The Colorado Rockies are placing OF Michael Cuddyer (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list and are bringing up OF Charlie Culberson in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: The Rockies have options to replace Cuddyer in right field in Culberson, Corey Dickerson and Drew Stubbs. Expect Dickerson to benefit the most, but the at-bats probably won't be consistent enough for mixed leaguers.

Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss said he plans to rotate players in center field, despite the fact that OF Charlie Blackmon has started there three times in the first five games. OF Corey Dickerson is another left-handed option, and OFs Drew Stubbs and Brandon Barnes swing from the right side. "We'll mix and match," said Weiss. "We have a lot of options. If a guy doesn't start, he can come into the game later as a pinch-hitter, pinch-runner or for defense."
Fantasy Tip: Blackmon is hot to start the season, but the other outfielders will see plenty of chances. Owning any of these options is tough to do in standard mixed leagues because of the uncertainty of PT on a daily basis.

Colorado Rockies OF Drew Stubbs struck out 14 times in 48 Cactus League spring at-bats, but he also hit .354 with an on-base percentage of .415. The team is hopeful it is a sign of a turnaround for Stubbs, who managed a .233 average last season in 146 games.
Fantasy Tip: The Rockies outfield is awfully crowded, with as many as four outfielders jockeying for playing time alongside Michael Cuddyer and Carlos Gonzalez. Stubbs is only worth a look in deeper NL-only fantasy formats, especially those which do not penalize strikeouts.

The Colorado Rockies' competition for center field could last until late in spring training, said manager Walt Weiss. He made a point of singling out OF Brandon Barnes, whom he thinks "gets left out" of discussions about this battle. The right-handed batter is hitting .346. Fellow righty stick Drew Stubbs went 2-for-3 with an RBI on Tuesday, March 11, and is batting .278. He's not a certain candidate to hit leadoff when in the lineup; he hit fifth Tuesday and has moved around the lineup throughout spring action. Left-handed batter Corey Dickerson singled, and he's now hitting .346. Charlie Blackmon is hitting .227 and didn't play.
Fantasy Tip: Dickerson has the biggest potential of these four and should be your first fantasy target. The fact he hits on the majority platoon side helps his cause. Barnes could eat into Stubbs' at-bats if he keeps gaining favor. Blackmon seems like he's bringing up the rear in this race.

Colorado Rockies OF Drew Stubbs (throat) has not played the last two days due to an esophagus condition. However, he said he could have played Friday, Feb. 28, if needed. He's dealing with eosinophilic esophagitis, and the symptoms include heartburn, food being trapped and difficulty swallowing. Stubbs was treated at a hospital Wednesday, Feb. 26, but he has been building strength the last few days.

Colorado Rockies OFs Drew Stubbs, Corey Dickerson and Brandon Barnes will compete for the starting center field job during spring training.

Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss said the plan is still for OF Carlos Gonzalez to play center field this season, but he could change his mind. Whatever decision that is made will be final. "We have options, and it's smart for the manager to know he can count on his players," Gonzalez said. "I'm ready to play center field or left field, wherever they need me. When they traded Dexter to Houston, that was their best option. But now we have more depth, plus Drew Stubbs, who is a pure center fielder. It's good."

The Cincinnati Reds tried to use OF Drew Stubbs as their leadoff man early in his career, but his high strikeout rate scuttled the experiment. He is now with the Colorado Rockies, and is considered a candidate for the leadoff spot. However, manager Walt Weiss said he likely sees him down the down a bit. "I wouldn't say I rule it out, but on the surface, when I look at the club, I probably see him right after the middle of the order, somewhere down there," Weiss said Monday, Feb. 17.

Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Monday, Feb. 17, that OF Carlos Gonzalez could remain in left field after the team acquired OF Drew Stubbs, who is a center fielder by trade. For now, Gonzalez is in center field, but Weiss said he reserves the right to change his mind. He said Gonzalez will not go back and forth. "We've got him in center right now. That's the plan. We have a lot of options in the outfield. We have a lot of flexibility. We have a lot of good players competing out there. We have a lot of options in center field. I understand that," Weiss said.

Colorado Rockies OF Corey Dickerson will compete with fellow left-handed batter OF Charlie Blackmon for at-bats and starts in the outfield. The Rockies also brought in OF Drew Stubbs, who is under a one-year, $4.1 million contract, so the team is likely to try and find playing time for him. The team also added OF Brandon Barnes during the offseason, and he was the starting center field for much of last season for the Houston Astros. Many of the available at-bats are likely to come from the leadoff spot.
Fantasy Tip: Whomever emerges at the top of Colorado's lineup will be a useful fantasy option, as they'll be tapping the plate frequently after being knocked around by the likes of Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki in the middle of the lineup.
