled list due to a back injury Wednesday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: O'Sullivan will be replaced in the rotation Thursday against the Marlins by Dustin McGowan, who will pitch three or four innings before turning it over to another reliever. At $3,000 (or 6.0% of cap) O'Sullivan should be avoided until he is 100 percent healthy and facing a favorable ultra-matchup.
