San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy spent the offseason working on a mirror drill designed to make sure his left hip stays aligned with home plate to allow his front side to stay closed as long as possible. Pitching coach Darren Balsley suggested the drill to Kennedy, and Balsley also wants Kennedy to work slower in his delivery. "I felt it, but it was hard for me to change it. I felt I was under the ball a lot. It wasn't on top. When I feel that, I felt I was pushing the ball constantly," Kennedy said. "When I was throwing good … I felt I was on top of the ball. But every third outing or so, I was pushing it for some reason."
Fantasy Tip: Kennedy's skills from his excellent 2011 season are still intact. His HR/FB rate last year looks like an outlier, and with more attention to detail at PETCO, he should improve on 2013 rather easily.

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy said he had a flaw in his mechanics in 2013. Pitching coach Darren Balsley suggested to Kennedy to stay back on the rubber a bit longer to allow him to finish his leg kick. "I was cutting it short and pushing the ball," Kennedy said. "Everything I did was up."

The San Diego Padres are hopeful SP Ian Kennedy will be able to regain his 2011 form, when he won 21 games and finished fourth in the National League Cy Young voting as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Pitching coach Darren Balsley has watched video of both 2011, and the current season. "I've watched a lot of video (from this season), and it had been more thigh-high this year," Balsley said Monday, Aug. 12.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have reached an agreement to trade SP Ian Kennedy to the San Diego Padres for RP Joe Thatcher, P Matt Stites and a compensatory B draft pick.
Fantasy Tip: This may reignite Kennedy's mixed-league value, assuming the deal goes through. Stites is a power arm who, according to Brock in another tweet, just had an appendectomy and will be fine. The diminutive righty has put up excellent numbers in the minors thus far and may be under the radar.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Ian Kennedy is close to being traded to the San Diego Padres. Arizona would reportedly receive RP Joe Thatcher, P Matt Stites and a third player in the deal.
Fantasy Tip: Sounds like a deal involving Kennedy is imminent. A change of scenery would be good for the right-hander, given his struggles this year, and a move to Petco Park can't hurt. He may regain some mixed-league value.
